Official Legion of Super-Heroes Thread

Yeah, I just read past that part. That scene between him and Saturn Girl where he tries to put his hand on hers but she gets called away was kind of heartbreaking. :(

Reading this really makes me wish I could find a goddamn copy of the new Legion comic. But no, the comic shop in Miami had to be sold out and now the one here in Gainesville is, too. Son of a b****.

Here's an article that I hadn't noticed before. Some character sketches I hadn't seen yet either.

I FINALLY found a copy! Wow, it was really good. I like how Waid recast the Legion as political ideologists viewed as one step shy of terrorists as opposed to the adored heroes. After reading it, I rescind my comment about Element Lad too. Consciously retro makes perfect sense in the context. I'm curious about how Brainy will be. Given the cover, it looks like he might be taking a more grim and less upbeat personality shift, which would kind of suck for me. I liked Brainy a lot as he was.

Colossal Boy/Micro Lad was hilarious. :D

I guess I might be one of the few who wasn't that blown away by this first issue. I'm still uncomfortable with the Legion's "rebel" approach, but we still have a lot to see on how this universe is run; they just might be the voice of freedom in a police state. I'll also miss the use of their made up curses (nass, sprock, etc.) and other particular words that had stuck through all the incarnations. "Eat it, grandpa" as a battle cry? Err, okay; I guess its appeal is lost on older readers. I'm a bit confused at some of the measures that have been taken against the Legion kids: gracity bulldozers and armed warfare? It clashes with the "boring, pacifistic" society they're supposed to live in.

It's still good though. The art and story don't disappoint. The Star Boy and Micro Lad bits were funny. Most of the classic (and fan favorite) characters are there. I just hope we get something good comes out of this Lallor mess. The champions of Lallor were another Legion-like group that I liked seeing and would like to see represented again. Maybe in the next issue? For the moment, with issue #1 I can still say one of the old battle cries: Long Live the Legion. :D

Well, they did say it was the first Legion battle-cry. Maybe they'll work their way up to "Long live the Legion." :)

Great issue out today. Very interesting take on a society of precogs. And Braniac seems to be an interesting character.

And it's a lot of fun to see how the Legionairres are still teens through the pranks they play on each other.

Even considering that this comic is longer than the standard comic, I wish it was longer still because there is just so much going on in it that I crave more as soon as I'm done.

Brainiac and Dream Girl were excellent in this issue. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Brainy now. He's just snarky enough to be hilarious. :)

Awesome issue.
Loved the dialogue between Brainiac and Dream Girl...
The whole deal with DG's people making the kids unable to dream was cool, and the whole thing about the coming war is lookin' mighty interesting.
Did anyone who's read any previous LoS series recognize the face in Dream Girl's vision of the war?

Also, I wonder when they'll re-introduce some of the old Legion villains?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to a bona-fide supervillain in the book, especially someone like the Composite Man or Mordru, but I think Waid's gonna focus on the political angle at first.

True, the way it's shaping up, it does looks like the whole political angle will be the focal point for the first arc or two.
Still, that doesn't mean we won't see a bona-fide supervillain.

One day... one day...

Besides, they live in the future of a universe that's been populated by super-powered characters from the beginning of time. At least ONE of them had to have gone bad in their time period. Speaking of the beginning of time, it'd be cool to see Vandal Savage or Darkseid show up.

Vandal Savage would be cool. :)
Far as I know it's been a while since he's been in a book, so he could use some time in the lime light. Plus, I'm interested to see how Kitson would update his look for the future.

I just have a question about this series how big of a part does Superboy of TT play in this? Is this taking place after he went back to his own time or before?

He's not in it at all; not even mentioned.
As for the when, my guess'd be after the crossover.

Just to be picky, CLASSIFIED AS LAME: Dream Girl's costume, Brainiac's attitude(Batman Jr?), Karate Kid's outfit, the idea that they call each other by hero name rather than Bill or George (I do realize it is probably to help the reader ID the hero) and the fact they had Star Boy (also a lame name) on the cover but nowhere does he appear in the book. Also, let's get Cosmic Boy out there doing some Magneto s**t.

Does anyone know if Mon-el is scheduled to appear? Where is Lightning Lad?

Mon-el better be in there back in the old days right after Superboy he was the best one. I still remember how Superboy(pre-crisis) kicked his butt in one issue :) ah the good ol' days

Sounds like you don't like the Legion. If I remember correctly, this is pretty close to what the Legion was back in the day.

Mon-El hasn't shown up, and I don't think the new series even factors the Titans/Legion crossover into things. It's a total reimagining of the Legion concept.

Actually, I did admit I was being picky. I like their rebellious attitude and I am a huge fan of Element Lad, Ultra Boy and Lightning Lad. I like this representation of Elemental(?) Lad (is that the name?) How many of you remember Lightning Lad had a robot arm for awhile? Element lad's candy cane-colored costume? Polar Boy (DC's version of Iceman). Damn, I am old.

Legionnaires I can do without though: Dream Girl, Bouncing Boy, Triplicate Girl (later reduced to Duo Damsel), SHrinking Violet, Princess Projectra.

I just started reading Legion with this relaunch (so I haven't read any of the past incarnations) and I thought it ruled. The second issue... I wasn't a fan of AS MUCH as the first, but that doesn't mean I didn't love it.
As for certain things being "lame"... I haven't found anything to be particularly "lame" as of yet, minus the names (which were explained perfectly in issue 1). I think the costumes rule and the characters rule.
And I found myself oddly attracted to "Dream Girl" which is... odd. I'm not one of those "damn, she's a hot cartoon!" sicko's... you know who you are.
I don't know how this take differs from previous takes and I'm not corrupted by the knowledge of how Brainiac 5 used to act or what Karate Kid used to look like... I can judge it as a stand alone book, for what it is. And I think it rocks.

And also, I think it adds this sort of... darkness to the DCU. This shadow, of sorts. I'm not sure why I think of it, because this DOES take place like 10 centuries in the future, but the fact that there are no "Bat-People" and that Superman isn't whizzing around and that Wonder Woman isn't lasso-ing it up about town makes me think that maybe these guys may not be undefeatable after all. That they’ll all die one day…
Plus it makes me think of "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" which was my only real exposure to the Legion before this, where they go back to see Superman the day before he died.

Actually, I think this incarnation of the Legion has by FAR the best costumes. Especially Karate Kid. The karate gi looks a lot better than his orange get-up. I only read the Legion Foundations TPB, which was pretty good, but I have to say, I prefer Waid and Kitson's reimagining over that. Having just come off of the absolute burn that Bendis' New Avengers is to all Avengers fans, however, I can understand where you're coming from, ddlogan.
