I'm calling it now. Carwin's going to get busted for a banned substance if he fights.

Shane Carwin is looking at possibly returning to the Octagon after retiring 3 years ago. At 41 years old what if any positives do you see coming from him returning? He's lost twice, Brock and Dos Santos. I think that if he can still knock fools into next week, he could be fun for a few fights, but his age, his injuries over the years, is he in shape? He looks like he walks around at about 225 nowadays, compared to his peak, but there was always doubts about whether he was natural or not, especially with the steroid situation he was in awhile back. Wouldn't mind seeing him trade bombs with someone to see what he's still got. We know exactly what he is, he'll clobber heavyweights, but certainly lose to anyone in the top 10. But I suppose I don't see the harm in him coming back for a few fights.

Last time I saw a picture of Carwin I think it was from like 2015 & he looked like just a regular guy, still big obviously, I don't know if he was as low as 225 but certainly didn't look 265+ which is what he was when he was competing.

I always thought Shane would have been better if he weighed in at around 240-250 when fighting, his frame isn't the same as the likes of Lesnar's, meaning when he was weighing in at 265 it probably hurt him more than it helped.

I thought Carwin retired though because of back & knee problems?

Tyron Woodley better not avoid a fight with Stephen Thompson.

And the upsets continue.

I've seen a few places say that, was Woodley honestly that big an underdog to consider him winning an upset?

Even though Lawler I think has only been finished in 1 other contest via strikes in his career, his chin has never been what I'd call made of iron. We've seen him get hurt & wobbled a few times during his return to the UFC. He survived though simply by being tough as nails & avoiding further punishment after getting rocked.

Woodley though was always going to be a tough fight for him particularly in the opening 2-3 rounds when he has a distinct speed & explosiveness advantage over Lawler.

Tyron Woodley better not avoid a fight with Stephen Thompson.

Without question Stephen Thompson has got to be first in line. He's been arguably on a more credible winning streak than Woodley was & he was awarded a title shot against Lawler.

This Nick Diaz stuff is moronic, he is 1-3 since his return to the UFC & his last win was in 2011. In those 4 fights he's had an interim title shot vs Condit & an actual, undeserved title shot vs GSP. If Woodley gets to fight him & essentially cherry pick his first title defense for no reason other than it will potentially make him the most money, then congratulations the UFC might as well bin their own ranking system as it will have essentially become boxing. The ONLY fighter other than Stephen Thompson that Tyron Woodley should be allowed to face would be GSP if he plans on returning & returning to WW.. but truth be told, I'd rather Thompson got his shot.

There's no sense in comparing it to the likes of Bisping fighting Henderson or McGregor fighting Diaz, those are 2 different sets of circumstances IMO. Woodley shouldn't be allowed to fight Diaz... unless they can somehow fit it onto 202, then it wouldn't really matter as Thompson wouldn't have to sit on his thumb for a few months as he'd still likely get a shot when he wants ie November.

Robbie Lawler's wars might have caught up with him. Woodley is compact and quick, might be just a bad matchup at this point.

If he retires, they will just have the #1 v. #2 contenders for the belt I would guess. Like an interim title fight, except for the real belt.

Shame we never got Carwin Vs. Velasquez.

Hi, Brits have fun staying up til 5am to watch this. :funny:

So what happens if Henderson who's retiring after the fight wins?

When the fight cards are in America the usual start time of the prelims is around 1am with the main card starting at 3am. It's a Saturday night/early hours of Sunday morning though so it's not really a problem as most people just stagger home from a night out at that time.

If I recall correctly the last few times they've held events here they've started at around 8pm on the Saturday evening, however I believe I'd read they'd encountered problems/disagreements with getting it televised.

In the UK all of the UFC's events aren't PPV's like they are in the US, they are all televised on a monthly based subscription channel called BT Sport (formerly Setanta Sports & ESPN) (Which costs like £15 a month FYI), problem being that it isn't an exclusive MMA channel, they own the rights to other sporting events like Premiership/FA Cup football as well as games from other European countries some of which take part on a Saturday evening so it could potentially create a scheduling conflict for them.

I'd be very surprised though if this actually happens in England with the main card starting at 3am on a Sunday morning.

Anybody see what McGregor tweeted about the WWE & the reactions he got from some of the WWE roster? :funny:

Some of them took it all so personally, surprising as well considering that they're involved in the entertainment business you'd think they'd know when they're getting played.

It looks like Penn will return to face Lamas at UFC Manilla October 15th.

Also Belfort vs. Mousasi and Manuwa vs. OSP at UFC 204 Manchester which is obviously headlined by Bisping vs. Henderson II for the MW strap.

Dana reportedly saying Thompson is on tap for Woodley. GSP vs. Silva now?

anybody got a favorite outside the UFC that they would love to see get signed

Marlon Moraes for me i think he will be Dominick Cruz's toughest challenge

Wow.. that was pretty embarrassing for the sport on par with the Jones/Cormier brawl in the middle of the MGM hotel. Dana should have had Rumble get up & slap the **** of of McGregor, Diaz & his whole team.

I'm sure there will be fines all round for disrespect, McGregor for being late, Diaz for leaving early, then fines for both McGregor & Diaz for throwing bottles & then fines for whichever dip****s from Diaz's team thought it was smart to toss a bottle or 2 vaguely in McGregor & the stages direction & think a loose cannon like McGregor wasn't going to return it.

The whole thing was probably planned to generate more hype & PPV buys, McGregor conveniently late for media which he has said he wanted a break from, Diaz then leaving almost instantly walking round behind a barrier with his entire team standing their taunting as if they were being held back... it all seemed very WWE esque.

I hate Diaz but I think he's going to whoop Mcgregor again

That's the more likely outcome. But McG is a smart one, zero chance he's taking Diaz lightly this time

I don't think he took Diaz especially lightly the first time I think he more underestimated the weight difference & the effects of carrying extra weight in the contest would have on him.

McGregor acts like he doesn't prepare for individual fighters because they all pull out, I think that's bollocks personally. I think he does train with an opponent in mind & with the exception of Diaz he was able to alter his plans to suit his previous pull outs.

This time around with both having a camp to prepare for one another I am leaning slightly in favour of McGregor. I think he's the better & more versatile striker, if he utilises his leg, body & wide array of spin/hook kicks in addition to his boxing I think he should pick Nate apart. I don't anticipate Diaz trying to go out & intentionally grapple with him unless it somehow comes naturally in the fight, which is where I feel his weight/size & biggest advantage would be. Either way I don't think this fight will go the distance, I think either McGregor will finish Diaz or Diaz will finish McGregor. Either way it should hopefully end this 170lb nonsense for both fighters with both returning to their more natural weight classes.

Nate's biggest advantage is he takes a shot a lot better then Conor. As soon as Conor got tagged really good last time, he lost it. He went completely fake grappler trying to survive and Nate had him easily. If this turns into a war, my money is always on the Diaz Bros.

Even though McGregor dominated that first round in their first encounter, Diaz did hit him with some strong shots albeit sporadically. McGregor & Diaz both have extremely good chins & an ability to take certain shots that might otherwise trouble some people, but it doesn't matter who you are, if you get tagged right on the chin, right on the button the way Diaz caught McGregor with the 1-2 that initially rocked McGregor, it will put anyone in trouble regardless of weight or anything like that.

A scrappy brawl would suit Nate, if it's more of a technical brawl I think it will suit Conor.
