Official Rulk Thread

So I fully expect HULK to drop in sales dramatically and Skaar to be the best selling book next month with all the complaining here right?:o
Uh, I guess you can if you want to. I never even remotely implied that, though. I'm looking forward to Skaar and I've dropped Loeb's Hulk because I thought it sucked, but my preferences have a pretty bad record of matching those of the larger audience.

Just read an interview about Red Hulk on IGN and this bit pissed me off to no end.

Hulk gives us a new red version of the character and book with a Hulk that's absolutely uninhibited, tactically intelligent and on a crash course with his (or her...or its) past.

Isn't that EXACTLY what Green Scar Hulk was?! Really, we had this kick-ass Gladiator King Hulk, then poof! Marvel gives us Red Hulk, and the real Hulk goes back to the ho-hum "Hulk Smash! Hulk Angry!" days.

Maybe their reconning planet hulk and world war hulk like they did before with that nightmare arc.......

Yeah red hulk is basically an evil version of green scar hulk. Though a controlled hulk would i guess eliminate the purpose of the comics. Whats the point of banner finding a cure when hes got the control hes always wanted.

Dude, we've had an uncontrolled hulk for like 40 years man! Enough already, let's try something different, isnt it about time that Banner finally gained control of himself?? how much longer are the Hulk books gonna be about finding a cure that he'll never find? Think about it, a controlled Hulk would be so much more interesting than a mindless beast. It could create a much more mature and interesting story dynamic. This is what pisses me off about marvel, they're so afraid of progression man, they'd rather rehash the same thing over and over and over again. They regressed Spiderman and I wonder how long Tony's gonna remain director of shield? I give it another year. Anyway, they really need to do something different with Hulk, cause its getting kind of ridiculous by now.

They did make a controlled Hulk. Doc samson and Ringmaster merged Gray, green and Banner personalities into "Professor Hulk." He was the Hulk status quo for years, but that persona has since been retconned into being yet another divergent personality. There have also been several versions of "Hulk with Banner's brain" over the years.

Anything else you feel like whining about?

I didnt forget about professor Hulk, i miss him, that was a cool status quo for hulk. They shoulda kept it that way. Wouldnt you prefer that over the same mindless beast from the 60's?

That seems unlikely given that Planet Hulk was a commercial and critical success, and World War Hulk was at least a commercial success. The Nightmare arc retconned Bruce Jones' run, which was neither critically nor commercially successful past its first year or so.

i like the old bash and trash hulk. it was like watching an action movie in the 80's. you would get some funny lines, stuff would blow up and in the end half the city was toast, but the good guy won over the over the top enemy

I'd prefer Mr. Fixit again, to be perfectly honest. I think we could use some solid flippant, *****ebaggy gray Hulk action right about now.

I don't know. I'm still holding out for the day where the heroes are true heroes again. Not that I don't like the current status quo or anything, but I'd like to see the MU get back to straight up superheroics. If that ever happens, I'd love to see the Professor come back.

The Professor would be great in that atmosphere, but I don't see him or that status quo coming back anytime soon. I believe Joe Q said it was a specific goal of Civil War to get the heroes to a place where they're not so nice to each other. He probably thinks it distinguishes Marvel from DC somehow, even though there's plenty of hero infighting over there, too.

The era of Bill Mantlo ( :csad: ) and Sal Buscema's run (savage hulk) is my favorite version... but i like the fact that the character can be subject to different interpretations.

When did that ever happen?

When did what ever happen?

Yeah, I don't forsee that status quo returning either, but I can still dream, right? ;)

Mr. Fixit is the incarnation that I'm the least familiar with. It seems the oddest, too. I can understand the Savage Hulk being pure, unbridled fury and the Professor as having more of Banner's intellect creeping in, but Mr. Fixit? There's a persona in Banner's pysche that resembles a mid-level Italian mobster? Weird.

Fixit is basically Banner's adolescent rage. The savage Hulk is childlike in his anger, going off on whatever's in front of him but ultimately forgetting about it as soon as it's gone. Fixit is intelligent enough to be petty and spiteful and hold grudges, just like a teenager.

Mr.Fixit wasnt a "Persona" in Banner's psyche.....Mr.Fixit was an "Alias" for the Grey Hulk persona.

The Gray Hulk represented the more baser instincts of Bruce Banner,he is the physical representation of Bruce Banner's adolescence. That is why the gray Hulk posesses a selfish sarcastic attitude- a somewhat typical teenager from hell attitude. He's not as smart as Banner but he's far more craftier and underhanded than Banner.

The Grey Hulk is also the First Hulk.
