great title fight gil is and has always been legit he gave ben his toughest fight

They're both set to collide in Q4 of 2013 if they both win their respective bouts. I don't see that as a long way off.

It is a long way off. If Pettis wins the featherweight title he will have to defend that belt. Too many guys battling it out to fight for featherweight title.

Close fight, but I disagree with the decision. I had it 48-47 Melendez.

I had it 48-47, Bendo.

But I think both guys fought too conservatively.

I had it for Bendo. I believe he won rounds 2, 3, and 4. Gil clearly won the first and fifth rounds though.

Unfortunately, I gave it to Bendo too (three rounds to two). I think Melendez took his foot off the gas pedal in the fourth round and it cost him.

Gilbert will likely get an immediate rematch though.

Winner of Maynard/Grant already getting next shot.

Melendez was close to getting that victory. He shocked me with how good his performance was.

Cormier’s fight was dreadful.

Diaz getting killed was amazing.

Mein vs. Brown was awesome.

Yeah, Brown is an absolute BEAST! Dude always brings it. Mein has a bright future too, can't believe the kid is only 23. Brown just didn't give him room to breathe.

Bendo has all the luck with these decisions, I had it 3 round to 2 in favour of Gilbert.

The fight was far, far, far closer than I anticipated.

Outside of two fights that was a great card. I had Bendo by the slightest of margins over Melendez, so I understand how Gil could have gotten the nod. That fight was so close that either guy winning was sound.

The judge who scored it for Melendez has trained under Cesar Gracie and also scored round 4 to Melendez, IMHO a clear round for Henderson.

Yeah, I was pretty confident Bendo had rounds 2, 3, and 4 in his pocket. And I'm not really a fan of Bendo. I was rooting for Melendez. But he was rarely doing anything. He kept waiting for Bendo to press the attack. In championship bouts, judges tend to lean toward the champion. You have to rip that title away from the champion, if you want to win. Gil seemed like he tired pretty early in the fight. And I do not know why that camp does not check leg kicks.

I know. It was a close fight and Melendez had his shot in the fourth to put pressure on Henderson but he was too damn conservative. That's on him though and he's probably kicking himself for not taking a few more risks in the fourth.

A portion of fans are criticizing Cormier but I thought he fought smart. Daniel made sure Mir never got into rhythm with his boxing and he forced him against the fence (where he smothered him). Cormier didn't attempt to takedown Mir either. He made sure that Frank never established any type offense.

Melendez took his foot off the gas and he knows it.

When fighters try to fight conservatively and play it safe in close fights like this, IMHO they only have themselves to blame. I am more impressed by the fighter who fights every second of the round and tries to take the round back.

I mean in Pettis/Henderson, Pettis knew the fight was pretty close and he knew he had to do something big and make a statement in order to take the last round and he went for the Showtime Kick and got it. Sometimes you got to take the risks when you have everything on the line. This is a title fight at stake, who knows when you will ever get a title opportunity again.

I don't blame the guy for going with something that works, but I think that he could have been more aggressive in the clinch. He was really putting a hurting on Mir in the first, but he didn't do much more of that throughout the rest of the fight. Maybe he broke his hand or something, but I think he left some aggression out there.

He also has talked a mad amount of **** about beating Jon Jones. You don't call out someone as great as Jon Jones and not expect backlash when you don't have a great, dominant performance. Jon Jones is a destroyer of worlds. That's like calling out Goro and then barely getting by Stryker. Styles make fights, but the fans get restless at times when you talk a big game.

If there's a frightening prospect out there for Jones, it's Cormier. He's an Olympic caliber wrestler with very good cardio and above average knock out power. He's also a smart guy (heard his IQ is above 125). Sure, he didn't 'kill' Mir, but you'd be pressed NOT to call his performance dominant. Daniel closed the distance remarkably quick and pinned Mir up against the fence where he pummeled him for 2.5 rounds (assuring that Mir barely mustered any offense). It was 'safe' but he made damn certain that Frank never became a threat to me.

Eh, is it any different than Jones talking **** about Cain (Cormier's good friend and teammate)?

i never saw this thread before. i'm slowly getting into UFC thanks to my cousins

When did Jon Jones talk **** about Cain? I know he's said that he can beat heavyweights, but I haven't heard him talk outright trash about him the way Cormier does. Cormier hasn't just said that he'd beat Jones. He's gone on to talk a lot of noise about him.

CC is Jon Jones' baby mama, y'all.:o

Jones specifically said that his older brother (a pro football player) could destroy Cain Velasquez. Why? No logical reason other than his other brother being the stronger wrestler when they were younger. Sounds like **** to me. Cain is too silent to say anything but Cormier isn't.

Henderson needs to cornrow that hair back. He spends so much time wiping it away from his face it's got to be a distraction.

Your dislike for Jones is really showing again. :o

I hate Tampa too but you don't hear me bashing it whenever it makes the news.

It qualifies as ****, in my opinion. You don't happen to say 'oh, my brother could beat him up easy' without subjecting yourself to criticism. I'm sure you'd label me an idiot if I said my sister would obliterate Ronda Rousey just because she's 6'1 and a DEA agent.
