How would you rank the X films now?

1. DOFP
2. X2
3. FC
4. X1
5. X3
6. TW
7. XOW

Its really a great movie. I know its still very recent, but I watched FC/XOW last Friiday, I watched X1/X2 last Monday and I watched X3/TW yesterday and for me, the ending of DOFP is the most moving and most satisfying ending of all X-Men films.

And is it just me, I feel like they adjusted the hue/brightness for the 70s scenes. There's like a 70s look effect to the coloring. I never noticed that in the future scenes.

Also may I add, I didn't like the old camera look for some scenes. I just wish they didn't use that look,

Thanks Xrs, and lower your expectations if you can.

so
1:Did they show scenes from X1-3 as part of jean flashback like they did with X1,X2,and origins with Stryker 2:In credits could you tell If Shadowcat was part of Kitty's credits In cast 3:Do you feel like the X films are erased apart from FC and 1973 parts of DOFP In altered future except for wolverine and Xavier remembering them?

All of the X-Men movies are very fresh to me. The flashback scenes are quite fast but I caught some moments like
1. In X1, Jean smiling to Wolverine at the clinic
2. In X3, Wolverine stabbing Jean's stomach

I didn't catch Kitty Pryde's name. what I noticed is Famke/James are billed after the main cast. I don't think the X-films except FC/1973 parts are erased. I feel like DOFp is a celebration of all X-Men films and like I said, all the 6 films are listed in the credits. They are just now in a different timeline, personally I call it "Timeline A".

And by the way, Jean's hair is very red. If you're a big fan of the OT cast like me, its a very great scene even if we didn't get a group shot of them. Also the X-Mansion looked different from X1/X2.

I'll never remember them all! Sorry but that's too complex a task after just one viewing!

You know, the movie is almost here...you could see it for yourself and find out. :cwink:

Even then, you would need a spreadsheet and stopwatch for such a task!

Exactly! I feel like I can't even properly review it until I see it a second time.

Can you afford my price?

Let's turn to the PowerPoint presentation...

Lol! Sounds like an essay question man!

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha my bad, I guess I should rephrase the question.

I'm gonna post my answers in the spoilers thread

Awesome movie! It definitely feels like the most epic X-Men film to date. Its not perfect, I noticed some problems but the end and the purpose of the movie is what really carried the movie. There were two moments in the film that I almost cried. First was the moment when Charles was asking Raven to not kill Trask and that there's still goodness left in Raven's heart. That was just amazing and the soft music makes it more emotional and powerful. The 2nd of course is when Wolverine woke up in the altered future. Whats great when they started the scene is they were playing the same song when Wolverine woke up in 1973 and the direction of that scene was just perfect. Then Wolverine first saw Rogue/Bobby, then Shadowcat/Colossus, then Beast, then Storm, Logan was like "Storm...." then a short pause and Wolverine saw this woman with a very red hair and its Jean! Wolverine's true love in the movie series and the woman who had a big impact to him. That moment when he saw her was just amazeballs! Then after that, Cyclops! Ugh he looked so cool even with that quirky glasses. Then of course after that Prof X and Wolverine talked. The entire scene was a very very special special scene! Plus Professor X saying to Wolverine that they have a lot to catch up, is a big hint that its not the end for the original cast!

I don't really know how to review the movie so I'm just gonna say my thoughts to each character:
70s Professor X- I think the most important and strongest thing to Charles in this movie is her relationship with Mystique. Charles didn't really want to do the mission, but since Raven is involved and Raven is still in his heart, he came with Logan not only to save the future, but also to save Raven. Like I said, that moment during the climax was very special.
70s Magneto- I didn't really feel Magneto in this one, despite teaming up with Prof X/Logan, he was still rebellious and selfish. The fact he was gonna kill Raven made me not like him. Then him lifting a football stadium was just gonna cause more trouble to mutants.
Beast- there's just something lacking in Nicholas Hoult. I mean just with his reaction when Charles and Erik were yelling at each other inside the plane was just like bad acting to me. For a supporting character and for someone who appeared for most of the film, he wasn't really strong and he failed to make a big impression. He's lacking of oomph. I couldn't even care less when he was turning blue. Kelsey Grammer is still the better Beast.
Mystique- what I liked about Mystique in this movie is she's no longer that innocent whiney girl in First Class. She's fighting for a cause, I guess freedom and justice for all mutants. She's helping other mutants. I liked her reaction when she saw those photos of mutants being experimented and killed, she cares about her fellow mutants. And even if she's no longer that innocent girl, she didn't completely went to dark side and kill all the humans unlike Magneto.
Quicksilver- I thought it was awesome and I wish they used him more. I really liked the prison break and I was kinda disappointment that he was done after that. He only has 3 separate scenes. First, when Logan/Charles/Beast recruited him. Second, the prison break. Third, watching Magneto on TV. I also got the "father-son hint" maybe they could explore that in the next movie if he comes back for Apocalypse. But in my opinion, its not really necessary but I still want Quicksilver to return, he has so much potential and he was likable. His slow-motion scene got a lot of laughs.
Trask- I don't like him. There was just something very off about his reasoning for hunting mutants and using them for expirementations. I didn't like the scene regarding that.
Stryker- I guess he's okay just for his connection with Wolverine but I feel like he wasn't really needed in the big picture. Maybe they should have just given him the cameo role.
Toad/Havok/Ink/the other mutant- they didn't really make an impression to me, I guess they were added in the movie to show that Mystique is helping her fellow mutants and that the government people is really gathering mutants for their expirementations. It was kinda cool to see Havok, and I liked his reaction when Mystique winked at him.

