Official Contest of Marvels II Discussion Thread

Ok, from the research I've done, I would feel comfortable to say this is the Hulk after Peter David's last run, ending with Tempus Fugit. It seems to have the type of Hulk that JH and I were thinking of. Not intelligent, but not the complete moron who'd only say "Hulk Smash." So, you can go up to issue 82. So, once all the House of M stuff starts, consider it unable to use.

I believe this is the most fair. After all, we can't use House of M, since it's an alternate world kind of thing. And, in between House of M and Planet Hulk, you only have about 4 comics, including him being shot into space.

As you guys know, I was going to end debating tomorrow; but, with Hippy still away, I want to give him a chance to get on here and debate his characters. Of course, we couldn't delay his matches a week, as each week now represents a new round in action. After this week, all brackets will only contain 4 characters. That's 32 characters left out of the initial 512. Right now, figure debates will end on Friday, that way we can have voting go through to Monday, where Round 5 should kick off.

Right, I´ve got some of my debates up at last (it´s INSANELY hard to find a net cafe over here :cmad: )

I´ll have to get the last ones up on firday (cable and morlun)

Thanks for extending debating. Murphy´s law in action I guess. The one week I go for a foreign holiday in the last two years and it´s the same week as two of my top three characters are up for debate :csad:

I´ll get it done by friday. Thank you to you all for being so understanding about this, it really is appreciated

Can I vote through procuration if I find myself in a bind this weekend?

Oh, Mr. Big Words is making me look things up. Now, I'm more confused:

1.the act of obtaining or getting; procurement. 2.the act of procuring prostitutes. 3.the appointment of a procurator, agent, or attorney. 4.the authority given. 5.a document whereby the authority is given. 6.Archaic. management for another; agency.

Well, not sure which you are really referring to; but, if it's if you can vote now through PM, that's not allowed. As JH has pointed out, you have to be able to read through all the debates before you vote. If you need me to delay voting until the end of the day, Monday, to make it easier...or, as late as Tuesday, just let me know.

I was going to suggest PMimg my votes which is a form of procurement but anyways. I will let you know and thanks for being flexible. It was really on the off chance that my GF kept me too busy.

That girlfriend will not approve of you procuring prostitutes. Beware. :woot:

Just to let you guys know, I am going out of town this weekend for a wedding I am in. I should be back sometime on Sunday. If voting is stil open I will vote when I am back. Don't hold the voting open for me though.
:xmen:

Yawn!!!!

I saw the midnight showing of Fantastic Four last night. While not as packed as the early showings of Spidey 3 or Pirates 3, it still had a respectable crowd. (Unlike last years Superman, which only had about 25 people.) I'd say 3/4 of the theater was packed. Anyway, without giving anything away, I'll say the following.

I really liked the movie. (But, won't say "loved.") I thought it outdid the first film, and it's running time of 1 1/2 hours seemed perfect, especially after having sat through so many 2 1/2 + hour movies lately.

The cast is pretty good, imo. That is, except for Jessica Alba. She just looks terrible with that blond wig, and she's really not that good of an actress. (I was listening to Howard recently, and they really summed her up well, I think. She's beautiful, for sure, but she isn't sexy. It's kind of crass to say, but when you look at Alba, you don't think she'd be that good in the sack.) Jessica Alba is one of the worst cast comic characters I've ever seen.

I was hoping that they'd do something with Doom's voice. I remembered in the first film finding that actor's voice not adequate when Doom had his entire armor on. Sadly, it's the same in this film. (Although, Doom was much more Doomish this time around.)

Silver Surfer looks awesome! He is the film. Too bad so much of the money probably went into his character. Some things just didn't come off as powerful. For example (and, I don't think I'm giving anything away), great Galactus moments in comics is seeing Galactus devour a world, the inhabitant's reactions....it brings alive how dire the situation is. With this movie, all you see is a planet be devoured, no planet reactions. I just don't think they had the money to go all out, which is a shame. It could really have blown people away a bit more if it had.

Critics are still slamming the movie for being too campy. They obviously don't get that this is what the Fantastic Four is about. Sure, in the first 20 minutes it was maybe a bit too silly at times; but, it works for this comic adaptation.

In the end, this movie's biggest flaw just seems to be Jessica Alba. She really distracts from the movie's enjoyment. When a viewer is focusing on a bad wig, that's not good. Still, I give it a solid B. I had more fun than I did with Spidey. There's definitely more action, and once that action starts, it's pretty constant.

Sounds good. I have to wait 'till Wednesday to see the flick, but that only increased my enthusiam for it. I also agree that Alba was poorly casted. There are ton of prettier and more talented actresses that could've handled the role.

Of course, she is not allowed to do the same. This is not a democracy, dammit. :oldrazz:

I feel sorry for her. My home is a Queendom. If I want a male prostitute I'm gonna get one, damnit. :o

Well, finally back from Vegas last night and justs got back from seeing FF4 so overall a busy/fun week for me. I agree with Phaedrus that it wasn't great, but it was definately enjoyable. I got exactly what I expected out of it and thought it was a fun summer popcorn film.

I'm just hoping that they make a third onethat has the Inhumans in it. I am just dying to see a badass blackbolt on the big screen.

Hmmm...who would make a good Blackbolt?

And I'm glad to hear it's a good popcorn flick. That's all I'm looking for in this movie, and why I'm going to pay matinée prices.

NOT REALLY A SPOILER, BUT MAYBE READ THIS AFTER YOU'VE SEEN THE FILM.

I have an idea of what the third one could be. I would guess we'd see Namor. I think F4 is stealing a page out of X-Men's book by having Doom be the major villian, just as we saw Magneto in all three X-Men movies. As such, think about the end of the film, and I can sort of see a link.

Honestly, I have no clue, but I did think that since you never really see him in the FF2 you could technically have Doug Jones do it again. Considering the fact that BB is basically a voiceless character that needs great body acting, he would be perfect in that role. Also, if they use the comics costume, then you wouldn't see the top half of his head making it so that people don't really recognize him from the Surfer role.

He might have to bulk up a little bit more though.

Darn it. Guy on ebay had a humongous Daredevil collection for sale, and I just couldn't pass it up. It cost me $180.00; but, I just knew I'd pay a lot more than that over the years trying to get some of those key Elektra issues.

Is there any way to know where the winners of the current matches will be fighting next round? (It just might tip my selene/sersi match for me)

Here is the list. Of course, #1 has been done this week. So, Hell's Kitchen, populated, is next.

1) Avalon - Not populated
2) Hell's Kitchen - populated
3) Hydro-Base - not populated
4) Providence - not populated
5) Stamford - (Before events in Civil War.) - populated
6) Stark Tower - not populated

Just saw FF2. Pretty good. Definitely worth the money for a daytime showing. And the crowd was really good (except for one kid sitting behind us). They reacted very well to the stuff that was happening (laughs, gasps, silence when it was needed), which made the movie even better to watch. And a good round of applause at the end.

What was funny, is people started leaving at the end, and they had to turn back to the watch as the true final scene played out.
