Great action scenes, Qicksilver, Wolverine is cool again but... the rest between action is quite boring. And I didn't like that

I might need a second viewing to definitively say this, but i liked this more than Captain America 2, and I liked Cap more than the Avengers. So I think i liked an x-men film more than the Avengers.

Its hard to properly compare to other films for me at the moment, need to let the excitement calm down first, will be able to judge better after a second viewing, but there are lots of strong scenes and performances to enjoy no matter what the final verdict.

Believe Im not really a fan of post credit scenes but that had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.

I think a large reason why i liked it so much is probably the same reason why some people here don't like it. The action (or lack thereof) I'm a huge fan of using action to compliment the drama, not the other way around and

When we did get action though, it served a purpose and felt natural, that had me respect it a lot!

Easily the best action scenes in an Xmen film to date, the way the future mutants combined powers was awesome, Blink's powers were just a sight to behold, and havent we all wanted to see the Xmen fighting Sentinels since reading the comics, we got it in spades and with emotional weight to it both in the future and past. It blows X2 out of the water in that department although it does have the advantage of a bigger budget and more advanced CG these days to be fair.

I've just come back from seeing it, and I'm still in awe at how awesome it is. The action and scale of the movie was epic. The cast were fantastic. Especially Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence, and Jackman. The sentinels were bad ass, especially the future ones. Creepy and unstoppable. Quicksilver was hilarious and so cool. Hope he comes back for future movies. The story was well done, very interesting, kept me hooked, and the pacing was perfect. Movie never dragged once for me.

It was incredible how Singer blended the two universes of the old school cast with the First Class one. It was great to see the old school cast back, even though they were used sparingly. The ending was beautiful. Loved it. I like how no continuity was ignored, even the unpopular X-Men 3 was acknowledged.

To me this is the best comic book movie since The Dark Knight. I can't wait to see it again. And again.

Agreed it does feel like they are going in the right direction with it at last and making it more "epic" like an Avengers or Dark Knight film. Not saying its as good as those, it might be, as I said I need to see it again but if those two films got drunk, ended up in bed together and had a kid Days of Future Past would be its love child.

Jury is still out, i remember all the hate leveled at Quicksilver before this film came out...and lo and behold, those people are eating crow. Moral of the story; wait and see.

Anyone who thought his character would suck because of his look...well, they were just dumb. I mean Dafoe was a great Goblin despite having a horrible costume.

Now, I will say (haven't seen it yet) but even if QS is amazing, and by all accounts he seems to be, I'll still be annoyed at the rather cruddy costume design they gave him. It just looks a bit silly, no matter how you shake it. But I imagine it'll be a similar situation as TDK Batman costume. I really dislike the design, but at least it looked okay in action...when you couldn't see the over-designed details.

so I just got back, review as follows.

X-men has had some stumbles ever since Bryan Singer left the series, along the way we've gotten missteps in his absence with the likes of X-men 3 and Origins. First Class and to a lesser extent The Wolverine starting taking things back in the right direction but with Singer returning with Days of Future Past the series has finally once again found its feet. Singer has managed to combine the best elements of First Class and the original series together and resurrect the series in a film that hits the heights of its glory days.

Whilst past installments have been too Wolverine focused DOFP is a genuine ensemble story with Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto, Raven and Trask all providing the backbone of the story. In a desolate future Wolverine's mind is sent back in time to his younger self in 1973 with the task to somehow try and get young drug riddled Xavier and imprisoned Magneto to work together to prevent Mystique from becoming the trigger for a future war. At the same time the film cuts back and forth across time where the future characters are doing what they can to ensure Wolverine's mind remains in the past. Once you overcome the somewhat awkward initial 5-10 mins of the film where the set up for how things work is explained the film's plot moves fluidly for the remainder of the movie, intertwining the various plot elements with easy and never once feeling overstuff or bogged down. The editing and pacing in the movie is excellent and probably the best in a superhero film in quite some time, especially when you consider the somewhat convoluted story happening.

Whilst the film is an ensemble piece the heart of the movie is probably with young Xavier, in the 10 years since First Class he is a shell of a man who has given up on his abilities and still longs for Raven to come back to him. With Wolverine's help he begins to wake up in an effort to change history but years of drug inducement has made it emotionally difficult for him to use his powers. It eventually, and in what is probably the best scene in the movie, leads to him to connecting with his future self who gives him the will to move forward in order to reconnect with who he is, and in some way plant the seed for whom he'll eventually become.

