WOW that drawing is amazing, i love it so amazing i like the colours you sue, i've been having a go at an X3 drawing and when it comes to Phoenix she has so much Red, so i've been trying different Redish colours i like what you did with the darkish Pink/red colour and the colour of the boots nice going.

You know. I actually really liked this movie. When Cyclops meets Jean and supposedly dies. I kept thinking, “Okay, he’s coming back in the end. Jean’s going to get all too strong until Scott comes back and has to take her out himself.” But they had Wolverine do it?

Even though I hated this, I still walked out liking the movie.

I do hope they bring him back.:spidey:

Aside from X4 by COMIC CRITIC and those fanfic on fanfiction.net, I highly recommend Minisinoo's "Grail" http://www.themedicinewheel.net/grail/grail.html
This story is exactly what I think X3 should be...

Ah, yes, you know about Grail too? Fantastic! Yes indeed, Grail shows not only the true, beautiful power of the Phoenix, but also the true power that is Jean Grey. It turned what is a crazy tragedy into something that can be wonderful. Isn't it a fantastic piece of work? Certainly puts X3 to shame!!!

Reading it gave me a sense of fulfillment like I was there with the team to help save the day. One of my top 3 favorite stories so far...

yeah this is a great story....only i hate how they make cyke and angel seem bi lol. and i hate how they say cyke was a hooker lol. was he really in the comics??

Haha, but at least it's not a mutual thing. Angel might love Cyke, and Cyke might love Angel as a friend, but he's not letting him get into his pants!!

and i hate how they say cyke was a hooker lol. was he really in the comics??

I've heard variations of this, from living in multiple foster homes to having to fend for himself in the streets for a while, which would include muggings and assaults. I think Minisinoo was trying to really flesh out the dark side to help explain his insecurities and to show that he can never ever truly recover from his past, which is supposed to serve as one of the frustrations in his relationship with Jean (who was hoping that he'd be able to let go and never be bothered by that part of his life). And that because of this he was afraid that one day she might leave him, and therefore why he's convinced she wanted to die at Alkali Lake.

You gotta give the author credit though. Agree or not with some of her plot points (I definitely don't agree with the trio relationship with Warren, haha), this woman definitely did her research and made it a labor of love.

I also found out she wrote two massive prequel novels to the X-men movieverse as well. I just started reading one and so far its amazing.

So that's "Grail"? Then I read most of it a long time ago. Can't remeber why I stopped. And I can't really see Jude Law as angel...

no no, there's much more to it than that. That's like saying Jean's favorite comfort food being graham crackers is the point of a story, haha. It is a pretty mature and complex story, it's not a straight-shot action flick but dives into alot of subleties. The action does pick up though. Last 5-6 chapters everyything is happening at the same time and you feel just as exhausted as the chars.

An Accidental Interception of Fate

http://www.themedicinewheel.net/accidental/accidental.html

If you're interested in other X3 alternative novels, there's also a novel-in-progress called "Echo", by N.J. Borba.

http://www.angelfire.com/art/Kaleidoscope/ECHO.htm

This one takes the Phoenix part in a completely different (and surprising) direction than Grail or The Last Stand. It comes out a bit wierd at first, but I couldn't help but like it because it's so well written even if you don't agree with it. Just the flashback scenes and a late-night kitchen chat scene between Logan and Scott where they settle the Jean matter once and for all make it worth reading in my opinion. Looking forward to see how this one develops.

If you want something simpler, there's also:

Power Corrupts:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3039045/1/

6 chapters posted so far. This one's taking a fairly straightforward, "no nonesense" approach to redoing X3, without trying to bring in 50 chars or setting up 20 plot holes as the author says. So far he seems to be drawing heavily from the comics as to the nature of the Phoenix and doesn't forget to include the rest of the world, instead of just focusing on events at the X Mansion. This one is also notable in that Prof X is taking a very smart and proactive approach to dealing with Jean when they recover her. Instead of saying cryptic things like "you have no idea" he gives them a clearer picture of what to expect and what can be done to prevent Phoenix from going all postal and destructive on everyone. And instead of a war, Magneto seems to want to dive into politics in this story. Should be interesting how this one turns out.

after 2 months in europe, i am finally back home in the US ... n no matter what language x3 was still a big disappointment for cyke and x-men international fans .. hehe :P

ive been out of hte loop for 2 months.. last thing i remember was waiting for responses of the writers in regards to cyclops' role

^^^ Cyke93, I like your idea for an X4. that's what I call quite a cleanup operation

Greetings. I found discussion of Grail via my site counter.

