Not necessarily. He could end up getting his Adamantium from another source coughApocalypsecough.

Nope, never was an X-Men fan. Nor a Fantastic Four fan either, but I'm more familiar with them. Stan Lee ensured that I'd never be an X-Men fan when he chose to just make them all mutants because it would be easier. That just seemed lazy to me in comparison to stuff like the Avengers. And I think that's one of the reasons why the X-Men in film is unlikely to ever have the mass appeal as the Avengers. For the most part they're a group of characters who the GA doesn't know enough about or care all that much about. The only 3 characters we really know in any sizable way are Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto. The rest are completely disposable even if they've had a lot of screen time(like Storm). The X-Men franchise suffers from too many characters spread to thinly to ever give a **** about any of them.

I'm in the same boat as you. I mentioned before how it's been hard for me to get interested in this series because everyone is born with these powers, they're not acquired and that inherently takes away compelling story telling opportunities ..... it also leads to some really corny mutants (I mean Angel Salvadore anyone?). Fassbender has been the highlight for me as of late (especially his portrayal in X:FC), but the rest don't do it for me. Wolverine has been over-exposed, as is the Magneto/Xavier relationship.

I find it interesting that Wolverine will again have no memory from past events. Once his consciousness woke up in 2023, the old consciousness in 1973 will not have any memory of future events, or even past events. He'll wake up with no memory of what happened the last couple days in 1973.

A day after seeing it, am I'm still as in love with this film has when I saw it.

It was the best time I had at the theaters since seeing Spider-Man 2 as an 11 year old kid.

Not saying DOFP is better than TDK but for me, we've had good Batman films. As a kid I loved the 89 film and Returns, along with the Shoemaker ones as a kid. Ive had good Batman films. I never saw a Spidey film until Spider-Man 2 and I just loved that film.

I've seen all the X-Men films but the only ones I find good are X2 & the first 2/3rds of the Wolverine. The rest range from ok to bad.

This was the 3rd I've seen a X-Men film in theaters. Saw The Wolverine & First Class but this film felt like "yes, this is the X-Men." We finally saw some X-Men level action that hasn't but done on film as well as a good story and great performances.

I just can't get over how good this film is. Best Marvel film hands down and that's no disrespect to Spidey 2, Cap 2, Iron Man, and Avengers because they are great but this film was just so epic.

I think it makes for great compelling storyline opportunities. How mutants deal with their powers as children, how their families view them, what their place is in a world among humans, etc. The mutants are my favourite part of Marvel. I think bringing up a post from over 5 pages back to talk about how the series doesn't interest you is kind of weird to do in a rate and review thread for a movie that is part of the series that you don't like.

Ya, my bad for not sitting by the computer all day and all night so that I could respond to Kedrell immediately after he posted.

The thing is, all of them have felt shamed for being a mutant or treated unfairly. So that is why there isn't much differentiation. Albeit like I said, Fassbenders WW2 child Magneto was great. All the others, not so much.

At least I'm reading all of these reviews and keeping an open mind like I said before when I mentioned I'd actually go see this after previously not wanting to at all.

I can't believe I heard this, but among the pre-movie chattering in my second viewing of DOFP was a guy in the row behind who said 'If they have that girl who grows wings in this one, I'm gonna lose it and throw my chair at the screen.'

For that blame Matthew Vaughn. He was as chick-obssessed as Singer is man-focused in these movies. It'd be good to strike a balance!

That's good. I still don't see why you have to comment about not liking X-Men in general in a rate and review thread for a specific movie. I'm sure there's a thread where you can comment about the series as a whole.

But Kedrell made his comment in here.

LOL ..... that's hilarious.

Movie is average for me. 6/10.

+ Great seeing members of the original cast in action even if they weren't given much to work with (the scenes with Storm and Magneto had me smiling like a little school girl)
+ Looking forward to Apocolypse
+ Quicksilver has some entertaining moments
+ 70s sentinels cool in action

- Future sentinels were grossly overpowered
- Kitty's second mutation seemed silly and forced (especially with Professor X being present)
- Jennifer's Mystique is sub-par compared to Rebecca's Mystique
- The serum (this is the third X-Men movie involving some kind of serum. enough already.)
- Original cast underused
- 70s Magneto's ability to control Sentinels using train railings (seriously?)
- The human vs. mutant angle is getting old. More mutant on mutant action, please.
- Henry McCoy "Hulk" effect
- Why is Mystique the key to the grossly overpowered future sentinels? She can only mimic appearances, not abilities. Darwin or Rogue make more sense.

The movie is a bit underwhelming to me, but I still have hope for the next installment. I'm hoping we get Storm, Jean and Cyclops in the next film.