The cast in the movie is of course amazing. There really is no need to go into the actors portrayals of the character as most have become synonymous with their characters, even the First Class cast has comfortably slipped into their respective roles. Jackman is awesome as Wolverine. Jennifer Lawrence reallys bring so much heart and depth to Mystique. Peter Dinklage is fantastic and a stroke of casting genius. What's fascinating are the two Magnetos and Xaviers, I can't tell you who how awesome it is to see both sets of actors in one film, and whilst the older of the two don't have as much screen time as the younger pair what's amazing is seeing the chemistry between them. The older pair are wounded warriors regretting the decisions they've made, the younger two trying to put aside their differences for a common goal, it's great to watch. As for the supporting cast, the future cast are made up of mostly glorified cameos with Kitty Pride having the main role to play, whilst in the past Beast seems to kinda just tag along for the ride. The Quicksilver sequence is actually one of the coolest and genuinely unique action sequences in a superhero film in quite some time.

The film itself looks beautiful, it's style and cinematography is up there with the earlier Singer films. The special effects are top notch as are the action sequences, especially towards the end of the movie where battles are taking place between the two timelines is intense.

Overall what's been delivered in this film is a kick in that the arse the series needed. It fixes many of the anomalies the series has accumulated over the years (although not all feel satisfactory) and gives the series a freshness moving forward. I'm not quite sure where things can go from here on in, in many ways it feels like the First Class journey is completed yet there's enough to suggest more could be done in the past still. It would be ashame to no longer see McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence anymore as all three have contributed immensely to their characters and the series. Whatever the future holds we should all be looking forward to it because the X-Men are no longer yesterdays heroes, they are back where they belong.

Okay, expectations are at an all time high. 8 years, people. 8 years I've longed for Singer's return. I'm going to have so much fun tonight if this film matches this review and my expectations.

Screw it, I'll just say it; this has always been my preferred Marvel Cinematic Universe. There's just something about X-Men.

Oh my God!

Just got in from watching this. I had HUGE expectations for this movie, and it surpassed them all. It had everything I could ask for!

I loved how it ended! I'll be honest, when I was watching it and saw a lot of our heroes die, I was starting to think "where on earth are they going to leave this?". Then when Wolverine woke up and starts walking round the school, and starts talking to Jean Grey, I immediately thought "oh they wouldn't give us Cyclops back, would they?" and boom!! There he was . The movie was a fantastic way of tying up all of the loose ends and righting a lot of the wrongs from previous films!

I love the little things as well, the things that don't really matter to most people watching, for example when Magneto tells Quicksilver that he can control metal, and Quicksilver responds "my mom knew a guy like that once" , yeah Peter, she did indeed! The Quicksilver scenes for me were excellent. The choice of music as well when everything's slowed right down as he's doing his thing, fantastic!

People will probably whinge saying they didn't explain the Xavier 'resurrection', however for me the X3 & The Wolverine mid/post credit scenes were enough for me.

One thing, I suppose we'll have to assume that Magneto assisted in getting Wolverine his claws back following the events of the latest Wolverine movie? Also, am I missing something, how did Wolverine know who Quicksilver was? Was he one of the kids who he helped escape in the Origins of Wolverine?

Over all, Bryan Singer has rescued the Xmen film series for me. Oh and what a post-credit scene, huh??

Days of Future Past could just as well be called 'Bryan Singer reclaims the X-Men'.

For a start, he brings back the theme tune from X2. That's just a hint that this may be the seventh movie, but it's really his X-Men 3. Secondly - and this surprised me - Singer shows the Weapon X footage from X2, not X-Men: Origins. It's a big middle finger to that movie - which he then wipes from continuity completely, and sets it up so he can do Weapon X again himself if he wants.

And then Scott and Jean are back, in a middle finger to The Last Stand.

So basically everything is as Singer left it in X2, he's removed the films he wasn't involved in, and reclaimed his authorship.

Intrestingly, he even changes Magneto's costume from the comicy, colourful design of First Class, to something more resembling Ian McKellen's X2 costume.

This movie is literally Singer saying, "X-Men is mine!"

And all the better for it.
