BEST POST - RHODEY'S DESPAIR (Optikal)
Out of everything I've done so far this season, I'd say the highlight for me was the scene between Tony Stark and James Rhodes in the hospital, shortly after Rhodes has been left a crippled amputee in a plane crash. I love RPing with Optikal, I feel that better than anyone he can really bring out the best in me as a writer. So I really felt the back-and-forth dynamics clicking so naturally with every post of this scene, until we culminated with this thing of beauty. It's just so powerful, filled with raw and genuine emotion, it's almost hard to read. I found it to be a really moving piece, and testament to Optikal's remarkable writing prowess. I wish he'd post more, because with this scene - and this post in particular - he not only showed that he is crafting an excellent, damn near definitive take on War Machine, but that in general he is a great writer whose posts are always worth reading.
God dammit Soze! Always more praise than I deserve. And now I have to put in double the effort in order to live up to it! Thank you for the kind words though, you know that no one has more respect from me than you do.
BEST STORYLINE - The Avengers / Justice League Saga.
Whilst this is one of the most obvious story-lines to try and run in a 'One Universe' setting, it has undoubtedly been one of the most entertaining. Sure, there's more grit and deeper personal meaning in other tales around the landscape of this game, but JLA vs Avengers takes me back to a more innocent time of super-powered violence from comic books when I was a kid. Great effort all round from everyone involved. BEST HERO - Iron Man (Keyser Soze)
Played to perfection. Honestly, Sozes ability to de-construct a character and build them back up to a level of their canonical equivalent (and sometimes even better than that) is unmatched by any other role-players I've come across. His Iron Man is one of those very few 'MUST READ' characters, displaying Sozes knowledge and ability at its finest.
BEST VILLAIN - Lex Luthor (Karem-Knight)
For all the reasons previously mentioned. There's really nothing I can add to what has already been said other than it's the first time I've ever actually found Luthor interesting and actually intimidating as a villain.
BEST DEVELOPED CHARACTER - Jim Gordon and the GCPD (Byrd Man)
So often we concern ourselves with playing the super powered hero or villain and trying to 'humanize' them that we don't ever consider the actual normal everyday 9-5 humans. This is why I love Byrds take on things so much. Here we have a bunch of unremarkable cops dealing with a remarkable world and Byrd writes and defines it beautifully. Reading the development and progress of Jim and the rest of the team is a stark reminder as to why Byrd is regarded in my eyes as one the Hypes premier role-players.
BEST FIGHT - Heroes vs Amazo
This is the kind of thing that really makes the RPGs for me. Everyone banding together to take out a threat in true comic book fashion. It's often in these situations that we get a truly golden post or two out of a series of very good interactions and reactions. Which leads me nicely into...
BEST POST - Jay Garricks 'Not Fast Enough' (Wieg)
This was the defining post of the Amazo ordeal for me as a reader. Brilliant, raw and powerful. Showcasing that heroes aren't infallible and that the day is not always going to be saved. A masterpiece from Wieg.
MVP - Wiegeabo
Amidst all the praise for the Batman, it's easy to forget just how consistently brilliant, charming and definitive Wiegs take on Jay has been. Wieg is a proven asset with writing skill, reliability and his seemingly tireless work OOC keeping the roster running smooth and posts coming in frequently. Something of an unsung hero in my eyes, Wieg works hard, posts great material and is a keystone of this game. Bravo, good sir. Bravo.
Character you would like to play: Dr. Bruce Banner / The Incredible Hulk
Powers: As Banner, Bruce possesses extreme intellect. When he becomes angry or agitated, Bruce transforms into the Hulk. As the Hulk, Bruce possesses unparalleled strength and endurance. Additionally, the Hulk possesses a powerful healing factor.
Brief biography of the character's history: A skilled scientist, Bruce Banner undertook a project studying gamma radiation in the hopes of curing diseases and strengthening the human immune system. However, unbeknownst to Bruce, the military was funding the project in the hopes of creating the ultimate weapon. Frustrated by his lack of progress, Bruce rushed the testing of his experiment, going so far as to use himself as the live human subject. Something went terribly wrong, and as a result, the Hulk was born.
Pursued relentlessly by Generals Eiling and Ross (the latter of which happens to be the father of Bruce's longtime girlfriend and fellow scientist, Elizabeth Ross), Bruce attempts to live off-the-grid until he can cure himself of his strange affliction. Currently, after being manipulated by Neron, Bruce is under the watchful eye of Dr. Fate.
List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: The Hulk is a complex emotional character. Also, since he has been used so sparingly, there's a lot of his mythos to be explored yet. And frankly, the Hulk needs to play a larger part in this RPG than he does.
What can you bring to this game?: Reliability, dedication, and cookies.
Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Green Verdana for Bruce / Green Arial Black for Hulk
How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As often as I need to for a given storyline.
Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 5 paragraphs long and contain at least 3 line of dialogue):
"Are you ready to try again, Bruce?" Dr. Fate asks softly. I'm lying on the couch, eyes closed in meditation. Fate stands above me, his hand placed against my forehead.
"Okay."
What happens next is a trip. There's a bright flash of light as Fate sends me into my mind. During our time at the Tower of Fate, we have determined that the Devil Hulk personality was dormant within my subconscious. Something - someone - merely unleashed it. Knowing that, Fate proposed a magically-induced form of hypnosis to find out what else is lurking deep within the recesses of my mind. So far, our search has been largely fruitless.
"Puny Banner," the Hulk sneers as I appear before him. It's a strange sensation, moving through your own mind. Essentially, I'm standing in the middle of darkness, with the Hulk standing opposite to me. We've seen a lot of each other over the past few weeks.
"Bruce, go deep within your mind," Dr. Fate instructs. His voice resonates through my mind as if he's speaking through some mystical PA system. "Search out these alternate personalities. Bring them to the light."
I rub the bridge of my nose. This is so stupid. I'm in here - in my own mind, supposedly - yelling into a dark abyss in the hopes of finding...what? Another Devil Hulk? What if I unleash something that I can't control? I don't want to find the other "Hulks." I want to get rid of them. Nonetheless...
"Hello? Is anyone in here?" Behind me, the Hulk grumbles. Otherwise, there is silence. I hang my head in disappointment. "We're wasting our time. There's nothing else out there."
"Is someone else truly out there?"
My head shoots up suddenly. "Hello?"
"I say, it's quite nice to finally have someone to hold an intelligent conversation with..."
"You can imagine, I'm sure, what it's been like being trapped in here with this savage brute."
Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards?:
JB finished that arc. Blonsky turned himself into the Abomination, but then he was beat down by the Hulk. Bruce was later captured by General Eiling, but he was freed by Neron. Neron unleashed the Devil Hulk, who was stopped by the League and Supergirl. Dr. Fate offered safe haven to Bruce, and that's when JB dropped him in favor of Superman.
