Do you really think that made any difference in the outcome?
Oh balls no, and I don't give one flipping **** that Chael lost, much less two.

But it's a pretty bull**** thing to do, typically reserved as the eternal rookie mistake, of which Anderson certainly is not one. So to deliberately violate the rules for an amount of time that can't be written off as a "panic move," then go out and play up the "honorable warrior" image is pretty pathetic.

I love how this fight is becoming the second version of Anderson vs. Hendo. People keep talking about the first round like it mattered. "OMG Anderson got taken down and mounted! I can't wait until he fights a real wrestler!" Lol

Like I predicted. Sonnen got slaughtered once Silva stuffed his takedowns. No surprises here. Sonnen never had a chance.

"Most important fight in UFC history" -- my ass. :funny:

The hype for this fight was ridiculous, but at least it was entertaining as hell.

Wow it looked as though anderson threw an illegal knee.

I do think that the next number one contender spot should be Alan belcher vs blank(winner of Munoz/Weidman).

Also if chael continues to fight, give him belfort.

Plus bisping is in there too so idk.

I hope this has been addressed, since he didn't throw an illegal knee. Caught Sonen in the chest/stomach. Nothing illegal about it.

this fight was exactly like hendo fight and i think the rib injury really was real in the first fight

just look at round 1 of first fight and first round of rematch

in the ufc 117 bout chael hit him alot of times clean on the chin over and over again

in the rematch anderson locked chael down and chael was only hitting pitter patter shots just like hendo

then second round he got starched lol

How many wrestlers must silva beat for you people to realize there is no blue print??

Silva/Sonnen - UFC 117

Eh, for me it's still:

Fedor > Ando

Silva killing Sonnen wasn't a big deal. The win over Hendo was a much larger accomplishment.

i think 10 title defenses,15-0 ufc record,actually older than fedor,ko a champ in a higher weight class

puts him over fedor easily

Fedor defended his title like 3 times. Silva defended it more over a similar timespan as Fedor against tougher competition.

^pretty much and fedor fans hang on too much to the past

fedor has 4 great wins

Big Nog x2,Cro Cop,Arlovski

while anderson has

Hendo
Franklin x2
Chael x2
Belfort
Griffin
Okami
Marquardt

Hendo - former Pride, Strikeforce champion, won UFC tournament, beat Fedor
Franklin - former UFC champion
Chael - pushed Silva to the limit like no other
Belfort - former UFC champion, won UFC tournament
Griffin - former UFC champion
Okami - 10-2 in UFC when they fought
Marquardt - former King of Pancrase

...And Silva fans clutch onto the current shambles that is the UFC Middleweight division.

I'm sorry but wins over Sonnen, Leites, Okami, Maia, Irvin, Lutter and Cote don't mean diddy squat to me (just as Coleman, Fujita, Zulu, Randleman, Lindland, Rogers and Hong-Man don't mean squat to you).

It's really that simple. You could hype up Sonnen all you want but the fact remains Chael was just a one-dimensional wrestler who talked his way into a second title shot.

If you don't see the difference between the likes of Chael Sonnen and Yushin Okami and the likes of HONG MAN FREAKING CHOI whose only freaking MMA wins are Bobby Olgun and Jose Canseco than there is no helping you Doomsday.

I wouldn't sell Chael short. He got noticed because of his mouth, but he's really grown from being a mediocre journeyman to a legit, elite fighter in his division. Beating Okami and Marquardt wad very impressive. Plus Stann and Bisping aren't slouches. Rib injury or not he's the only guy in a long time to make Anderson look human. I think it's the extra testosterone that's changed him.

It still doesn't help the fact that the Middleweight division has been the shallowest division in MMA for years.

Middleweight division in UFC is actually quite competitive right there and there are a lot of good fighters in there. Just that Anderson Silva is the greatest MMA fighter to ever live and no one can beat him yet.

While his pacing and wrestling are impressive, Sonnen's climb up the rankings was not arduous. He might have smothered Silva in their first fight but Ando offered no resistance. Saturday night was a completely different story. Silva kept Sonnen at half-guard for nearly three minutes. Chael couldn't muster any offense while he was on top. Silva controlled him.

In the second round, Silva stepped it up and stuffed two of his takedowns, and was obliterated shortly after.

Yes, alot of good fighters... not great fighters. That's the point. There's absolutely no one that could provide Ando with a legitimate challenge. Lombard could be an interesting match-up but he's yet to even win his UFC debut.

All that's left for Silva is Bisping, Stann and Munoz. Hardly impressive. It's time for Silva to fight Jones or GSP.

but chael is no can and is a great win chael is universally the #2

with wins over

okami
marquardt
stann
bisping

and jones at lhw is any better?

rampage just lost to bader and 4-4 in last 8
machida is 1-4 in last 3
shogun is 4-4 in ufc and is reduced to fighting brandon vera

and not even mention silva destroyed hendo who is jones next fight who is like 43 lol

Bisping is an overrated TUF graduate, Okami is a journeyman, Marquardt (fantastic fighter... when not placed on the spotlight) folds/chokes and Stann's biggest win was over Leben.

Silva's stock rises significantly with a win over a P4P champion. That's all that matters.

Silva said he wants no part of Jones so that fight won't happen for a while.
