Going in to X-Men: Days of Future Past my question was,can director Bryan Singer return to the X-Men
franchise as a director and produce an entertaining film, with a time tripping story taken from a 1981 Marvel Comic?
The answer is:YES !!!!
Jumping back and forth between a bleak future in which robots called Sentinels, hunt down and jail in concentration
camps mutants, humans that may produce mutants, and mutant sympathisers, and the past 1973 to be exact,in which a climatic event lead to the aforementioned future.
Singer wisely uses the time travel theme to rev up the suspense, but it's always tricky to use time travel in any genre.
In this film it does lead to some plot holes and unanswered questions.
Another wise move by Singer is carrying over the
Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto dynamic from X-Men First Class. Each role in the film is well acted by the primary players, but with a cast this big and a running time of 130 minutes, some characters get short changed.
Sometimes it's a good thing to be proven wrong.Case and point:the character Quicksilver .At first glance a few months ago i thought the look of the character was terrible and cheesy...well he still looked cheesy but fortunately the character actually steals every scene that he's in which are quite fun and amusing.
From some reports it sounds like the next X-Men big screen adventure will be one of the biggest and most ambitious yet,and with my faith in Singer restored i say: Bring it on !!!!
Scale of 1-10 an 8½
