F*** me, totally caught up in all the RPGs in one mammoth posting session. That was overdue!

Considering picking up either Supergirl or Human Torch. Haven't decided which one yet, but if anyone has any pertinent plans involving either, letting me know might help me decide. :yay:

I've been primarily using them as NPCs in the Teen Titans. I've got no plans for either until the next time the team is needed.

I don't know if Byrd had anything up for Supergirl though.

"One Universe" RPG SEASON IV SIGN-UP FORM

Screen Name: Eddie Brock

Character you would like to play: Johnny Storm / The Human Torch

Powers: Pyrokinesis, flight, invulnerability to fire and heat.

Brief biography of the character's history: For all his life, Johnny Storm has been hotheaded and rebellious. His sister, Sue, has taken on the responsibility of looking after him and trying to rope him in, but it doesn't prove to be an easy task. After hitting puberty, Johnny became quite the womanizer. He spent more time in school picking up girls than studying. Meanwhile, despite their constant quarrels, his bond with Sue only grew stronger.

One day, everything changed for Johnny. He got roped into coming along for a science experiment by Sue's on-again-off-again boyfriend, the genius Reed Richards. Together with Reed's longtime friend and pilot, Ben Grimm, the foursome rocketed into space to study a cosmic anomaly. However, something went terribly wrong. The team was exposed to cosmic radiation, and their genetic structures were forever changed.

Reed could bend and expand any part of his body, like one giant piece of rubber. Sue could turn invisible and create force-fields and shields. Ben's entire body morphed into a rock-like substance, and he gained immeasurable strength and durability. And Johnny?

True to his hotheaded nature, Johnny gained the ability to engulf his entire body with flames, as well as flight and the ability to control all forms of fire and heat.

Always the opportunist, Johnny was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the Fantastic Four - a superhero team composed of the four friends - who used their abilities, as well as Reed's unmatched intellect, to help protect the Earth. In addition, Johnny has now become one of the founding members of the Teen Titans.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Some of the most fun times I've had RPing have been when I'm playing one of the Fantastic Four. It's great to explore the family dynamic of the team, and the best part is that it works whether the other three are NPCs or PCs. It will especially be interesting to see how the Fantastic Four react to the Metahuman Registration Act. Oh, and as an added bonus, I get to play one of the Teen Titans - possibly my favorite team in all of comics.

What can you bring to this game?: A lot of fun, hopefully, as well as reliability and an interest in working with others. Also, I'll be able to give this RPG a PC Fantastic Four to play off of.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Navy Comic Sans

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: If I'm working with someone, I'll post as often as they need me to. If I'm solo-arcing, I'll probably post every other day or so.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 5 paragraphs long and contain at least 3 line of dialogue):

i want to see you tonight, baby. ;)

I smile to myself as I look at the text. The girl who sent it is named "Hot Ginger" in my phone. Her name escapes me at the moment. Oh well. Guess it really doesn't matter.

i know, i know. i just have some important FF stuff to do, ya know?

That's a lie. I'm just not ready to give up my bachelor status. I'm single, ready to mingle, and the ladies love me. Plus, now I get to introduce myself as, "Johnny Storm of the world famous Fantastic Four and the new Teen Titans!" Don't get me wrong. When the right girl comes around, I'll be ready. I just know that she hasn't showed up yet.

"JOHNNY!" Ben bellows. I smirk. Guess he found my little "present" for him. Sure enough, the Baxter begins to shake as Ben stomps down the hall. I quickly wipe the smile off my face and stare intently at my phone. "Come here, you little brat!"

I turn and see Ben's giant hands coming for my neck. Suddenly, they slam up against an invisible wall between me and him. I look over Ben's shoulder and see Sue standing there. She just saved my neck - literally - but she doesn't seem too happy, either.

"Why'd you do it, Johnny?" Sue asks tiredly.

I turn back around so they can't see me smiling. "Do what?" I respond innocently.

"You know!" Ben roars. "You torched my bed! My pillow is a pile of ash!"

Bravo, Mr. Storm.

"Johnny, you know how hard it is to find a comfortable bed for Ben," Sue pleads in that matronly tone of hers. "This really wasn't funny."

"I can't believe what I'm hearing!" I announce defiantly, getting to my feet. "You two are making wild accusations here! You have no proof that I performed this act you speak of!"

"My bed was still smoking when I found it!" Ben responds angrily. "How else do you explain it?!"

I pause.

"Spontaneous combustion?"

Ben glares at me with those blue eyes of his. "That's it! I'm gonna kill him!" Ben leaps over the couch - an impressive feat for someone in his condition - and begins to chase me around the living room. Sue tries desperately to throw up shields and blocks, but Ben is charging like a man possessed.

"Oh, look at the time!" I announce suddenly. "Gotta go meet the Titans for important team business! Catch you later, Benny!" I lob a fireball into his face and make a dash for the exit.

