Im just pasting this review Ive written up here. It pretty fluff, mostly just for friends and family to know my thoughts!

This week brings the release of X-Men Days of Future Past (DOFP) and Im posting my short, non-spoiler thoughts on the film. Hopefully I may be able to encourage anyone to see the film that may be on the fence about it. I was lucky enough to see this 2 weeks early on May 10th at the Global Premiere, so Ive had plenty of time to let it settle in my mind. The X-Men franchise is something I deeply care about, second only to Batman and I have been looking forward to an X-Men film of this caliber for well over 10 years. Simply put this film delivers on that anticipation and I can confidently say that the X-Men film franchise is back on track.

This film in particular is a Comic Book movie unlike any other before it. It is unique in that it introduces time travel and successfully reinvigorates a 14 year old film franchise in a way that does not require an official "reboot". No film has ever attempted this before. It doesn't throw away all of the hard work that has been put into the previous films and instead uses them to its advantage. We also don't have the outcry that comes with rebooting a franchise too early. We can continue on a new fresh path with the actors we all know and love, without the baggage from previous movies weighing them down.

Days of Future Past takes the best elements from X2 and First Class and combines them into ultimately the best X-Men film so far. For those of you that love X2 you will find so much here to enjoy. This is a Bryan Singer X-Film through and through. The quality and true gravitas is back, balanced with the perfect amount of humor and spectacle. The music composed by John Ottman is FINALLY back after 11 years. We now have a legitimate, recognizable X-Men Theme! The best elements of First Class including its spot on cast and time period authenticity also shine through in this film.

There are a few things I did have problems with. I don't think the Sentinels were used to their full potential. They do not speak and are never seen "on patrol" for mutants. They serve their purpose for the story perfectly but nothing more, Meaning what you have seen in trailers and Television spots, is what you get. I would have liked to see more action from them in general to really show what they were capable of against the mutant race. What is presented to us is fantastic so I will blame this on my overblown expectations.

Bishop is, in my opinion completely under used. As with all of the fighting mutants in the future timeline, they are just there to fight and look cool. This method is used to show the disparity of the situation, jumping right in the midst of war. There is no time for any character development and every second is precious. I understand this, but I personally wish there was something more to chew on in the future scenarios. Something Bishop could have easily brought to the table. There is downtime present for exposition, but that is all. Perhaps my biggest disappointment is that in the Future timeline Wolverine gets his adamantium claws back, an awesome suit with Yellow and Blue, classic grey streaks in his hair, but doesn't get any action what so ever. Come on!

On the flip side, Quicksilver is by far the highlight of the film. His power display, look and characterization are completely spot on. I was never one to prematurely hate on the character based on his look, but I am sure many people will be eating their words when they finally see Quicksilver in action, and not just on a magazine cover. We haven't seen a power display as breathtaking as this since the Nightcrawler White House attack in X-Men 2. The 70's portion of the film is where we have room to breath and delve deeper into these characters. This is what the film mainly focuses on and is better off for it. The Xavier and Magneto relationship from First Class is built upon with added layers of complexity here. Throwing Logan between them is a stroke of genius, adding fuel to their fire along with added tension to complete his mission to save the future.

Time travel has been a staple of the X-Men comic books, often providing some of the best stories and characters in the history of the franchise. Days of Future Past is a popular X-Men Comic book storyline that has been adapted very well here within the context of the movie universe. So that means its VERY different from is comic book counterpart. I never thought I would see an X-Men film involving Time Travel so its a dream come true. The possibilities are now endless and It does right wrongs of the past films while laying groundwork for brand new, more extravagant story lines. This is the way to do it, despite any misgivings with how characters have been treated. By the end there will be rejoice, heated debate and even some welcomed confusion but It all depends on what path the next film will take. Days of Future Past completely changes the game, but X-Men: Apocalypse will be the defining film of the franchise as it moves forward.

I've never been more excited to see a film for a second time! I gave it a 9/10 in the poll.

What I like about Teekay's review is how it summed up how I feel about the franchise overall: even when the film's are good, you never quite get that definitive X-Men experience. Unless you're a Wolverine/Magneto/Xavier/Mystique fan, its hard not to feel a bit disappointed with these movies on some level.

I agree to an extent, but I think DOFP delivers on that "X-Men experience" more so than any of the other films so far at least!

Watching this in 24 hrs. Im having a panic attack. So hyped. This has a chance of topping Avengers as my number 2 superhero movie behind TDK.

I'll be watching it in like 25 hours, May 21, 5:00PM!

YAS I can't wait!

Hmm I would love the X-Men movies to focus on the team being X-Men, not always having a treatment of "30% Wolverine 30% Professor X 30% Magneto 10% the rest". But the movies (X1/X2/FC and hopefully DOFP) are good enough to not make me feel disappointed when the other characters don't get much development. I also understand that they only have 120 to 140 minutes. If this was a TV series, I would probably feel different. Plus to be able to tell a strong story in a 2 hour movie, they probably feel like its best if they focus on 2 to 5 characters.

I understand that they can't focus on everyone in a 2 hour film, but do most of the films have to revolve around the same 2-5 people?

Why can't, for instance Wolverine be the main focus of one film, Storm another, etc.

I can't even say I'm too excited to see Scott/Jean/Ororo. Its pretty obvious that Xavier/Magneto are the "Wolverine" of the prequel trilogy, so Apocalypse will focus mostly on them. I imagine Cyclops, Jean, and Storm will essentially be the Banshee/Havok of that movie. Hope I'm wrong, though.

