Dark of the Moon OFFICIAL Dark of the Moon REVIEW THREAD

I hate how the robots look in all the movies so whatever. Ebert didn't care for how they looked in the second movie either and he said as such. It's just one man's opinion at the end of the day. We like what we like and dislike what we dislike. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I find Ebert's picks that he does end up liking a bit odd but whatever.

there are a number of reviews I've read that haven't shown up on the RT charts though.
Are they waiting till after the weekend or something.

we'll see.
it is however good to see you back leading the group think hive mind charge once more. I hope you yourself aren't also punished by the aforementioned listed you provided, for it seems to bothers you more than it does me.

You wouldn't like Bays take on Grimlock, if it was anything like the G1, he would be slow, dumb and stupid...you'd probably end up calling him racist by the time all was said and done.
Funny how that works.:whatever:

LOL -- Still taking yourself WAY too seriously, I see. The key to being a good Bay defender is being jolly and self-deprecating, don't you know?

I didn't know I was "leading the hive mind charge", I must have missed the memo where they made me their leader. Resistance is futile! :woot:

But you're probably right about Grimlock. The Bay version would have no doubt been used as fodder for numerous dinosaur fart-and-poop jokes, so it's just as well Grimmy was spared any further indignities.

Ebert gave the first one a three, the second a one, and this one is more or less him splitting the difference.

I've been working on that.

And yes Grimmy would just add fuel to the fire believe me.
Anyone calling the film material stupid would have a hate orgasm the minute dino bots showed up.

No it's not. He gave this one a 1 star review as well.

Also Bay couldn't even get Wheeljack right. Now he's called Que (though credited as Que/Wheeljack) for some reason with some ridiculous Einstein haircut (yup Autobots have hair now), and some indeterminable accent, and absolutely no fighting ability at all.

And sometimes it doesn't even look like the Autobots are even speaking yet you sort of hear words coming up over the soundtrack and the dialogue just doesn't seem to match the story.

This is disappointing. Why can't people enjoy this franchise for what it is. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

The irony is the stuff in these movies that people hate are the stuff that's purposely in there, unlike other movies that fail based on an inexperienced writer/director/producer but are forgiven.

Give me a break.

my math may be off but that would be two.
he'd give one of these a zero if he could...can he?

The ****** stuff that is in there purposefully being in there purposefully makes it worse. That is why I cannot accept it.

Legal issues cause a couple of the bots to be renamed. It's been discussed.

How is hair anymore inappropriate than robots with eyes and noses and..teeth in some cases? Then again G1 fans do tend to self hate often.

I just hope this movie won't have vomit-inducing things like goldtooth hillbilly Autobot and giant balls dangling from a giant Transformer. Yes, I'm talking about you, ROTF.

That's my point. But you can accept and forgive someone who makes a crappy movie because "the potential is there, they just didn't go all the way with it" or "maybe the editing will be better next time......" or "I can look past this movie's flaws based on everything else I liked".

I'm not saying you've ever said that, but most people have and it's hypocritical. People will accept far lesser movies than Transformers but use the flaws of those films against Transformers to lower its quality. Not fare, and I always point it out to people in conversation.

Hasbro just released a new Wheeljack toy. Wheeljack just appeared on Transformers: Prime. He's CREDITED as Que/Wheeljack in the movie even though he's only referred to as Que in one instance. So what is the legal issue of Wheeljack?

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about and I don't do what you are saying. Are you talking about that God awful Last Airbender movie or X-Men 2? What?

I'm not the worlds biggest Bay fan (in fact, i despise most of his movies outside of the Rock (for some reason..) and the first Transformers) I absolutely loathed the second one... but I'm one of the few that hated the second that's strangely looking forward to this one.

I'm such a Transformers geek that I'd pay to listen to Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen version) give a speech on... whatever.

I'm not going into TF3 with extremely high hopes, but Capone's early (non 3D screening) from a few months back gives me SOME hope....

I think I'm going to leave TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON for a while, at least until I can see it again in 3D (maybe IMAX to boot, just to really blow out my eyes and mind). So, there may be a follow-up review come July 1 or thereabouts. But, I have to admit, I'm genuinely surprised what a strong effort this film is, not just in terms of its scope, but also in its pacing, performances, and ideas. This one dares to go dark from time to time, and that helped me find the often-lacking component of many Bay films: emotion. You probably won't shed any tears watching DARK OF THE MOON, but you will care when certain lives are lost or in peril. This one might actually rock you a little to your foundation; get excited about that. The summer keeps getting incrementally better from where I'm sitting.

