Official Rock Band 2 thread

No Doubt Singles Collection confirmed for 2 weeks from now.

Also...Chinese Democracy please. If you're listening Harmonix, make it happen!

I've been playing alot of RB2 this past Thanksgiving weekend, and even got my wife interested (she's learning the guitar controller slowly). I'm getting better at the Medium difficulty, and even gotten 5 stars out of "Living on a Prayer" (which is probably my favorite song in this game). As soon as I received my 360 adapter, I'll be downloading RB1 song list into my RB2 game, and I'm eyeing several DLCs, such as Foo Fighter's "My Hero" and "Monkey Wrench", The Killer's "Mr. Brightside", and many others. I'm a bit tired of having to play some of the songs already and I really need to expand the RB2 song list asap.

is it better to get the whole RB2 bundle and just get the disk for World Tour or do the opposite? because i heard the problems with the drums with the World Tour drums.

That's what I would do. You can actually find Rock Band 2 in stores. GHWT is difficult to find (band kit at least). Even if the RB2 drums don't work, Harmonix is much better to deal with for repairs.

yeah but my family doesn't even hasle with going to stores now, they get everything online i find it much better because you could get some better deals on certain things.

Even online the WT band kit is hard to find. Especially for it's $190 price tag.

I don't have GHWT, but I like RB2's instruments and I can get more songs with RB2 + RB1 + DLC, so I'm not regretting buying the RB2 bundle. I will buy GHWT game disc eventually, if I can find a good deal on Ebay.

I got my guitar with GH3, but I've found I prefer RB to GH in general. I'm glad you can use GH guitars with RB2, which I currently have from Gamefly, but I think I'm gonna buy RB2 and rent RB1 to rip all the tracks. I'm in the process of doing the tour on medium and switching characters to earn money for each character so I can make a whole band that looks the way I want them to.

I found out a list of downloadable songs for RB1 & RB2 on Wiki. Looks like I'm going have to spend alot of money getting those songs.

They do have a lot of really good tracks for both. I didn't check the track list before I started playing RB2, so I damn near fell over when I got AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock" in a mystery setlist. One of my absolute favorite songs of all time.

I'm glad the DLC for RB1 also works with RB2, and this makes the DLC for GHWT pales in comparison, although they have exclusives that I wish RB will have. That's why getting both games is still the way to go if you want all the good songs.

Yeah, the Who's all over Rock Band 1 and 2. "Baba O'Riley" is pretty fun.

According to that Wiki page, it says the possible and unconfirmed DLC included Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit & Come As You Are, which I hope will happen because these are two of my favorite songs from Nirvana. The guitar solo on both songs will be a blast.

so did anyone take part in the tenacious d event tonight?

Don't do that. Buy it used at GameStop and then return it a few days later and say something like you found your copy that you thought you lost or your friend gave you his. That's what I'm doing.

is it worth it buying it used, i don't even remember all of the tracks that were on the original RB..

So is getting it from Gamefly, technically. I'm paying a monthly rate, so the number of games I rent in that month doesn't matter. I'm just gonna get RB1, rip the tracks, and send it back for the next thing on my list the next day.

I thought you'd rent from a store like Blockbuster.

I'll be doing that method b/c there's no place near me that rents video games. Even renting movies has become bad. There was a good store near me but they changed ownership. It used to be it's own building but now it's in a strip mall and a hole-in-the-wall compared to what it used to be.

That sucks. You might want to look into Gamefly if you rent a lot of games. I found that there were tons of games I'd be okay with renting but would never buy, so Gamefly worked out pretty well for me. And if the monthly fee bugs you, just consider that you'd be able to keep a game for about three months before it starts exceeding the price it would've cost to buy it new. I can't think of many games I'd be playing for over three months.

I want to get DLC right away, but at $1.99 it's a bit steep once you want to purchase many songs, like I want to do. I might purchase 5 songs first, then buy the rest slowly. Right now, I'm leaning toward songs like Foo Fighter's "My Hero" and "Monkey Wrench", The Killer's "Mr. Brightside", 30 Second to Mars' "The Kill", and STP's "Sex Type Thing". If I get all the songs I want, though, it'd be more than 25 songs and I'll be broke.

I'm holding off on buying new songs until I start unlocking some of the more challenging ones in the tour. The only ones I've bought so far are ones I've needed for Battle of the Bands challenges.

It's cool that they have a few free novelty songs, though. Stephen Colbert's "Charlene (I'm Right Behind You)" and Jonathan Coulton's "Still Alive" from Portal, specifically--both awesome but really short.
