At this point, I'm just going to go into this with the same expectations I had for Pirates 4. A fun summer blockbuster. Those expectations made me enjoy Pirates 4, and it applies perfectly to this. This movie (and the first one) seems to have a problem of people going in to it with the wrong expectations. At least the average movie goer response from early screenings is more positive.

I think the majority of people have the appropriate expectations. nearly 40 million people will see this, granted a lot of them repeat viewings.

It's mostly the reviews for TF that have always been disproportional. This is why films like Piranha 3D, and even Fast Five with it's action over plot and caricatures overs character get great reviews. Some films are considered successes at that why are trying to be, whilst others are considered failures at what people/critics say they should be.

It's all very fickle and at the end of the day it taints viewership. The first time I seen batman 89, it was just me and nothing else. In today's world of facebook walls and critical scores at a touch of a button, It's hard to even trust your own opinion.

Don't go in with low or high expectations, Just hope to get your 12 or 15 dollars worth of "entertainment" whatever that may be according to your standards. I think that's what bay and everyone intends to provide.

This sums up my problems with Bay's TF franchise quite nicely...

There is a difference between an entertaining swashbuckling adventure in the style of Treasure Island and a sick, disgusting noise-fest filled with toilet humor that is apparently intended for children

Trasnformers 2 was NOT entertainment in any way, shape or form
I love how people b*tch about Green Lantern but LOL! TRANSFORMERS IS SO AWESOME!

i hated john tuturro in TF1... that crap was the highlight of my negatives for that movies...

theres 4 now!?1:o

John Turturro has always been one of my favorites but they damn near ruined his credibility in these films. Not looking forward to what they do with Malkovich and McDormand.

Aside from that , I can't wait to see this

So I'm guessing that other than Optimus, Sentinel, and Megatron; none of the other Transformers have a lot of lines as usual.
Pretty much, though save for Wheelie and Brains I suppose.

Autobots disappear for chunks for film and do very little. Optimus is a ***** and a pushover in this movie.

Big, dumb, and surprisingly fun. 3.5/5... Maybe even a 4. :yay:

There was so much happening in Dark of the Moon, it's hard to know where to start. The toilet humour was practically gone. Skidmark and Flaps were (as promised) nowhere on screen. The little leg humping turd from the second movie was back, but quite shockingly wasn't an irritating sledgehammer target. He and his diminutive partner actually provided some entertainment value! :wow:

It checks all the boxes for a Bay film.
  • Slow-mo action shots.
  • Long tracking shot up the legs of a slender woman.
  • BOOM!
  • A slender woman running in high heels.
  • BOOM!

There were many nods to the first film. My personal favourite was a reprise of Arrival to Earth, played in a slow, sad rendition for that scene in the trailer where Sam and the Autobots were saying their goodbyes.

Optimus Prime's trailer...
An interesting revision. It houses additional weapons and and equipment for Prime, kind of like a cross between a Swiss Army knife and an armoury.

The Autobot ranks were a bit of a surprise. I thought there would be more of them, but the numbers were down from the abysmal second movie. Now that there's a red one (who had some pretty cool action) I wish that Sideswipe had been given a new paint job. It's good to see that the Autobots were mortal as well, unlike the usual unstoppable heroes of these kinds of movies, tearing through enemies like butter. Even well established characters were fair game... :cwink:

The Decepticons curiously didn't have much screen time for character development though. This is one of Dark of the Moon's biggest problems - The villains of the past don't really shine, they hatch a master plan and then unleash merry Hell, without the ongoing scheming or character interactions that make great villains memorable. In between the backstabbing of the powerhouse villains there was a disgruntled lackey further splitting villainous side of the plot.

The 3D was pretty tight. This was the best quality I've seen since TRON: Legacy, so it was pleasing to find myself immersed in the story instead of spotting badly broken visuals in every shot.

Overall, I enjoyed Dark of the Moon. Compared to Transformers (2007) I think it's fair to say that each one has strengths that the other lacks and they generally match each other when all things are considered. Thumbs up. :yay:

 yup that quote is fitting....i'm going to see it tomorrow with my god child..i expect it to be improved in a lot of areas, but in others...i think m.bay never really got it, but that's fine....if they do others, hoping that director gets it....

good, and honest review....