I don't have the link to it, but I put that much in another forum I visit because I didn't want to link a spoiler filled review.

Sounds like he's talking about Green Lantern. Many said "It's a flawed movie but it can be better next time around" and whatnot.

The screening I was in last night was a really good mix of kids to adults well into there 60's and everyone clapped and cheered at the right moments and clapped at the end so take that for what its worth. Face it we've yet to have a big time summer movie this year that is just pure action entertainment. This movie wont win any academy awards in next feb but it sure as heck will rake in the case. Michael bay does his thing and he knows how to cater to the mass audience who will plunk down there hard earned money every 2 years to see his movie.

Either you only see the world through your own lens or you really dont get the point to certain things that are said here. Nobody is implying that robots shouldnt have hair, or evil robots shouldnt be ugly.

they are stating the designs and construction of these robots were not done well, and why give these robots unnecessary characteristics.. I mean it's not a big deal really, and it's the directors take on the material and that's fine. But really, why do it, and why do you seem to not understand some peoples issues?

I saw the movie last night and I think what Capone says here is on the money. There were some places the movie went that I didn't expect to go and it surprised the hell out of me. I think it earns the Dark of the Moon title.

non spoiler part of the TFW2005 review (fanboys)

I had the opportunity to attend an advance screening of Transformers Dark of the Moon last night in Toronto thanks to the fine folks at Paramount. While I will keep the front page here spoiler free I do want everyone to know it is so much better than Revenge of the Fallen and worth seeing in 3D. I came out of ROTF disappointed with so many aspects of that film, to the degree that it gave me a long lasting disinterest in Transformers collecting after 10 years. DOTM made me care about the Movieverse again. It was a solid movie. Not because it was about Transformers, but because it was well done. Read on for a quick review by clicking the title bar.

The first Transformers movie left a feeling of awe for many of us in seeing our childhood brought to life in the live action movie environment. The sequel disappointed alot of people including myself. This third film in the trilogy does a great job of finishing the story in a way that left me satisfied.

One of the things that jumped out at me while I was watching Dark of the Moon was the contrasts in some of the aspects of this film and Revenge of the Fallen. Take Sam's new love interest Carly for example. Her personality is so much more positive than Mikaela was, and I thought it helped reflect a change in the direction of this movie. (It doesn't hurt that she is better looking, sorry Brad) The new human characters had excellent character development, and the inclusion of Buzz Aldrin, JFK and Nixon into the film was a nice touch. Patrick Dempsey's character was a good plot twist; come on, you know no one is that nice unless they want something from you. Sam's parents once again had some well delivered one liners that will make you laugh out loud. John Malkovich's character steals the scene in his introduction. Former Agent Seymour Simmons's charcter wasn't as annoying this time around, and Frances McDormand was believable as the Secretary of Defence. Alan Tudyk was great, he delivered some great scenes. Shia LaBeouf once again did a good job keeping us involved in the story.

Leonard Nimoy was a great casting voice for Sentinel Prime. His distinctive voice returning to the Transformers franchise after 25 years was great timing and felt right.

If you want to remain spoiler free stop reading now.

The Rest Here

wow, it's almost exactly what "the vile one said" except without the pre-disposed vile lol.
go figure

I have NO idea what Wheeljack looks like in the movie... but... Why doesn't he look like this?

Wheeljack_Movie_style_by_convoy81.jpg

Also... Why was it hard to get the name "Wheeljack"?

Because Michael Bay likes weird dorky stuff.

So the TFW2005 fanboy loved the movie great. Hardly call the human character development great in that movie. Especially Whitely failing at looking pensive and realizing something.

Didn't say he wasn't entitled to HIS OPINOIN, I said at what point is this just some person stating something he doesn't like. He seed to think that it made no sense for a ROBOT to have such a thing and I objectively deconstructed his point by way of consistency. Why now? Why is it ok for Robot aliens to have a bunch of needless human parts but once hair design is introduced it makes no sense?

why give them unnecessary characteristics indeed.

Secondly, the design construction is amazing...but that's my opinion
funny how that works.

Seriously... the Einstein like hair, even not seeing it... Kind of bugs me. Maybe Shockwave can have a mohawk if we ever see him again?

Yes but you are begrudging people like they should like the design because THAT'S HOW ALIENS SHOULD LOOK! THEY SHOULD LOOK WEIRD AND VISUALLY UGLY! Whatever. Like we are supposed to agree with you.
