He has been working on the script and we haven't.
And that's what worries me the most, lol. He's a great director but he (and Walsh & Boyens) is lacking in the screenwriting department. IMO. And it shows in his latest films.

While I think the third film was definitely greenlit by WB to stretch the profit margin I don't really think this is going to affect the movie creatively as Jackson wanted three movies from the start apparently.

I've loved everything I've seen. It's clear that Jackson is getting material from appendices and even some stuff from The Silmarillion & Unfinished Tales (even though apparently they didn't have the rights for that but the picture of the meeting seems to indicate otherwise).

I honestly have no problem with this ancillary narrative being adapted to enrich the mythos. In fact I welcome it.

Oh, I know I'm completely over reacting. But I was already annoyed that they were splitting up the films in 2 parts just to make money. Three was just too much. Now this release date is just the last straw sort of deal for me.

I'll catch em at home. Highly doubt they'll miss my money anyway. :whatever:

Did you stop to consider that because of this, there's a good chance that X-Men: Days of Future Past might come out BEFORE July 18th, 2014?

The White Council does get a mention in the Appendices of RotK though, I don't think they need the rights to the other books in order to use it.

Yay! A crappy cartoon from the Seventies! Because that's the same thing!
Why am I even asking for a decent budgeted, live-action take of the story, when I've already got that masterpiece of a motion picture.

Seriously what is your point? If someone already made a ****ty movie about one of your favorite books, just shut up and keeping watching that one if you don't like the direction the new one is taking?

That would be terrible. This is the first time EVER that an X-Men film not only has a prime release date, but actually has more than enough production time. The last thing I want is another rushed film to meet a release date.

The Hobbit doesn't want to open against X-Men just as much as X-Men doesn't want to open up against The Hobbit. This is just a case of the bigger kid on the playground hoping to get his way. They want July 18ths (because they didn't plan ahead and have zero Summer 2014 tent pole ready) so they figured they'll just take X-Men's date, and Fox will be forced to move.

I'm aware but they seem to be going into details covered by Unfinished Tales and TS.

Hollywood is a business, and July is a prime month. WB isn't going to say "Oh, well, go right ahead Fox. We'll just pick another month." WB needs a tentpole and here is the film to put there. Film's go head to head every summer. I see no reason why this is any different.

This is precisely why FOX shouldn't move.

And no one is saying they should, and there is no indication they will. This isn't an issue, and certainly isn't worth getting worked up over.

I highly doubt WB isn't expecting Fox to move. As much as they know they will come out on top, they still wouldn't want to sacrifice some of their audience. They don't want to open up against X-Men, and they have the confidence that Fox will move, because as it stands they're the more popular/anticipated property.

I really don't think WB is worried about opening against X-Men. First Class was a good film, but not that great. I know plenty had issues with it. Not saying their wont be a sizeable crowd going to see it, but I think when it comes down to it WB know that LOTR fans will choose The Hobbit over X-Men. As will all the people burnt out on superhero films who are looking for fantasy. I just don't think X-Men will do the Hobbit that much damage. Its a competion and may the best win. If Fox is worried they will move as is their choice. If not, they can stay where they are. WB on the other hand has absolutely no reason to move. This isn't about being courteous. It may have been a dick move on WB's part, but you don't get to where that studio is without making these choices.

I agree with you, even though First Class turned out to be great even with a speedy production. However, if it forced Fox to move it up a few weeks, I'm sure it wouldn't make much of a difference in the production schedule.

Id take First Class over Two Towers and Return of the King. Yeah that's right I said it. Not Fellowship though, that movie is just perfect

Well, yes. As I said, WB knows they would win. But that's besde the point. They would still be opening against another big movie of a similar genre. No one wants that, not even WB. They have every assumption that Fox is going to move.

On whole "it was a dick move by WB to release Hobbit on the same day as X-Men", really it's just business. Certain dates are very important to studios and they will always try to release their blockbusters during that time. Look at how Avengers already has the MAy 1st 2015.
Plus WB didn't have a summer blockbuster for 2014

X-Men films are quite frontloaded and open reasonably well. I bet most people here want to see both & maybe they won't be able to opening weekend now. As for dates being important, yes & a large part of that is to do with when school is out and when the competition is. If you're opening same day as another film that is expected to open well you have the wrong date whether you're Avengers, TDK or Star Wars.

Heh, with the amount that people are crying on here, a picture of him would likely set this thread aflame because his beard is an inch too short.

I thought perhaps you'd prefer that to 'Jackson's crappy fan fiction', since you're already so certain of the quality of the upcoming films.
I never said that though. I'm sure the movie will be good, because I do think Jackson is a good filmmaker.
However, I'm still skeptic about the idea of splitting a short story in three long epic movies and adding random subplots and characters (e.g. the Nazgûl crypts). That's all.

Not as long as he looks good. In fact, the Trolls and Thranduil got nothing but praises.
It was just those damn Dwarves. :argh:

Do you think that the length of Beorn's beard is an issue with a bearing on the integrity of the movies equivalent to stretching three hours of material over three films?

I don't understand why people bother to type that sort of thing.

I was being sarcastic. There's very little that I've seen here that I would consider to be valid arguments/complaints, especially within the last page or two. I think you are one of the few posters whom while I disagree with, I still recognize your issues as being perfectly valid. Not many other posters, however.

Just read and wanted to add that Fox is aiming to release Avatar 2 on December 2014. Id say that is a big part of why WB chose a summer release for part 3. Itd be crazy to go up against a Cameron film.
