Official New Avengers Discussion Thread!

You guys are killin me.

It's like poking the guy with Tourette's with a sharp stick to get a rise out of him.

I'm afraid that I might relapse and have a complete-Bendis-rant-breakdown.

And here my doc said I've been doing so well... ;)

what scares me is Bendis is a consultant on the Avengers movie

THIS SCARES YOU!? Am I the only one around here that thinks Bendis has been MORE than awesome this year and wishes he actually had a hand in writing the movie?

I thought he was awesome pre-CW but Im so over him now. The Avengers need some new blood and its about time for him to be out

What was it?

I'll put as spoiler for those who haven't read it yet.

Norman tells the villains that were formerly under the Hood to hunt down and kill each of the New Avengers, naming them individually, Captain America, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, etc. One name noticeably missing was Spider-Man. Hood notes "What, no Spider-Man?" to which Norman responds, "Yes, Spider-Man, too. Only I want him alive." And Norman has a maniacal smile and a definite green shading reflecting on his face. It gives me hope he has not forgotten his obsession, and that Spider-Man will play a part in his end game/fall.

I just don't really care about seeing [blackout]Osborn vs. Spider-Man for the billionth time[/blackout]. But I can see how it'd be exciting to a fan.

But it really only makes sense. Like even when Lex Luthor became President, it didn't stop the feud between him and Superman.

Bunch of scenes of people standing around doing Bendis-talk, half the team on the movie poster dont make it in the movie, random character from the Marvel Universe saves the day.

you forgot that thor, ironman, and cap are only in the film for the first 20 min and only so they can hand the world saving duties to luke cage a spider woman.
Unleash the fury....unleash the fury.....unleash the...Kraken?
i am super looking forward to a non stop motion skeleton fight!!!

What I mean by that is Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is my all-time favorite Spider-Man villain and his greatest arch-nemesis. They have taken Osborn and elevated him to (currently) a big-time villain to the whole Marvel Universe. It is now at the point where people are speculating who should bring old Norman down? Captain America, Iron-Man, Luke Cage, the Avengers, etc. And all have good reason.

Spider-Man, despite being Marvel's flagship character, is still really small potatoes in the actual MU. You can see it in microcosm in New Avengers and how he is treated compared to the others. I don't want to see him treated as a goofy "sidekick" character in the background while the MU's big guns take down Norman, Pete's greatest villain. I don't want Norman taken away like the Kingpin (as an example, the animated Spectacular Spider-Man could not use Kingpin and had to replace his role with Tombstone).

This last panel gives me hope that Marvel has not forgotten what makes Norman tick and what subconsciously drives him. This is also a good way to give Spidey a big bump in the MU, as this "street level" hero takes down (or helps take down) such a powerful villain.

yeah at this point Spidey kinda seems like a joke in comparison to the other heroes who have bigger fish to fry with Norman. At this point it would be anticlimatic to have Spidey be the one to bring him down regardless of any past history they have

Yea, but it should be Spider-Man. Who else knows more about old Norman? Note the reference at Norman's summer house in this issue. Speaking of which (spoilers for those who did not read this issue yet):

How did the bomb get into Norman's summer house? Did I miss something? Did Doc Strange remove it and teleported it there? And how long ago, since the Dark Avengers were tracking to that spot since leaving Manhattan? Sorry if I missed it.

So how about this: the Dark Avengers deliver Spider-Man alive to Norman. This is Norman's greatest moment as he can now "finally" discover who Spider-Man is. Pete is unmasked and, per the psychic blind spot rules, all the memories flood back to Norman about Spidey & Pete. This infuriates Norman as Pete has pulled such a grand trick on him and that causes him to snap publicly as the Goblin. Of course, then they would probably have MU's big guns take him down :csad:, but it was Pete who brought down Osborn's credibility and ended his "Reign." :woot:

But, yes, I would still like to see it come down to a Spider-Man/Green Goblin smackdown "for the billionth time." :spidey: :gg:  :woot: :cwink:

an Idea I had would be the Green Goblin would appear and attack Norman and his operations. Norman would think its Harry(unless thats been wiped too). It would be this pyschologic warfare on Norman until he snaps on National TV. The new Green Goblin who made him go crazy would be revealed to be Spider-man

That'd be a bit OOC for Spidey, wouldn't it?

By OOC, do you mean out of character?

I guess you haven't read Amazing Spider-Man in two years. He's being written out of character all the time now! :cwink:

And roach, that's not a bad idea either. But, Norman had the Headsman pose as Goblin in attack on Air Force One. So, he might suspect Headsman (along with the Thunderbolts as well). And maybe Harry would work with Pete, if Pete confides in Harry.

I do. Even considering BND though, I can't see Pete donning the Goblin outfit. Has a lot of bad memories attached to it.

well it tied into my story of what if Peter and MJ turned down Mephisto and Aunt May died. Norman is at the funeral and tells Peter he has a 24 hour head start. Norman then meets with Spider-man's rogues gallery(to include a new Hobgoblin,Scorpion and Beetle) and makes them all agents of Hammer as part of his Anti-spiderman taskforce. Everyone gets upgrades to their abilities.
Peter tries to send MJ away but she wants to help.
Hours later the new improved Lizard, Electro and Boomerang break into the Parker home but they are gone. However the Lizard can track them. They are about to discover Peter and MJ when they are ushered into a church by Eddie Brock(he is still Venom at this time). Venom attacks the three villains but the upgrades make them stronger and they kill Eddie Brock. Peter turns to fight the three to buy MJ some time to escape. He is nearly killed until the symbiote bonds with Peter. Peter escapes. Seeing as Norman is playing for keeps Peter decides he needs some help. It gets it from Arachne, Ricochet, Dusk, Prodigy, Hornet, Arana...the Spider Society also lends aide to Peter, Black Cat, Frogman, Madame Web, Steel Spider and Mattie Franklin Spiderwoman....they set up a base in the sewers(actually the old hideout that Xavier used to prepare for an alien invasion)...this is as far as I have gotten but im thinking that Peter then fakes the death of Spiderman....in fact Norman decapitates the head and keeps it in a room as proof that he is dead...the head starts to talk to him....the head turns out to be Sandman....literally they drive Norman crazy...during this time Peter as Green Goblin appears and puts a strain on Norman until he snaps on tv and gets into his Green Goblin suit.
I wanted to see Peter deal with Norman with more than just a fist fight and I wanted to showcase a MJ who actively becomes a part of Peter's heroics and not just sitting at home crying cause he may not come back......

I do. Even considering BND though, I can't see Pete donning the Goblin outfit. Has a lot of bad memories attached to it.

I see him putting on the suit before making a deal with the devil....
