Official Rulk Thread

Sad. I flipped through a Witchblade comic out of morbid curiosity the other day. They've apparently upped the ante by giving the original Witchblade chick a kid and getting a new Witchblade chick who's even more scantily clad. Oh, and blonde this time--I guess so you can tell them apart, since artists on Witchblade tend not to be good at silly things like giving characters individualistic features.

Wow, I'm actually surprised at the progression there. I guess that's something.

Because Loeb = suck.

That's an opinion and all, but damn...It'd be a lot stronger if you actually read his recent work, you know? Basing a writer's suckitude on word of mouth summaries can only get you so far, dude.

His less-recent-but-still-recent-enough work convinced me not to read his more recent work. I wouldn't read Winick's recent work either, even though he's supposedly gotten better too.

Does that mean ALL of his work from here on out is going to suck, though? I mean, Jesus, dude. A few bad eggs and it's the kiss of death with some people.

No, it doesn't mean everything he writes is going to suck from here on out. I'm just not willing to give him a chance unless it's some extreme circumstances. I'm not interested enough in anything in the new Hulk series to get me over the considerable hump of my distaste for Loeb. I'm not particularly interested in anything in the new Hulk series at all, to be honest.

Really? If Ross stays onboard as a permanent cast member, that's enough for me to keep coming back. I love that ***hole.

Eh, he's all right. I liked him more when Sam Elliott played him. Mostly because I like Sam Elliott.

Me too. I read a review somewhere for The Golden Compass that just ripped him to shreds. It was pretty bad. :(

Whatever, that guy's mustache is more of a cowboy than most real life cowboys.

So is the awesome head of awesome silver hair he's got. Any man would be lucky to have those locks.

Yes. And that voice. I could sit and listen to him talk about anything for hours.

So I'm gonna buy Hulk #1 after all. I'm curious, and I heard the WordBalloon interview with Loeb.

What the hell did Loeb--someone who's work you hate--say to convince you to pick it up that a lot of us here on the Hype didn't say?

Nothing. I'd been thinking of looking at it for a while, and I realized it's been longer than I thought since I gave Loeb another chance.

Loeb is still a good writer IMO. I didn't read his Wolverine run, so I could give a ****, but I won't, and Ultimates has always sucked so meh.

He gushes over Bendis and Millar way too much in the Wordballoon interview. It's pretty gross, but also kind of informative about his writing, if those guys are the writers he admires so much.

That's unreal if you take your previous comments about Loeb and this book in particular into consideration.

If you can actually read the book with an open mind (something 99% of fanboys cannot do) you'll enjoy it.

I lied earlier. Loeb was talking about his fondness for straight-up popcorn action flicks of the Bruckheimer variety. I applied that to the Hulk and thought, "Hey, that doesn't sound too bad." Plus, he was talking about The Long Halloween later, which reminded me of how good he could be (but rarely is anymore). So hopefully I'll try to keep those in mind when I read it today.

Every writer does that now, it's their meal ticket.

Yeah, he talked about how much money Bendis makes. I guess he's fishing for a little kickback.