Yea the thing is, if the events in this films 73 changed the worlds outlook on mutants to a more positive one, what is the need of Xavier's school? What is the need of the Weapon X program?

It has left some puzzling questions.

Apocalpyse is going to restore balance

Just got back from seeing it. This may be my new favorite of 2014. I didn't think this would live up to the hype but it completely did

I can understand your points even though they don't affect my score as much as they did for you.

Regarding the OT cast, they're clearly trying to hand over the franchise to the First Class cast, hence saying beforehand it was 30% future and 70% past. I'd have liked more from the OT cast but went in with the expectations of the 30/70 thing. And I think the future cast all worked well; only Bishop felt underused, especially with Omar Sy in the role.

It does feel, though, a little like two films pushed into one. The dystopia could have been a film in itself.

Hopefully Bishop returns for Apocalypse. He does play a major role in Age of Apocalypse after all.

I'm just trying to picture Erik walking around the plane, picking all the non-metal stuff he couldn't use his powers to pick up. :funny:

That was awesome too. I loved that there was actually a reference to the First Class cameo.

I also loved Beast offering the phone book when they realized they couldn't use Cerebro. :funny:

Speaking of Beast, I cracked up when he mentioned 3 networks on TV and Logan says something like, "wow, three whole networks".

This film had the best humor out of the entire series as far as I'm concerned.

I think its one of the best comic book films ever made , and I'd put it up there with The Dark Knight, Superman 78, Spiderman 2, and The Avengers. Its certainly the definitive X Men film for me. Everything that is the essence of the X Men myths and saga is in XMDOFP. Its like 50 years of the X Men captured on screen from the 90's Cartoon ,to the Singer films, to the comics of the 70's and 80s , to XFC, with real drama and real heart.

I was surprised (pleasantly so) at just how "comic booky" it was. They embraced quite a few of the more weird/out there sci-fi traits from the comics, and some of the clichés as well.

OK,after a second viewing this goes up to a 9/10.
FANTASTIC movie.

TWS/DOFP 9
TASM2 8

Getting my third viewing in 2 hours.

Lots of credit to the villains...the future sentinels were as effective as the T-1000 only there were more of them! They were genuinely frightening, unstoppable machines.

I saw the movie twice on Saturday and I liked it for the most part.
Positives:
I loved the past scenes. James Mcavoy held it all together for me. He was amazing. I loved that they continued to explore his relationships with Erik and Raven. Glad they had him acknowledge some of the mistakes he made with her that made her easy target for Erik.

I enjoy fassneto as always. He looked cool and badass. The amazing chemistry between Mcfassy continues to put shame to all else.

Loved Raven's character development and how she was trying to be her own woman. Thank goodness for Jlaw's star power. Hopefully, they don't get her back to being henchwoman.

Loved Quicksilver. As much as people complained about his outfit, at least it wasn't just black uniform, it showed his personality and style at that time, fit his age and his power was effectively displayed and was not downplayed or ignored like most other characters in these movies.

Negatives:
Action scenes felt slow and wasn’t as cool as they could have been. I was more impressed with CATWS action scenes than I was action scenes that involved the freaking Sentinels and mutants with Superpowers. I don't think that is good mark for the movie. I think Singer just like Nolan sucks at them and it didn’t help that the Sentinels were way overpowered and our heroes way too under powered.

Downgraded power displays for Storm,
Colossus and Warpath. Warpath can fly (and has no excuse that he was 5 months pregnant), has super speed and super strength according to his character bio Fox released but in this movie he doesn't fly, he doesn't use his speed and you don’t get any sense that he is strong. He just used those knives and he came across useless against the Sentinels. Why even bother using him.

I know the situation is supposed to be hopeless in the future and the Sentinels are too powerful but couldn't our heroes at least take down 1, 2 or 3 before they all got killed. The fights were way too one sided. Singer as usually is throwing too many mutants at us without using them effectively. I didn't expect the future guys to get any character developments although they could have gotten a little character moments but they weren't even effective against the Sentinels.

I didn't feel any sad for the deaths. Just tiny bit for Storm.
The future was too dark literally and blue color use was too much.
8/10

Hahaha, I think you mean Storm.

As for the Sentinels in the future. I liked that they were that powerful. How else would they take out the mutants around the world and cause the future to be so bleak.

My problem was with the Sentinels in the past. I didn't like that Magneto was the one who controlled them. I wanted to see some action like from the comics and the cartoon to be honest.

No, he was saying WARPATH has no excuse, because HE wasn't five months pregnant, unlike Berry who was and was unable to do flying stunts.
