Ha.... My first thought on seeing the image was that it was rather similar to Godzilla...

Its going to be impossible not to draw similarities between the two works.

From the facebook page. Caption of the pic is:

"A chilling reminder of a Kaiju attack."

Awesome image.

Awesome image.

It does remind me of the really bad 98 Emmerich film. So happy that Del Toro is directing. If the military from this film or Cloverfield were in the 98 Zilla film then it would be very short because GINO would be dead quick. None of that shooting anti-aircraft missiles at a ground target and ground forces that cant hit a 200 foot plus tall monster at close range to save their lives. Not to mention a Pacific Rim Kaiju would wipe out GINO in its sleep. If I had the ability I would like to create like a cgi short film where a Jaeger pilot shows the power of the Jaeger bots by toying with GINO before killing it.

It does indeed very much remind me of the footprints in the san in the original Godzilla...and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The pic is similar, except the kaiju footprint is lots bigger than the zilla one.

well Zilla is around 200-220 feet tall while the Kaijus from Pacific Rim are 300 feet tall and maybe even taller than that. So the print would be larger.

Really excited for this, the script/early reviews have been good so I'm expecting this to be a "at least" critical hit. Hopefully the GA will get into it.

so is the Kaiju supposed to be corrosive/radioactive?

Its definitely corrosive to a degree, unsure about radioactive. In the trailer a dead Kaiju is being transported by an aircraft carrier which looks to be eating away at it.

I'm going to consider this the Godzilla movie I always wanted in modern cinema. :P

yeah this movie will help a lot in that regard. The 98 Emmerich film is not Godzilla. Im happy we have this one and dont forget-the same studios are putting out a new Godzilla film next year. The filming just started yesterday.
