X-Men frankly deserves its own universe. If anything, DOFP has shown me that the MCU formula is really kinda bland and uninteresting in comparison to this and earlier X-Men films. The MCU films may be good for the most part but they are still lacking substance overall. X-men really does have a depth to it that I feel is unrivaled by all Marvel movies, and even some WB films as well. Hopefully with Singer steering the franchise back on course it can start genuinely reaching it's potential. I've heard people say they want X-Men back at Marvel, at this point in time that would be a huge mistake.

I want Marvel to hand over some characters to Fox now:o

(just a joke folks)

I love the MCU movies, but if this is the direction the X-Men movies are now going in, I have no desire to see them team up.

It could be cool if they did...but for now, I'm happy for them to stay in their own film universe for now.

After seeing this movie I completely agree. The universes should stay separate, Fox really made a great film this time around.

Just saw this. Excellent film. It's pretty much focused on the past with McAvoy Fassbender, Wovlerine, Beast & Mystique but awesome nonetheless. The future action scenes were great, wish we could have had a hell of a lot more of them. And as everyone has said, Quicksilver was also great, his scenes were hilarious. Loved it & the X franchise is now officially completely back on track!

The movie was simply brilliant, but one of the bigger disappointments were that Singer never explained how come Wolverine has his Adamantium claws in the future oh and >

That we won't be seeing Emma Frost anytime soon :(

Hey there SHH! First time poster long time lurker here...

I just got back from seeing the film and I was floored by how good it was. I kept my expectations at the minimum and kept away from the spoilers as well, so I wasn't disappointed much at how some of the things turned out.

General observations (spoiler-heavy!):
- The opening credits sequence brought back all the great memories of seeing the trilogy's openings and those grand, bombastic musical themes. It gave me goosebumps and it also got me a little teary-eyed.

- Some of the dialogue was clunky and future scenes went a little too much into the exposition-heavy territory with regards to the time travel 'modus operandi 'and what lead to the apocalyptic future. Kind of understandable given the plot, but I felt it could have been done in a more casual way.
A single throwaway line about how Professor X was alive would have been welcome, but I guess the one given in The Wolverine works.

I agree there was some clunky dialogue early on in the film. As for Xavier, well this was now many years after the end credits of The Wolverine where we saw he was alive - I guess they didn't want to spend time on it and go on about the braindead twin.

- Future Sentinels being developed
using Mystique's DNA: I get the logic behind this idea, but wasn't it already established that Mystique herself cannot copy another mutant's powers, only their appearance? When Wolverine cut 'her claws' off in X1, didn't she scream because it was essentially an organic part of her body? This plot point felt like it was written for Rogue initially and then changed for Mystique once they figured they couldn't have Rogue back in the '70s.

I think the power copying was probably going to be because they got Rogue's DNA, but that never happened.

Also, could they copy powers or just physical qualities (like metal, fire, ice)? Otherwise why didn't they copy Blink's portals and go into the monastery that way?

- Trask's motivation wasn't really clear. Why did he hate mutants so much? The whole 'homo sapiens vs. homo neanderthalensis' discussion sheds some light on the subject, but it felt like a lot of his character development was left on the cutting room floor. Some unresolved height issues?

I agree that a little more motivational development might have helped.

- I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but as one of the few ardent supporters of X3, DOFP was as equally -- if not more -- as guilty of some of the issues people fervently complain about X3. Namely,
useless mutant cameos and obvious fan-service. As great as Quicksilver was, there really was no point to the character beyond that rescue scene, and the less said about Havok's mutant army comrades the better. With X3 at least you knew they were there for quick visual gags, but here you were lead to expect them to actually have a greater effect on the overall story.

I agree. I thought Bishop was a bit underused, and that Havok, Ink, Spyke (?) and Toad weren't really necessary to the story, to be honest.

- Not to knock the final conflict/resolution in the '70s down,
but I thought it was strange that the Sentinel project got so quickly shelved by the US government especially after having the public witness the full extent of Magneto's attack. And even though she shot Magneto, Mystique still held a gun pointed at the president AND IT WAS ALL TELEVISED. I don't know, it just all felt too forced, pushing the film to a semi-happy, albeit open ending.

(Unless, of course, the public was only lead to believe that the project was deactivated and that Trask was arrested for arms trafficking.)

Well, the Trask Industries website suggests Sentinels were still used up to 1996 in the original unaltered timeline. This one suggests they were shelved, maybe because they caused more harm than good.

- The ending was very
bittersweet to me. It was great seeing OT characters at a happy place, but the sense of 'passing the torch' to FC characters was very obvious. Though slightly open-ended, I doubt we'll be seeing further OT films, and I'm strangely fine with that. Either way, it's good to know that regardless of what happens in Apocalypse and films that follow it, these characters will have a happy ending -- even though it kind of essentially kills any risk and sense of dread we as audience members may feel for these characters, but who knows, further installments may surprise us all.

Yes, if this is one timeline, the 'downside' is that we will always know that Jean, Scott, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, Kitty, Iceman and Rogue are alive in 2023. But then they would never kill off Jean, Scott, Storm or Beast in the next movie set in the past anyway.

I'm kind of sad that there is no more Banshee or Emma.

I loved the fact that Singer tied up many loose ends from the past X-Men movies.

It's taken Fox some time but I think they've turned a corner with the franchise. Which is good, as strong X-Men franchise is good to keep Marvel and WB in check, and maybe give Sony some new ideas.

Just popped back in to say, I still can't stop thinking about this flick.

:woot: Same. I seen it almost 12 hours ago and it's all I've thought about all day. Honestly, I had such high exceptions for the film and, what I got was a whole lot more :oldrazz:. I tweeted Bryan Singer thanking him for saving my favourite franchise. He'll never see it, but so :cwink: ha!

