I finished the audio commentary with Brett Ratner, Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. There's only one more mention of Cyclops in the film, and it comes at the end when we pan across the gravestones...

Zak: "You know, some people, some of the fans online feel like we should've given Scott more of a tribute... "
Simon: "Well, they're Scott fans."
Zak: "Right. They're Scott fans."

And that's it. They immediate segue from that into how pissed they are about Beast going to the UN instead of staying at the school, while Ratner tries to defend it.

There is one other hilarious moment in the commentary, though, where they mention how one thing they disagreed with the fans on was how much they loved Halle Berry's portrayal of Storm, so they said they increased her role because of how much they liked her. It's amusing that they acknowledge for the whole world to hear that most people didn't like Halle in these movies. Plus, um, I thought her role was increased because she demanded it? Maybe they're just trying to be diplomatic, whatever.
It's funny, but having watched the film with their commentary on THERE is NEVER a TIME when they acknowledge that Halle isn't welll liked in these films. NEVER. They say they love her performance and upped her role, but they NEVER say she isn't well liked by fans/audience.

If I remember correctly, it's right around the point where Logan takes off to find Jean. One of them tosses out an offhand comment about how this is one instance where they went against online opinion. Either that or its around the funeral.

Wherever it is, I just heard it yesterday. It's when they start talking about how hard it is to service so many characters, and they mention in particular that they felt Storm was underutilized. They loved Halle's performance, loved Storm and wanted to do more with Storm in this movie - which is where they say they were going against the grain.

Nope. They never say anything about going against online opinion with Storm.

Edit: I've just watched the spots you mentioned to see what is said. They say NOTHING about Halle during the funeral.

Then in Wolverine leaving to go to find Jean. They say ''I really like Halle in this scene. She's strong and focused. She's really pretty too." ''She's pretty in every scene."

Oh? I thought we're all Scott fans, consider how they said they're such huge Cyclops fans on the x-verse and all

Good thing it was an audio commentary otherwise we wouldn't be able to see them roll their eyes at the mention of "Scott fans".

I would of enjoyed seeing them BS their way around the Phoenix feminine power crap they where talking about. :)

They talk like they're playing a two-men comic show...
I'm sure they are Wolverine and Storm fans and I'm okay with it coz thinking them as Cyclops fans will be a great insult to all of us and Scott.

best part of the commentary was when they tried to explain rogue's small role- brett said we wanted to focus on the women especially with phoenix running around. maybe anna was the only one he wasn't sexually attracted to.

they were just idiots in that commentary

Um...wasn't Anna away from the shoot for a while filming another movie? Perhaps had she had not gone to New York to make that other movie she may have been used more in the film?

then why didn't explain that in the commentary, instead of saying they wanted to focus more on the women of the film, like Phoenix? I know this is what happened, but the problem of Rogue isn't only screentime: it's how her screentime is used. Her dialogue is pathetic and her dillemma is reduced to "i'm a selfish little girl who want to have sex with my boy and, if I don't take that thing, he'll stick with the pass-through-walls girl" when it should be something way deeper.

Oh and Margaret, her film, was written for her, it's her first movie as a protagonist. I wouldn't waste that chance in order to play Rogue in her lamest arc of the trilogy too.

Or things that are assumed to be common knowledge really.

I'm sorry, I just tend to get a Gina alert alot..I've been the best of friends with her, and the worst of enemies with her and learned my lesson.
Ahh, the days of Gina and everyone flocking to the Xverse...Good times...

Gina!!
The name that should not be spoken!!

:p
She came back not too long ago under a different name. :wow:

:D

Seems like anyone who was offered other choice being in other film chose to settle for the minimal screen time of their roles in X3 willingly.

That line really confused me... I think he was doubling back and saying "Well actually Anna WAS being focused on!"

Anyway, he eventually spat out the fact that Anna was in another movie and was busy at the time. Funny, they didn't kill HER off...

I think she meant a lot of the actors gave up on a significant role in TLS in favor of bigger roles elswhere. (Anna, James...)

I'm still sure good writers could have done them justice nevertheless.

If you remember, Anna was one of the last cast members to sign on for X3. Fox finally got her to do it by offering her the chance to do "Margaret".

They may not have literally killed off Rogue, but they did figuratively kill the character with a horrible storyline. :whatever:

Thanks for translating for me, I posted it when I was only semi-conscious.:yay:

indeed. She may not be dead, but it is as hard to bring Cyclops back as bringing Rogue back. Cyke was never shown dead, Rogue can be uncured since it didn't work in Magneto. But both storylines could have been WAY better if we had good screenwriters.

I mean, Anna went there, outside, one day, just to film her getting out of a bus? WTF! They could have introduced some action into it. Her lines are always poor, she sounds like a selfish whiney *****. James was there for a whole day, and he films two scenes that, summing up, take about 40 seconds. WTF! They could use the actors more if they wanted, the "they were making another film" excuse is the poorest. Good writing is what these two characters needed.

In a way, they did kill her off, by giving her the cure, lol. :csad:
