Still, if I need a planet destroyed he's the first one I'm calling.

Ugh....it was a bad idea to make him do it twice. IT was DC admitting that blowing up planets was the only interesting thing about comic john

I only liked Stewart on the GL cartoon. Comic book John is generic token black guy, which is a shame.

It was the cartoon that I first "met the character". The crap they did between Hawkgirl and him was the first strike because I'm a huge fan of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Plus then I felt that they put him in just to have a black guy, and generally didn't care for his attitude. I'd say I tolerate him more in the books, but...yea the Hawkgirl stuff really hit me deep. Even though it is fiction of fiction because the Timmverse isn't accurate to comics it still pisses me off. Even though Hawkgirl wasn't the real Hawkgirl too.

I'm liking it, just when you compare it to the rest of the titles of the relaunch, JL falls under my category of "Good read" and not "Loved it". For its purpose in being what they want it to be, is where it falls flat.
Not exactly, the relaunching titles weren't perfect, i must say that JL was one of my favourite titles in the relaunch, but it's probably because of the characters :awesome:

He murdered Mogo! :csad:

Basically, this is Geoff's attempt at being Brian Michael Bendis

That makes me less optimistic ad its one writer i don't like trying to be like another writer I dont like

Still I'm going to give this series a couple more issues to impress me

Well... isn't it? Dude wasn't really known for much other than blowing up planets and becoming a Guardian that one time--which would actually be bad now, given that the Guardians are all asshats under Johns' pen. Hell, they even stole the Marine background from the cartoon to spice him up a bit. I'm just waiting for them to shave his head and give him a goatee now.

To be honest, I pretty much liked everything they did regarding John and Hawkgirl. IMO, they were made more interesting because of it. Yeah, John was there for diversity, but the way his character became more human after season 1 impressed me.

I would just enjoy the ride...and Jim Lee's Wonder Woman, lol. I gave up on Jim Lee drawing an amazing story a while ago.

It is true that that's what he's best for, its just a waste really. I wish they'd just kill him or give him a complete personality transplant.

It seems like no one's really all that interested in writing him, more than anything else. His Justice League stories don't really work in the comic universe, and no one's really all that interested in whatever the comic counterpart had going for him.

He probably could be made interesting if a decent enough writer wanted to try and give him a good story arc

...

Maybe

I am definitely enjoying Jim Lee's Wonder Woman

If you know what I mean :ninja:

Pretty disappointed with the first issue... I feel I've seen this before so many times. Johns really put no effort into the story.

I think Johns should have gone back and read something like X-Men #1 that *shock* Jim Lee did to put together a great first issue. Not very optimistic, and it just feels like All Star batman and Robin all over again.

I'm going to stick with it until the first arc is over and see if it wins me over probably

Atleast it looks like majority of the team will be together by the 3rd issue since going by the solicits, Darkseid is already coming around in #4.

pretty much. they should just kill him off really, lol.

Black Lantern Mogo should om nom nom him :ninja:

I am interested to see how Darkseid and the other New Gods look now

Bunch of JLA issues are $1 apiece on Comixology. Not looking to get the entire run, but as I've never read any of Morrison's JLA, any particular arcs or single issues you guys recommend the most?

Almost the entire series is great. But I think my personal favorite arc was "World War III," #34-41.

Thanks, I suppose it's probably a good idea to just start from the beginning, but I have been reading great things about that WWIII arc.

I'm partial to a Rock of Ages too. Connor Hawke & Ray Palmer vs Darkseid was always good.

I've read all of Morrisons JLA and then I've read some of the later volume stories of JLA that come before IC. Personally I like the JLA after Morrison left more. If you don't tend to like Morrison, think of why you might not. Then judge the idea of reading his JLA run. If you like Morrison, then read his JLA run.

I wish people told me that before. I was kinda underwhelmed. I thought that because it was an "earlier" Morrison it was a bit more tame perhaps. And I was dead wrong. Too much over the top crap for my tastes most of the time. Plus he created BatGod. And I will never forgive him for that. **** that noise.

But if you can't go over the top with the friggin' Justice League, then who can you go over the top with? The JLA is the team that pretty much begs for over-the-top threats--especially Morrison's team, which featured all of the super-powerful heavy-hitters.

But it's Morrison's type of over the topness. His is a level above that. :/

It delves into the cosmic in ways I don't like. Like Zero Hour did (though different writer). I don't care if stuff has cosmic elements thrown in, but not to where I'm confused while reading it. Or time-travel stuff that gets so convoluted.

Which is why it's awesome! But there are some stories from that same JLA series by Waid, Millar, and Kelly that might be more your speed if Morrison's too high-concept. Kelly took a pretty character-focused approach while still maintaining some great, huge threats worthy of the League's attention.

Yea. Every Kelly JLA I've read I enjoyed. I'm in the process of getting that era of JLA and Johns early JSA stuff in trade at the moment. I flipped through the pages of JSA: Princes of Darkness real fast and the second I saw Mordru and Eclipso at least, I had a geekasm and bought it.