Perhaps I can answer a few questions about the novel.

I've been writing X-Men fiction a while, and have, in fact, two different backgrounds for Scott in my various novels and other stories on my site, The Medicine Wheel. One of these conforms (more or less) to the original novelization of X1, with a lot of fleshing out. The background novel for that is An Accidental Interception of Fate, and other novels that employ that background involve Climb the Wind (a retelling of Homer's Iliad and NOT for the faint of heart), and the Heyoka series, plus most of the short fiction. Climb the Wind and Accidental both won several awards (back when there were X-Men awards.) In this version, Scott's pretty normal and his parents are living still (as per the novelization, which never suggested he was an orphan).

Grail belongs to a different background which comes much closer to his comicverse history. The prequel novel for that is Special: the genesis of Cyclops. Again, as with Climb the Wind, that novel deals with real issues and I don't pretty it up any. Basically, I take a look at what it would really have meant for Scott to have been on his own on the street as a child, sans the constraints of comic code. ;) Special won a couple awards too, and got a very nice review from Eric Burns on Websnark, found HERE.

Remember to pay attention to any warnings on my novels. I don't rate my fanfiction because I don't rate my published fiction (find it all a bit silly), but these novels are written for an adult audience.

All the novels are available HERE, Serials are available HERE, including How the Leopard Changed Her Spots which is a PowerSwap retelling of X1, and if you're not into novels, the short fiction is all HERE.

If anyone has questions, I'll be happy to try to answer them. I did write replies to several questions that came up from readers in 3 different LJ posts titled The Secrets Behind Grail: post #1, post #2, and post #3. Last the authorial endnotes are available HERE. Please beware as all these posts contain major SPOILERS for the novel.

If you've wondered about my reasoning behind making Scott's background what I did, it's addressed in post #2 above, and any questions about my rationale for the Trio is also found in post #2.

Very briefly, part of my explanation for taking on Grail in my endnotes includes the following:

In Grail, I was able to do the Phoenix Saga as I'd want to tell it. Phoenix is Jean, plain and simple, not a demi-goddess clone of Jean, an alternate personality, or anything else. And the 'Dark Phoenix' is the part inside all of us that must negotiate the boundaries between right and wrong. As Kurt told Warren near the story's beginning, one interpretation of the Garden of Eden story tells that Adam and Eve 'fell' not because they wanted to be bad, but because they wanted to be good. I find that far more interesting. (Wildly cackling evil geniuses have just never done it for me.) Jean's struggle in Grail is the same one faced by any person in a position of power who takes that responsibility seriously. Where are the lines in the sand? And how much harder to judge when the power is so great.

Cheers!

Good to have you back! :)

Penn answered some questions at the x-verse, you should check it out... Kinsberg didn't show up (but readying all the angry fans there I can see why :p) other then that nothing is new (as you can see for yourself...) but a lot of users disappeared :(

More great artwork, Vilya!

Civil War looks like an interesting story...from what I've heard about it anyway.

Who's the girl with a gun in her hand? And why in each X-Men storyline the characters wear diffrent uniforms? I don't like Cyclops covering all up...

The girl with the gun is Domino.:) I don't know the real reason why they keep changing the X-costumes, maybe because different writers want to have them a new look.

That's hot... I haven't seen it in stores. I would probably consider picking it up if I did!

Urania, my guess is that they change uniforms all the time for a variety of reasons: 1) to keep their looks "updated", 2) to sell more merchandise, and 3) usually just to denote a different major time period.

Cyclops chooses the new bright-tights uniforms in Astonishing over the New X-Men leather ones because he thought that people found the black leather imposing, so that's HIS explanation. :)

great cover, just wish emma wasnt front and center, i really cant stand her