Well i just got back from the movie.

First of all i loved the movie. I really did.

Did i miss Rogue ? Hmmm not so much as i thought i would.

I will say it was obvious to me when her scenes had to come in. But hey that is what the dvd deleted scenes are for.

But for phasing issues i understand her cut. And i really did love the last future scene. She looked so happy. And gorgeous. I want a screencap of if that is hoe great she looks.

I did miss a lot more scenes and the future part lacked some. But this was an FC film to begin with. We complain about Rogue. But all the future characters were not fully used as they could. Storm had hardley any dialogue. Warpath and sunspot were useless to me. Not to mention colossus gets screwed over with dialogue everytime. I really really loved blink she is a great new mutant. Fan nailed her.

What i also loved most besides the whole alternate future was that everything fell into place with all the movies. So i give this movie an 8 / 10

never say never, he once responded to me but it didn't show up on his twitter site. I'll assume it was him, or it could have been an assistant but I thanked him for finishing the Superman OT and asked him about writing and what to do. he responded with 'keep trying and don't give up"

That's awesome man :cwink:

On the movie, I've just read on wikipedia (on the cast bit about Storm):

"...she will lead the X-Men in the toughest challenge they have ever faced. Berry stated that "there’s something very revealing and shocking about Storm in this movie. There are some things you find out about her that I think give you much more insight into who she is."

I guess they cut a lot of her scenes too then? Maybe something we'll see on the blu ray release?

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST continues the good work done by FIRST CLASS in rejuvenating the X-MEN franchise. It's pretty amazing to think this franchise has now spawned 7 films over 14 years - makes me old when I can think back to eagerly anticipating the release of that first film! But with this movie, we really feel the gravitas and a sense of the weight of all that's come before in a way that this series hasn't always been keen to do.

The plot, as you'll likely know, involves the remnants of the X-Men from the original film trilogy in an apocalyptic future, battling robotic mutant-hunters The Sentinels as they face imminent extinction. And Wolverine (Hugh Jackman, who can slip into this role as comfortably as a pair of pyjamas by this stage) is sent back in time to the era of the FIRST CLASS cast playing younger incarnations of everyone to try and stop this future from happening. It all gets a bit timey-wimey and confusing when you try and piece together how the original films are contradicted by this meddling with the timeline, and there are some plodding plot mechanics at work that make the second act a bit of a drudge. But it's in the little details that DAYS OF FUTURE PAST shines. James McAvoy is excellent here, going on a real journey from despair and self-loathing into turning towards the inspirational leader he will become. Mystique - always a favourite of mine in this series - gets a much meatier role, likely due to being played by Oscar-winning actress and star of last year's highest grossing film, Jennifer Lawrence. And even the character many of us comic fans were dreading, Quicksilver, was actually done really well, and provided some of the film's biggest laughs.

And if some of the storytelling is a bit scattershot, by the time we click into the endgame and the stakes get higher and higher, your heart will be in your mouth. And you realise just how much you've become invested in this world and its characters over the years. The closing scenes were wonderful, and left me with a big smile on my face. Right now I'm still inclined to think I liked FIRST CLASS a little more, but I really enjoyed this, and a repeat viewing of each film may change my mind on that.

Agreed. Fox is in a good spot, to make the X-Men nice and gritty compared to Marvel's movies. The thing with Sony is, that they need to get rid of Avi Arad. To be honest the entire Spider-Man franchise should just revert back to Marvel.

Glad you people are liking the movie.

18 hrs to go for me.

Just got back from seeing DOFP. It gets a 9/10 from me.:applaud:up:

Good acting, great action set pieces (yes, Quicksilver really rocks!) and an ending that rather nicely establishes the potential for Apocalypse.

Though i must say i did wish we got more scenes from the 2023 setting. Storm barely had any lines at all but she does have one nice big display of power.
We did get Azazel and Angels [BLACKOUT]pictures dead from experiments when Mystique is in Trask building[/BLACKOUT] and Emma [BLACKOUT]was mentioned with all of them in the plane scene as dead and Magneto said that which was different from that clip we got before movie came out[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]I could have sworn one of the future sentinels briefly went into diamond form amongst other things? Those things were scary.:([/BLACKOUT]

It's been a long day so it's time for some zzzzzs for me.

What i forgot to mention..... QuickSilver is freaking awsome. I really really liked him. To bad the also was a little part of the movie. But we get to see him again in Apocalypse.

One of the many things i really enjoyed was the fact this didn't have massive explosions in the 3rd act.

so it was only azazel and angel in the pictures?, I wonder if they kept it open for a reason

Maybe Eric only thinks the rest are dead

I guess I know that now.

My own fault, I'll just stick to RT thread. Of course people are saying things when they're excited.

I haven't seen the Movie yet, so I don't know if there's actually the possibility, but I hope a number of mutants that were presumed dead, are just captives of Apocalypse. I really don't like hearing how several mutants with potential have just been killed off, which was probably just a result of trying to save screen time.

We dont know to be honest. It is not really clear where some are.
That is the one thing i disliked. So much made more sense from the ot trilogy. But some characters from FC are not in. And no idea where they are. Dont know if they are dead. Or just left.

Well, with the X-Men Apocalypse movie potentially introducing young Jean, Scott and Storm; Gambit; Nightcrawler; and Apocalypse and his four horsemen; and bringing back all the others - I wouldn't imagine we will see some of those other First Class characters again.

I also don't know what they will do with Havok, Toad, Ink and Spyke. And what about Scarlet Witch - will we see her next time?