I was hoping there would be some of the Spielberg-ian charm left over from the first one. Guess not. :(

considering no one can outline the difference by way of exmaple, I think puts this wonderful observation firmly in the subjective bs category.

good to see you two again.
I loved John Turturro in the Zohan, classic.

thanks for the review.

Im starting to suspect pielbergs name doesnt carry any charm anymore. Most of the stuff he attaches his name too just isnt that great. Super 8 was good but thats because JJ knew how to execute the story and get that spielberg vibe. Falling skies is a boring mess and transformers 2 and 3 arent no where near as majical as the first was and dont get me started on the last indiana jones. I hope the lincoln movie is a return to form for spielberg.

Why hello, -- good to see you still defending that poor, misunderstood auteur Michael Bay. I hope he doesn't punish you too severely for your loyalty this time around with more numbing, overly-drawn-out set pieces and eyeball-rolling attempts at comedy relief.

And to think - all that Bay had to do to dupe me into the theater again this time was to stick Grimlock in there somewhere. One simple thing.
He's gonna miss that extra $15 he would have gotten from me, I tells ya! :cwink:

noooooo please no, seeing how Bay handled much of these TF characters and how he destoryed starscream....i dont want him to misused anymore characters like he has..leave it possibly to a director that gets it, i just wanna be good with the action and the special effects and slowly walk away from anything else on this movie, til a possible TF4...

we'll see.
it is however good to see you back leading the group think hive mind charge once more. I hope you yourself aren't also punished by the aforementioned listed you provided, for it seems to bothers you more than it does me.

You wouldn't like Bays take on Grimlock, if it was anything like the G1, he would be slow, dumb and stupid...you'd probably end up calling him racist by the time all was said and done.
Funny how that works.:whatever:

Roger Ebert has a stick up his ass with Bay films . Big surprise a Michael Bay film hated my the elitists . I stand by opinion he makes good popcorn films and I like Armageddon damn it

he's liked a couple

Ebert likes smart movies, and for the most part I agree with him. Though I have this attachment to my childhood I am unwilling to let go of.

If i was ten or fifteen years younger I would be dying every time a transformers commercial came on. This **** is irresistible to kids.

Listening to ebert's review is like taking your grandpa to a rock concert.

who goes or judges any movie off of what R.Ebert has to say??? Or any critic has to say. I'm sure there are critic who are usually correct or even in the right range (for lack of a better term) about films they like or dont like. You're going to see it, like it or not like it despite their opinions..

and i can see it happening again...apparently if you end up not liking the film that means you don't like m.bay:doh:. So untrue with some people's opinions.

exactly!!!!!!!

Ever since Ebert's ridiculously awful review of I Am Legend, I refuse to read anything that he writes.

I want to disagree with Ebert because he insulted superhero movies in his First Class review by saying guys like Micheal Fassbender had no business being in it considering he's an ACTOR when in fact he must have enjoyed the role being an entertainer and everything apart from just a stuffy ACTOR.

On the other hand he gave it a fair 2.5 out of 4 which is plenty considering how harsh he normally is. It's like he hates himself for liking it. But here I agree with him here. The Transformers movies are just ugly in every way and 100 times worse than Bay's other movies which are just simple action movies.

I must see Transformers 3 though. I liked Van Helsing so I'm not hard to please.

And Marvin's hopes and dreams of a 70% tomatometer for Transformers 3 are crushed.

After he gave X3 a positive and FC a negative, he lost me, though his physical condition does make it hard to hate the man.

Name calling people that don't agree with his tastes is kinda lame. calling a bay movie "visually ugly" just seems like a cry for attention.
And before anyone says the robots look ugly, that's another matter.
(aliens aren't supposed to be pretty, even Speilberg knows that.)

um
I was referring to the audience score:word:

sadly you're correct though, my estimated guess was misguided based on early reports.