I think the only way they can have a movie focused more on Cyclops and Jean is if they ever brought in Mr. Sinister as a Villain.

watching it tomorrow! Too bad I missed the premiere earlier today here in manila.

I'm not excited anymore either. Just depressed about the whole thing really. :csad:

They would have been fine with just Xavier/Magneto but now you have Gambit who they plan a spin off for so you know he'll get a lot of screen time to establish him. You have Quicksilver who will get bigger part thanks to everyone loving him in dofp. You have Wolverine continuing his domination of the franchise and you include Xavier/Magneto/Mystique. Yeah, Storm/Jean/Cyclops are screwed yet again.
So sick of Singer and Hugh Jackman. :whatever:

SIck of the director who helped bring X-men to screen In first place and helped reivive the genre. And who in first X-Men film as director In 11 years from what those who have said is eather best X-Men film or best since X2 you know the last time singer directed a X-Men film:doh:

Apocalypse Is last film In First Class trilogy so obviously Xavier,Magneto, and Mystique are going to get a lot of focus. Some are already saying DOFP Is more a Xavier.magneto film and a wolverine fan had said he wished wolverine had more to do.

If you really thought the last film of FC trilogy and last film that james Mcavoy,Michael fassbender,Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are under contract for wouldn't focus on them and instead newbees to franchise then you were kidding yourself

Hugh Jackman Is star of franchise and it's time some people accept that.
Reports are saying DOFP Is not Last Stand. No matter who much i liked Captain America the winter soldier I am under no allusion that Tony Stark Is going to be overshadowing Captain America In Age of ultron. Batman will probally overshadow the rest In Justice league.

We don't know how large gambit's role Is in Apocalypse. It could be small role to convince fox to push ahead with gambit solo film but if it's larger it gives Apocalypse some star power to deal with that besides Jackman they won't have OT cast In Apocalypse. Jennifer Lawrence and Michael fassbender are the stars of FC cast. Channing Tantum adds star power.

Everyone who has seen DOFP loves quicksilver so of course they would bring
him back.

Fox wants to bring X-Men films back to where X2 and Last stand were.

They're just expressing their opinions, there's no need to lecture anyone. Agree to disagree and move on, please.

I understand your concerns. If Singer and co. really mean for Apocalypse to be the story about how the X-Men came together, then I expect Cyclops, Jean, and Storm to receive focus. I'm not expecting whatever they'll be up to to be insignificant, but Magneto and Mystique aren't X-Men, so unlike in FC and DOFP, I don't think they'll have a primary role in the heart of the story in Apocalypse (the formation of the X-Men).

We'll see what happens.

I love that Xavier/Magneto are being considered the "new wolverine." That's amazing to me. If not only because it's two people instead of one. That it's two sides of a coin rather than just one. And not to mention they are far more important to the X-Men mythos than Wolvie. And finally that I prefer them both over Jackman's Logan.

It is funny. The TRUE main characters of the X-men are the "new wolverine" lmao!

on a different subject, the best advice I can give folks right now is to LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS! Im seeing a lot of just completely overblown expectations on Facebook and the like... and I'm worried many will be just disappointed based on high expectations. That 93% on rotten tomatoes is not helping matters lol.

People really think Magneto will battle apocalypse in this. Its getting that bad lol. We just need everyone to calm down a bit, and it will help the overall experience of the movie IMO.

My expectations were through the roof and it had a negative impact on my viewing, I just don't want it to happen to anyone else!

I'm glad I was able to hear a few specific spoilers, now my expectations will be lowered and I can enjoy the film for what it is. Similar to the Mandarin twist in IM3. If I didn't know about it until I watched the film, I would have been pissed.

I admit I am worried by how they are going to fit in cyc jean and storm into apoc, but I have a feeling it will be that they are the only three plus gambit and nightcrawler who will have the power to take him on. Which will be really cool. I think they should be fine. but I do get the worry.

I wouldn't worry, Apocalypse will have the best ever on screen X-men team by far and away.

Even if Scott and Jean get short changed, they ARE THERE! They are in, and they will see some legitimate action finally after what, 13 years? lol

Cyclops, Jean, Storm, [BLACKOUT]Wolverine[/BLACKOUT], Beast, Gambit, Nightcrawler. With Quicksilver and Mystique over on the Brotherhood with Magneto. Im not sure how much better it can get! oh yea.. APOCALYPSE!

I don't think there is anything to be worried about. At least Apocalypse won't be a cloud!

Yeah I think its just the time devoted to each character I think but I always think that and then am pleasantly surprised

Thanks. Despite my feelings towards the franchise, I think Singer deserves huge credit overall. This film was really a roller coaster ride, I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat. Truly was a pleasure to watch.:woot:

I hope I am proven wrong but all I have to go on is Singer's track record and his weakness when it comes to X-women and the obsession that he and Fox have on Wolverine plus the reasons I stated.
I don't trust Fox and Singer. They haven't earned my trust yet and they won't until I see these movies actually feel like X-men movies instead of Wolverine and the x-men.
We'll see how it all turns out. I wish I could be excited about it though instead of dreading it.

Just saw it in France.

I loved it!

The movie has imo some (minor ) problems ( lot of expositions and not always necessary) but it is just the Xmen a lot of us have been waiting for! : FUN, with mindblowing and tenseful action scenes, and more than ever, it is amazing ideolagically speaking.

I've never felt so torn, so moved about the Xmen (movie) conflict and choices, so moved.

Bravo!

I'm pretty sure Scott/Jean/Ororo will be more like First Class Mystique/Beast of X-Men: Apocalypse. Though in my opinion, something has to change with their direction.