I just realized that my Joker post got eaten by the Hype...

Damn.

We're past the 1000 post mark, so you know what that means, fellow RPers. Awards season! Here are the usual awards categories:

BEST STORYLINE
BEST HERO
BEST VILLAIN
BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER
BEST FIGHT
BEST POST
MVP

I left out BEST NEWCOMER this time, as I don't believe we've had any newcomers this season. If there's anyone I'm forgetting, my apologies. I'll try and get my nominations up tomorrow!

BEST STORYLINE: Avengers vs. JLA

This has been the biggest storyline of the season so far, and my awards pretty much reflect that. The two teams haven't met in the field of battle yet, with the PC Avengers team from the beginning of the season falling apart, but they flexed their muscle for a brief time and sent notice to the JLA that they're in business. Controlled by Amanda Waller, SHIELD, and Luthor, I can't wait to see what happens next and I'm glad to be taking part in this as Supes and Cap.

BEST HERO: Iron Man

D.O.U.C.H.E.

That says it all for me. Entertaining, hilarious, sharp and on point. Soze's Iron Man has it all. From his battles with alcoholism, to the PR battles with Lex Luthor, and now the added survivor's guilt from Stamford, Iron Man is always a good read and it only gets better under Soze's watch.

BEST VILLAIN: Lex Luthor
Creating a mirror version of the Justice League to use as government muscle? Check. Creating killer robots and launching them on a defenseless nation? Check. Faking a disaster and taking advantage of the aftermath to push through anti-superhero legislation through congress? Check....and that's the first thousand posts. We haven't had many baddies this season, but the ones we've had have been spot on and Luthor is the top of them all. Soze pointed out to me that Luthor seems to be a twisted version of Obama, using inspiring speeches and fancy words to push through his self-absorbed and evil agenda. Although, those conservatives out there would say that's how Obama really is. Kidding aside, Karem is the top villain in this RPG, edging out Carnage's Joker by a little bit.

BEST FIGHT: Amazo vs the JLA

We've had some good slobber-knockers this season, but I voted for this one because it's a fight that has serious repercussions because of the aftermath. The RPG and the psyche of several JLA heroes was changed in the blink of an eye by Amazo.

BEST POST: TIE

Jay Garrick is too slow & Tony Stark reacts to Stamford

MVP: Karem-Knight

As Lex Luthor, he's the main force behind the main storyline of the season. He's the big baddie and the main foil for most of the heroes in the game, and KK is keeping it up and keeping us on our toes.

BEST STORYLINE - GORDON AND THE GCPD TAKE ON GOTHAM (Byrd Man)
My biggest regret about dropping Two-Face at the beginning of this season is that I don't get to take part in this masterful, ambitious epic that Byrd has been crafting. But not only has Byrd handled Two-Face very well in my absence, but he's brought life to all levels of his organisation, right through to looking at its corrupting influence on city hall. And on the other side, he's brought to life a varied ensemble of detectives working for the Major Crimes Unit. In 1U, Byrd Man IS Gotham City. But remaining at the centre of it all is Byrd's flawless portrayal of Gordon, making him a figure strong enough to be the figurehead of this sprawling saga. Seeing the sheer scope of this multi-layered narrative, watching all the pieces gradually come together, has been a big inspiration on what I'm trying to start doing with Iron Man now, but I think the best I can hope for is a pale imitation. This reads like a master storyteller at work.

BEST HERO - SPIDER-MAN (Carnage27)
What, there are people playing in this game not called Byrd Man or wiegeabo!? While our very own Dynamic Duo have proven themselves to be a dominant force in this RPG, this season has really seen Carnage rise to the occasion as the dependable Third Man. His Joker made for a highly entertaining foil for Batman and Gordon, but the real highlight for Carnage this season has been his stellar work on Spider-Man. He's really captured the knack for bringing to life Peter Parker's everyman qualities, skillfully putting him in the position of POV character for us readers in scenes like the recent Stamford disaster. I remember back when Carnage27 first joined the games, so it's nice to see how far he's come where he can more than hold his own against the more experienced RPers. Great work!

BEST VILLAIN - LEX LUTHOR (Karem-Knight)
Curse you, Byrd! You stole my "Lex Luthor is an evil Obama" line! Rather than repeating Byrd (even though he was repeating me, grrrr....) I'll go a different route. Karem-Knight, we go back a long way in these games. You joined way back in late 2004, in the first season of the original Marvel RPG. And since then, I've watched you progress, watched you grow as a writer. And now, with Lex Luthor, I think you're doing your best writing ever. Playing the President of the United States for a season could easily have been a dull, thankless duty, simply lumbering along from one piece of plot-advancing exposition to the next, but you've attacked the role with relish. Your Luthor just has this squirming, phoney "niceness" that makes you want to punch him, it's wonderfully nuanced stuff. It's just a great villain. And I don't mean that in a "You get the award because we're thin on villains this season" way either. I'd put your Luthor up against any villain we've ever had in One Universe, including my own take on Luthor in Season 1, and would say you compare most favorably. I'm proud of how far you've come since the "glinder" days.

BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER - BATMAN (wiegeabo)
I've had people praise my work before and say "Oh wow, Keyser, I love how you progressed a character arc over a whole season, impressive!" No, what's impressive is the work Wiegeabo has done on Batman, not just over the course of a season, but since near the beginning of the game, I believe since the end of the first season. You look at where he picked the character up from MaskedManJRK, and look at where he is now, and you can see a through line, a steady building and developing of the character's arc. The recent scene where Bruce revealed to Elektra that he is Batman had so much more impact because of the amount of time - spanning multiple seasons - wiegeabo has spent building the groundwork of the Bruce/Ellektra relationship. It's just remarkable patience, and it's paid off with a rounded, multi-dimensional take on the Dark Knight that, amidst a collection of great Batmen in our RPGs, could very well stand as the best interpretation of Batman ever in these games.

BEST FIGHT - JUSTICE LEAGUE VS AMAZO
I'm going to have to agree with Byrd on this one. This was a whole lot of fun to take part in, with the united heroes still having to fight against the odds battling a foe who outmatched all of them. And then you had that kicker of an ending that took the emotional impact of the fight to a whole other level. A prime example of the fun that can he had with collaborative RPing.

BEST POST - RHODEY'S DESPAIR (Optikal)
Out of everything I've done so far this season, I'd say the highlight for me was the scene between Tony Stark and James Rhodes in the hospital, shortly after Rhodes has been left a crippled amputee in a plane crash. I love RPing with Optikal, I feel that better than anyone he can really bring out the best in me as a writer. So I really felt the back-and-forth dynamics clicking so naturally with every post of this scene, until we culminated with this thing of beauty. It's just so powerful, filled with raw and genuine emotion, it's almost hard to read. I found it to be a really moving piece, and testament to Optikal's remarkable writing prowess. I wish he'd post more, because with this scene - and this post in particular - he not only showed that he is crafting an excellent, damn near definitive take on War Machine, but that in general he is a great writer whose posts are always worth reading.

Rhodey listened with his eyes closed, the words reverberating through what was left of him. Losing the limbs and being crippled weren't the only things at work in his mind. He felt like he'd lost part of his soul along with the parts of his physical body.

Before the accident, he'd had everything he'd ever wanted in life. Great friends, his dream career... respect and recognition. He'd overcome the obstacles of his meagre beginnings and actually made something of his life.

Now though, he lay there surrounded by medical equipment with the sterile clinic stench of the medical facility invading his lungs. He'd lost it all. He'd never fly again. He'd never run or drive again. He'd never get to stand with his best friend as one of them tied the knot. He'd never be able to prop Tony up and carry his drunken ass home again.

Rhodes was broken. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally.

He opened his one good eye to reveal the tears there. They fell easily, streaking down his stubble lined cheek to the corner of his mouth. He looked at his his friend with that one good tear stained eye. "I'm sorry Tony," He said, his face tightening against the floods of emotion coursing through him. "I'm sorry that I can't be more appreciative. I'm sorry that I can't hug you and tell you how much I love you... as a friend and as a brother. I'm sorry you wasted your journey down here to see what's left of me.

"You've always been there Tony. Always. You're a womanizing, self serving, arrogant drunk with an ego the size of Manhattan, but you've got everything. Yeah, I'm alive, but for what? I'll never have kids or a wife like a normal man. I'll never be able to serve my country. Hell, there's not even enough of me left to work as one of your lackeys! I'm a living corpse for christ sake!"

The room suddenly seemed very empty and the electronic beeping of his life support systems seemed very loud.

"I'm sorry Tony but there's nothing left to fight for."

Rhodes voice broke, a small quake in his usually solid persona.

"Nothing."
He managed to whisper.

Rhodes held his stare for a moment or two, the tears flowing freely, his bottom lip trembling hard. He tried to fight it all back but all he could was turn his head away from the closest thing he had to a brother.

MVP - BYRD MAN
You want to know why I'm nominating Byrd Man for this award? Just click on the post-count for the IC thread. Byrd has the most posts in the game by a substantial margin. I like to think I post at least semi-regularly, but as of writing this he has me beat by exactly 50 posts. From crafting his aformentioned epic Gotham saga, to helping keep the Justice League alive and kicking on multiple fronts by playing both Captain America AND Superman, Byrd is the true workhorse of this game. What's more impressive is how many of those 148 (and counting) posts are excellent. Three very different characters, but he nails them all, while still making each distinct and having each serve a distinct role in the overall story of the season. Once again, Byrd proves to be an incredible asset to the RPGs, and pretty much the textbook definition of an MVP.

