Breaking news: Cormier vs. Rumble at UFC 206 is off due to an injury to Cormier.

apparently gegard mousasi stepped up but rumble said no and is choosing to wait for DC at a later date

Another AKA injury... :wall:

As long as DC's injury isn't super serious that will put him on the shelf for a while, I think Rumble should come off the card. He has literally cleaned out the LHW division with the exception of Cormier & Jones, so unless the bout is against either one of those it makes no sense for him.

Gegard fighting him makes no real sense for either fighter IMO, Gegard's knocking at the door for a middleweight title shot & Rumble's ready for a LHW title shot. If Gegard steps in, beats him, then what?

Best all round if they just take Rumble off the card & get a rematch with DC scheduled for February or March hopefully.

ufc just made Anthony Pettis vs Max Holloway the new main event and it will be for the interim fw championship

jose aldo is to be named the official featherweight champ and conor is expected to be stripped

Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis for interim title now slated for UFC 206 main event

Whhhyyyy???

Why is it an Interim title fight? Promote Aldo to champion & just call this a 'Title Eliminator' or 'No. 1 Contender's bout'.

Makes no sense to me for them to create an Interim title, completely pointless, just like the initial Jose Aldo/Frankie Edgar one was as well.

They should just move Cruz vs. Garbrandt here if both are willing. Velasquez vs. Werdum II is a more than good enough co-main for 207. Only making it an interim title fight so that they can justify 206 as a PPV still. I personally don't like interim titles, but I get why they do it. Did they do some weird focus group, and that's why they tend to do this? I mean who was going to deny the winner of Jones vs. OSP a title shot?

I've seen a few articles doing the rounds on Twitter one of which was with Ariel Helwani in which he made a point that I was thinking about regarding the Featherweight title/UFC 206 & McGregor vacating the title.

Up until Daniel Cormier got injured & pulled from the card, the Pettis/Holloway fight was simply going to be a No. 1 contenders bout with the winner realistically going to face Aldo anyway. But the point being, Daniel Cormier's injury is what prompted the UFC to force McGregor to vacate the title in order to get UFC 206's new main event some additional hype. Daniel Cormier health should have absolutely no effect on the FW division's title status at all.

Realistically I think we all know the chances of McGregor fighting at FW again are slim & probably would have ended up vacating the title anyway.. but I think the way in which it's been handled has been pretty crap. They should have afforded him the ability to vacate it on his own terms, let him release a statement through the UFC or something off the like. The way things currently stand the UFC looks quite bad IMO.

Here's 2 good articles on what I believe is McGregor's own website(?)

Ariel Helwani: UFC’s stripping of Conor McGregor’s belt was a botch job

UFC’s decision to strip Conor McGregor makes no sense - This article I'm only posting because they talk about the stripping of the title & they mention several other instances in which champions have went 12+ months without defending a title & being afforded more time to defend. I think the UFC needs to really set a precedent & say from here on out you have 12 months MAX to defend a title or you will be stripped.

The decision to have him relinquish the title makes a ton of sense. No matter what McGregor and his camp says, he's never fighting at featherweight again. he looks like 100 miles of bad road when he cuts weight to 145 pounds. He looks like a walking corpse at the weigh-ins. It's just not a good idea idea or in any way healthy.

But he won the title, and spent the entire year avoiding fights at featherweight. He opted for two fights against Nate Diaz at WELTERWEIGHT. Then he fought at lightweight. When exactly is he going to fight at featherweight?

Is Conor McGregor a phenom and a phenomenal fighter? Yes. But let's not mix things up here. As a champion, he's failed to defend his title and answer the challenge to the title contenders at featherweight. So it's not a mistake to strip him of the title. Has this situation been mishandled? Yes, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't take the belt off of him.

UFC has been honest since the beginning. McGregor would have to give up one of his titles. Why should he? Because he can't realistically defend both titles and that's a fact. As soon as he won the featherweight title, HE STOPPED FIGHTING AT FEATHERWEIGHT. He refused to go back down to featherweight and demanded another fight with Nate Diaz at WELTERWEIGHT and the UFC granted him that. They granted him the lightweight title fight in New York that he wanted.

Sorry Mystic Mac, but even if you ran through that division just because you are two divisional champ doesn't mean you can log jam them either. He may have beaten Max Holloway before, but Holloway has now won nine freaking fights in a row. He's rightfully earned a shot at that title.

I think it's McGregor making a power play. UFC owners really need to meet and sit down with him already.

DJ had an incredibly close competitive fight tonight tim elliot nearly shocked the world in the 1st round

Demetrious Johnson is a beast. It's a shame for him that he just doesn't have a rival at Flyweight that will get both him & the division the proper coverage & respect he/the division deserves. Benavidez is ironically his only true rival in the division & I think in the last few years Mighty Mouse has just pulled away from him in terms of the skill gap.

Apparently Dana has been trying to get Cyborg to fight Holly Holm at UFC 208 for the inaugural 145 women's title in the UFC, but she's turning it down saying that eight weeks or something isn't enough time for her to cut weight. Dana is pissed at Cyborg saying she has issues going on.

He offered her another title fight in February and Cyborg turned that fight down too. Cyborg's an idiot.

they offered holly holm the fight but holly's camp said they will only do the fight as high as 138

Yeah, infuriating stuff. She shouldn't let herself get that big outside of camp. What kind of professional athlete makes themselves unavailable for a chunk of the year because they're not the right weight? Walk around at a comfortable weight to make the weight for goodness sake. Alas it's happened now, and at least they're catering to her appeal by effectively giving her a title, makes sense. Hopefully it just gets moved along.

conor mcgregor is taking 10 months off so now the lw division will be in limbo deja vu indeed

It's not really though to be honest, Ferguson & Nurmagomedov are rumoured to be fighting each other to determine a No. 1 contender which is also rumoured to be happening in March or maybe even April. With the winner then facing McGregor in the fall of 2017.

Those 2 fighting to determine a No. 1 contender is the correct thing to do as well IMO even if McGregor wasn't taking time off.

I have no problem with taking featherweight belt off of McGregor. But IMHO, they shouldn't have made a new interim title.
