Official JLA discussion thread - Part 1

I do have to agree with this. The new Justice League isn't bad, but the Morrison/Porter JLA #1 is "big idea" comics done right.
Eh, I was never that impressed with JLA #1 myself. That whole first arc didn't really meet my expectations.

#2 will decide for me if the DCnU is worth it or not. I know that's maybe going overboard, but if they have Bats own/humiliate/outsmart/outanything Superman, then I'll say the hell with it.

Since I very very highly doubt this Batman has Kryptonite on him, I highly doubt Batman will beat Superman in any way, except for maybe stealth (depending on how they use the X-Ray vision, if this Superman even has that power.)

And if he does, then it would be complete bullcrap, because there is no plausible way Batman could figure that out. Even if he had the Kryptonite, there is absolutely no way he could have known it would work against Superman.

Morrison's whole run didn't meet my expectations. I only read it a few years ago, so people's constant praise may have gotten my expectation a wee bit too high, but still.

I liked some of the ideas Morrison had, like the JLA taking on some of the more abstract threats that can't just be punched into submission. But he used and/or created a lot of characters that I don't feel were really worthy of the League. Huntress and Connor Hawke? I love those characters, but I don't think they should be anywhere near the League. I never took to Zauriel, and Tomorrow Woman (who some people absolutely love) just felt like an issue filler with minimal effect on any of the characters.

I'm betting Batman will get a jab or two in, but ultimately it'll be obvious Superman could easily win if he wanted to. That's how all the half-logical Superman/Batman fights pan out.

I will say, I love Batman's suit.

I wanted the oval to stay. :(

It would be awesome if Batman got a jab or two in and broke his hand on Superman's face. :)

I didn't mean actual jab.

And no it wouldn't, because Batman's not that stupid.

The Ila story takes place 5 years in the past so maybe Bruce will berocking the oval whn DC, Batman, or b&r start? I'd have to look at the covers again to be sure.

He's not. His costume apparently doesn't change in those 5 years.

This is the first time they're meeting. Or do you actually think this allegedly fresh, new take on Batman should just be another round of "Batman knows everything about everyone all the time because he's the Bat-God of Prep Time and all must bow before him, nyah nyah nyah"?

He did specifically say he'd researched him and that he was very dangerous. Hopefully "face punch" is Level 1 of his investigation.

Hal on the other hand.

:hal: :hal: :hal:

Well, to be fair, he did just see him knock the f**k outta Green Lantern. :o

Batman could prevent Jesus from walking on water. He'd know what Jesus was up to and freeze the water ahead of time.

Yeah we're not playing that f**king game again. :o

But then he'd still be walking on it. Batman would turn it into vapor.

"Batman! We'll all die of thirst now!"
"Looks like I turned that water into whine."
*Batman puts on sunglasses*

How could I forget? I'm sure Batman keeps the mini water vaporizer in his utility belt.:o

I know, its not always continuity, but I'm sorry, Batman should outsmart Superman.

I know Superman's powers should logically make him infinitely smarter than a normal human, etc...but brains is Batman's thing. IMO, it should be the one thing he can do better than anyone. Even if it's a bit unrealistic.
This is how it will more than likely play out with Batman staying alive long enough to get through to Superman. Johns set it up in the first issue where this not only an origin story but Batman also proving to the rest of them why he belongs in the League. So either he is going to outsmart Superman or be the one who defeats Darkseid. However if he is the one to beat Darkseid I will be pissed that is a job for Superman there. I mean while I get why Johns wants to prove why Batman belongs in a League full of Gods he also needs to showcase why all the heroes look up to Superman and draw their inspiration from.

Superman will be treated as if he was dumb, again

What I am wondering though if they are going to with this Superman/Wonder Woman thing as rumored when will we see this play out and are they really going to move forward with that since they wanted this Superman to be somewhat of a loner.