Wolverine- well basically, the #1 person responsible for changing the past. I liked when they showed his ass, that was really unexpected. I don't really have a lot to say about him, all I can say is once again Hugh was good in the movie and like always, he got a meaty role.
00s Professor X- Obviously, other than Wolverine, he's the one from the future that got the most lines and scenes and presence. That scene where he talked to his younger self was really special and there was just something deep when he said to his younger that they need him to hope again.
00s Magneto- Well he didn't really do much, he said a couple of lines when Logan was about to time-travel and he was part of the action, but I wasn't really impressed with his role in this film. I also didn't really feel bad when he was stabbed in the stomach. Maybe if he was vaporized or he was chopped into pieces like the others maybe I would feel bad but no. I also wish that the intimate moment between him and Professor X was longer to make it more emotional.
Storm- well I don't really regret reading spoilers because like I said, it helped me not to have super high expectations and I kinda knew Storm wasn't really gonna get a lot of airtime. So I wasn't really disappointed with Storm's role. From my memory, she got like 4 lines. She was really quiet, she never said anything to Logan, she never said anything when the mutants were discussing of going back to time. I liked her first scene in the film, I just love the shot when she came out of the X-Jet, then she had a little moment with Iceman which was cute. Then when Wolverine was about to be send to the past, Storm, Colossus and the new mutants went outside to guard the temple. Then her next scene was her final moments before she died. She floated and use her powers against the Sentinels. Then after the big explosion coming from the X-Jet, she was like "Is everybody okay" 2 seconds later. She was stabbed and I was like oh my god, and they slowed down the moment when the Sentinel threw her body. It was sad, after that, more chaos and the Sentinels were picking them off one by one.
Colossus- he only had 1 line and it was "Mystique". LOL so random, I don't think they ever met before in the previous films. Basically he was there to fight with the Sentinels, I wasn't even impressed with his action scenes because the Sentinels were so strong and he couldn't really knock them down. I guess he gets some points from since he's a returning cast member and he was seen at the altered future. And in my opinion, since we saw him and Shadowcat together, maybe they should make them an item in the next movie.
Rogue- most of her scenes were definitely cut and she was there for like 3 seconds. The people in my theater were like "Anna Paquin Anna Paquin". Basically, she just gave Logan a little smile and she walked off with Iceman. Now that I saw the movie, I don't think Rogue's scene was really needed. I think it was best for the movie that they didn't include it, things were already complicated in the past, things being more complicated in the future would not be good for the movie.
Warpath- well his role in this movie was he served like a Sentinel radar. He was there to warn his fellow mutants when the Sentinels are about to find them. I think this film wouldn't be different without him but at the same time, he wasn't really useless. He was just okay.
Sunspot- if I could remove one mutant in the future, it would be Sunspot. I guess he was added so the Sentinels could copy his powers, well his powers looked cool and he flew but he's easily the most forgettable character in the future. I don't think he said a word.
Blink- well she had 1 line and it was "time's up". To be honest, I didn't really like Blink, visually her powers were cool but she didn't really wow me. Her wormholes or whatever those holes are, didn't really help them that much. If she wasn't in the movie, there wouldn't really be a difference. At least with Storm/Iceman/Colossus, we are already familiar with them and they appeared in the end. So in a way, I think I would rather have Angel, Nightcrawler and Jubilee than Warpath, Sunspot and Blink.
Bishop- he's my favorite new mutant in the future. Obviously, no character development but I liked when he uses the abilities of other mutants to like charge his gun. I have to rewatch the movie to get why Kitty took him when they time-travelled.
Iceman- it was really cool to see Iceman once again. Despite having a smaller role, he was still likable, I love his ice form though it was only shown for 2 separate scenes, I liked that he was caring friend to Shadowcat and like I said, I liked his reaction when he saw Storm. I also kinda felt bad, when he died for the second time.
Shadowcat- I guess I like Kitty's role because without her, time travel wouldn't be impossible. But once Wolverine was sent to the future, she was just there kneeling through the rest of the movie until the mission succeeded. I also wish there was more tension that she was possibly gonna die and I wish they executed the scene where accidentally Logan stabbed her much better. Well maybe they should have just removed that part.

