I just don't love First Class like so many people do. It's a solid film and considering the thin time restraints, Vaughn and Goldman whipped up a good script and did a damn good job. I liked the tone more than the style of the film. But about the only thing I loved was Xavier and Magneto. It just doesn't sink in for me like Singer's films do. There's that element of gravitas that is needed for X-Men that Singer is better equipped for than Vaughn.

Yeah I agree with a lot of what you say. I do give FC a lot of kudos for getting things back on track and its certainly a good entry in the series but it does suffer from a few more problems than X2 or even X1. Fassbender elevated it though with his performance. Singer did have a lot of input though so I dont see it as cut and dried as totaly seperate from what Singer did at least it was good enough to be in the same bracket as his films unlike some others:whatever:

Just saw it for the second time. Still fabulous. :woot:

You ready to rate or review it yet Danoyse or are you not doing that?

I also saw it for a second time today. Loved it even more the second time around. If I could rate it 11/10 I would. I was able to appreciate all the little subtle things and details even more.

What a movie. Amazing.

The only gripe I really had with the film had to do with the credits.

Why the F*** was Anna Paquin listed above Ellen Page, Famke Jansen and James Marsden? I mean, seriously WTF? Those three actors actually ACTED, with speaking parts and (in Ellen's case especially) with great emotion and even comedic timing.

Anna was on screen for literally 3 seconds...and she didn't utter a damn word. Billing her above Ellen especially was REALLY inappropriate. There is no way to justify that. :down
I thought about that too and my conclusion was because she had a larger role that was all but cut for that 3 second cameo at the end. The cut scenes were likely what warranted a higher listing but when it was cut they did not alter the end credits to reflect her virtually non-existant role.

Billing is in the contract.. A contract that everyone signed.

Still haven't been able to see it :( want to go tomorrow to see it.

The 80's was the worst decade for everything (except sci-fi films). I will be rooting for Apocalypse to win in the next movie, destroy it all:cwink:

Those who lived through the 80's don't remember the 80's. At least that's what I've been told. :o

I felt more gravitas in FC than I have for any other Xmen movie.
Magneto's confession to Shaw before driving the coin through his head is more powerful (for me) than any scene in the X franchise.

Well, that's just like your opinion man. It's about what's an individual finds the most fulfilling out of a film. So if it did that for you, good for you. FC doesn't really have that stuff for me. That's a great scene sure, but I can think of several scenes that are better in Singer's films. One of them being in X2 when Magneto tells Xavier what Stryker did to him. The music, the writing, the subtlety of the performances. That entire scene sends chills up my spine.

"Is it? Or are you afraid of losing one of your precious X-Men. Old friend."

"Erik what have you done?"

"I'm sorry Charles... I couldn't help it."

"What have you told Stryker?"

"Everything."

Yeah I agree with a lot of what you say. I do give FC a lot of kudos for getting things back on track and its certainly a good entry in the series but it does suffer from a few more problems than X2 or even X1. Fassbender elevated it though with his performance. You can tell it's a little rushed too in areas, but I can forgive that since that couldn't be helped.

I thought it was good but the near constant exposition was really noticable to me, it was needed but still it's an issue to me and the first part is too rushed. I liked the story, all the performances and Singer has a better handle on the action sequences then he usually does. It's too bad the villain was so weak. Dinklage is a fine actor but the villain is too vague for my taste. I've never been in love with the non Magneto villains (Bacon was fun and pretty good though) in this franchise so it's not a surprise that this villain didn't hit me right. I had some issues with the pacing but it was overall pretty good. I thought the tone was pretty much just right.

Overall it's another good outing in the franchise and I think it's Singer's best outing in the franchise.

RATING:

8 or an 8.5/10. I haven't really decided yet.

I'll say I liked Dinklage much more than Bacon in this series. But yeah, he deserved more fleshing out. Bacon came off as too 2-D for my taste.

I agree I liked Dinklage way more than Bacon in the X movies.

Trask's motivations are basically he wants to bring about world peace. I like that as a distinctive motivator for a villain. I just wish his curiosity was also as well emphasized. It's in there to be sure but it seems to stop short. I will say he's the best new X-villain in these films since Cox's Stryker(I don't count Fassbender's Magneto since it's not a new character).

Stryker was never an interesting character to me which I guess I infer in my review so this post is a little redundant I'll admit.

IMO he was only interesting when Cox was playing him.

Danny Huston, yeah. He's an ok actor really but nothing of value was escaping that black hole of awfulness that was Origins.

Can't blame Huston for what he had to work with.

That could be true because even Jackman looked lost in that film and look at him now.

Everything in Origins was horrible so I definitely don't blame Huston. Even Jackman's performance wasn't great in that film.

EDIT: Blackfox said it before I did.

About to go see it again, This time in 3D just to say i did. lol.

I've seen it three times. I haven't bothered with 3D. But who knows...

I will say I enjoyed this much better than First Class by far. I think the acting was overall better from most everyone, even if some of the big boys had smaller roles.
I enjoyed every ones future suits it made everyone more intense looking imo. Wolverine looked good in that out fit and probably his best look to date imo.
Even though, Storm had a minimal role she looked good, real good. As far as Raven goes, this was well done. Her fight scenes were really good and her character was very well done in this, good job Jennifer Lawrence, btw Jennifer had it going on as Mystique.
Quicksilver was good as well, little nerdy, but I guess that's how he is? His scene in the Pentagon was flawless imo.

*btw who was the guy in end credit scene?