*Reads Keyser's nominations*

BEST HERO - SPIDER-MAN (Carnage27)

*Spit takes*

Wow. Seriously wow. Thanks a lot man. That means a lot coming from someone who is constantly one of the best in this game.

Anyway...here's my nominations. Without explanations, I've got a little work to do, but I wanted to get them up. Explanations will be up sometime this week.

BEST STORYLINE-Gotham at War
Wieg and Byrd have really step up their game so far this season with Gordon and Bats, and the terrific relationship between the two is really taking a hold of the game. Byrd's flawless depiction of the insanity of the daily life of the MCU and Gordon's struggle to bring down the man in charge of Gotham's underworld while still dealing with the rest of Gotham's crazies has been a fun ride.
BEST HERO-Batman (wiegeabo)
Wieg has continued to impress me as Batman. He's got the character down to a science, and I anticipate each of his posts, especially now that he's outted himself to Elektra.

BEST VILLAIN-Lex Luthor (Karem Knight)
As the architect of the coming battle, Karem has done a terrific job of making Luthor someone the everyman would most likely love, but behind the scenes is a scheming. slimey liar who would do anything to get his way.

BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER-Iron Man (Keyser Soze)
Going from alcoholic, to smear campaigner, to hero, to martyr, Keyser has done a terrific job of balancing Tony's many sides, while still bringing his A writing game to every post.

BEST FIGHT-JLA and the Teen Titans take on Amazo

Knock-out, drag out slobber-knocker and the debut of the Teen Titans. There's nothing else to say really.

BEST POST-Not Fast Enough(wiegeabo as Jay Garrick)

Powerful and gut wrenching. Terrific stuff, wieg.

MVP- Byrd Man
Byrd has carried the Gotham storyline, and been the moral compass for the JLA in the characters of Superman and Captain America. Really terrific work.

About time one of us lazy-ass GMs to that. Way to go, wieg  :cmad:

Does that mean you'll change your MVP nomination to me now?

Yeah, sure...but not before you do that other thing that I like...you know.

You know that makes me die a little inside.

"One Universe" RPG SEASON IV SIGN-UP FORM

Screen Name: Green Lantern

Character you would like to play: Hank Pym, Giant Man

Powers: With his self invented Pym Particles, he can change his size at will, from as small as an ant to as big as a 7 story building. He is also a genius inventor, who is infamous for creating Ultron, but trying for redemption with the Vision.

Brief biography of the character's history: Hank Pym had always been called a genius, but it wasn't until he discovered Pym Particles that he caught the attention of SHIELD. Then-Director of the secret agency, Nick Fury, saw the military potential of the man´s invention and recruited Pym. Under Fury Pym was given free reign to develop Pym Particles.

Sometime during his ongoing tenure at SHIELD Pym was given a high-profile, high-investment project that failed miserably. Since then he had been barely scraping by at SHIELD, getting less and less work. Until Amanda Waller took over, however. Pym made a deal; He would develop Pym Particles further, going so far as using them himself and calling himself Giant Man, be put on Waller´s high profile team of superheroes, the Avengers, and answer directly to her. For this, he wanted full control over the Vision project; an android built from the blueprints of a WW2-era android and put on the Avengers team as well. Waller agreed, albeit with great hesitation. Pym is now on thin ice with SHIELD, and sees the Vision as a means to redeem himself for his past failures.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I want to play an Avenger, and with my first two choices already gone, who better than the leader of the team? I have a soft spot for Hank, who got a really bad rap for the ONE time he hit his wife... I promise NOT to beat Jan (in public anyway).

What can you bring to this game?: I can bring an experienced roleplayer, a face to the pro-reg movement, and a PC Avenger.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Verdana, Bold, Dark Orange

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: .42

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 5 paragraphs long and contain at least 3 line of dialogue):

Hank looked around the room, surveying his team. Seemed quite a bit more empty in here without Thor or Green Lantern. To his right sat his wife, Janet. To his left sat the Vision, his surrogate robot son. Gathered around the table completing the team were Wonder Woman, Hawkeye and Flash. Watching via the cameras in the meeting room were the real powers behind the team, Luthor and Waller. They were in charge, Hank knew he was just the figure head.

"Alright. Now that we're all assembled, the first order of business is this Stamford debacle."

Hank looked around the room at the faces of all present.

"Things like what happened yesterday should never happen. Thousands of innocent people died, and no one will be held accountable. It is for this reason that our Commander-In-Chief is asking Congress to pass a Superhero Registration Act. Being that we are the President's personal superhero team, this means we must be the first to support the Act. I go before Congress tomorrow to testify. I ask that all of you do the same if asked to by President Luthor. All superheroes should be able to be held accountable for the actions that they cause, endangering human life. This behavior is unacceptable."