For the people who are asking for the flashbacks. There's 3 flashback sequences
1. Kid Charles meeting kid Raven
2. Wolverine's memory of Stryker
3. Wolverine's memory of Jean - I like Jean but this wasn't needed at all especially Charles' reaction (I don't want your future) and Wolverine was just like "Oh I didn't mean to show you that one, try again".

Other things I liked:
1. I really the first few minutes of the movie, the lighting of the X when the logo of 20th Century Fox faded into black. I liked the X door even though it looked different. I liked the return of the animation sequence, it looked too CGI but I liked it. This should be a tradition to X-Men films that features the original cast. I also liked that they reused X2's theme.
2. The credits, I was really hoping for a simple credits similar to the original trilogy and I'm glad they kept it simple even if they used a different font.
3. The tease to Apocalypse. I thought it was really catchy. I don't know whats the premise of that but its a cool scene. And Apocalypse didn't look a girl to me. I guess the make-up is what makes him look like a girl to some people.
4. Wolverine telling to remember the names of Scott, Ororo and Jean.
5. Check the credits and you'll see the titles of the first 6 X-Men movies!

My main criticism about the movie is the pacing especially during the middle part of the movie. Like starting with the moment when Logan and the company stopped Mystique from killing Trask, a lot of things were just happening in that scene and "I was like ugh slow it down". Wolverine had a shock when he saw Stryker then we saw flashback scenes of Stryker, then in the future, Wolverine was struggling and he suddenly scratched Kitty with his claws, then back in 1973, Beast and Magneto were fighting then the 1973 Wolverine was like "where am I where am I". I don't even know how Wolverine managed to calm down. For me, things were just to the fast during those moments then after that they were back in the mansion, Professor X is suddenly the need to take the cure because its wearing off. Thankfully, things picked up again after that. And the other minor thing, I feel like it would have enhanced the movie more if they explained things more. Like for example, it was nice to see Shadowcat/Iceman/Colossus reunited with the X-Men but how did they find each other? Then there was this mutant in the opening scene, and he was digging through the ground and saw a body of a X-Men, I guess its a X-Man because of the X symbol. I liked that scene but it didn't lead to anything. For a second, I thought it was Rogue because of the white streak but no.

Over-all, its a very good movie. Just with the concept of changing the past to save the future makes this movie feel special and epic. Then you have these emotions/previous relationships that come into play made the story very strong despite the problems with the pacing. And I have to say the speech from Charles at the end of the movie was really touching, I felt like it had a lot of thought, depth and emotion. I can't wait to watch this movie again!

Great review. Agree with the pacing part. Glad you enjoyed it.:woot:

Let me clarify myself!

I didn't mean EVERY SINGLE moment, just an overview describing how each character was handled.

Thanks for your honest review.
For me the film was perfect and I didn't see the different X door at the beginning, I thought it looked the same. The problem with not connecting to the future cast was that there was no time to set up intro's for them because that was not their story. So it was hard to connect.

I thought it looked different and the closing of the X door was faster in the first three X-Men movies.

and no one answered my question yet:
is it just me? or they adjusted the hue/brightness for the 70s scenes. There's like a 70s look effect to the coloring. I never noticed that in the future scenes.

i think the Mystique Vietnam scene was unnecessary. It should have been replaced with Rogue's rescue scene.

I think they want to show what Mystique has been doing without Erik.

Also, she prevented the possibility of Havok being experimented.

And does anyone know the name of the mutant who has similar powers with Dania Ramirez's character in Heroes?

Yes, that was all James Cameron. They asked him how you do future and past. He said "the Director must make it different so the public understands where they are at on screen"

edit: one could say the Star Wars scrolls were different speeds in A New Hope compared to the other movies as well. LOL!! But I see what your saying.

To be honest, I didn't like it. I thought it was my glasses or the lighting of the room that they were in. Also like I mentioned before, this "4:3 screen format, old TV/old camera" look for some scenes made me cringe.

What is Warpath's powers in the film, is it just tracking or does he have others?

My 2014 Summer Superhero Movie scores so far:

Winter Soldier 8.5/10
TASM2 7/10
DOFP 8/10
GOTG ?

Yeah I don't see any superhero film this year being better than "The Winter Soldier", that movie blew me away.

Yep. It also led her to Trask, and introduced Stryker, so it was important to the stories.

I honeslty find both equally amazing, so it just comes down to preference. I have an X-Men bias that I'm not afraid to admit, so it's DoFP for me. :woot:

For me Days of Future Past is better than The Winter Soldier. I'm not saying this because I'm a X-Men fan but because DOFP almost had me crying. If I would have cried if I was alone.
