Pacific Rim - Part 2

Is it just me, or does the footage of Gipsy Danger holding the boat and slamming it at the Kaiju seem a lot more polished than the last couple of the trailers?

well I have watched the spot in 720p quality so it still looks a little blurry at that point to me. The spot does not look to be in the best quality. Otherwise everything looks great to me effects wise. Just at the point where GD hits the Kiaju with the tanker it could look better at that exact moment. The problem lies with whoever at WB edited the footage and how it was released. I hope the new trailer is attached to both Hangover 3 and FF6 this weekend. Has anyone seen the new trailer in theaters? I went and saw Star Trek ID and did not see anything from Pacific Rim.

The tv commercials look a little better than what we saw from the trailer.

Looking forward to this movie! On a side note, any news on At The Mountains Of Madness movie?

GDT just talked about ideas for the sequel:

"[With the old Godzilla movies] it was Godzilla versus so-and-so, and that was all you needed to know It was like a wrestling match. They [Kaiju] are a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and moving to the next. The idea [with the sequel] is to explore a little bit of that. I won’t spoil it, but I don’t think we’ll repeat a single beat from the first movie." While Del Toro is co-writing the sequel with Travis Beachman, he isn't guaranteed to return to the director's chair. "It will take us a while to develop. I don’t think the screenplay will come out so quick. It took us a year and a half to do this script, and It’ll take us at least two years to develop the other script."

Man, I'm really curious what they could do with it. The ending isn't very open-ended, and when I talked to him he(obviously) said practically nothing other than having an idea for it. Poop.

Could be that the Jaeger team have to start taking on other creatures in sequels, or even teaming up with other creatures to take on more kaiju.

I'm pretty much at peace with everything in PR, except the kaiju being controlled from beyond the portal. It's not a deal breaker for me, my hype is beyond that now. But...idk, I guess I was always hoping the kaiju would be an enigmatc mystery, ya know?

But I am curious to see how it plays out. Already these "consumers" seem to be a different take on aliens. Speculation on my part, I don't expect to see a civilization on the other side.

Or that they'll be fighting on other planets as well.

I came out feeling like despite all that happened, they were still pretty mysterious. Like even the drifts with Kaiju brains didn't throw a lot in your face. I think you'll dig what you see. And if not, I'm a certified butthole.

Yeah, it's primarily location that I'm curious about. Where they'll go from here. GDT was super giddy about whatever idea he had, so that's exciting to see.

This question just popped into head. How exactly do the Jaeger pilots mind meld? Is it the suits that make it possible? Do they meditate and unlock brain potential? Are they genetically altered?

It's a device built into the suits, but in order to drift with a person, they have to match you in specific ways. There are combat exercises, and you have to feel a connection towards them in order to effective, it is partially tuned into your memories, but you kinda have to phase out, and stay focused on the task at hand. So it's the suit along with common mind power, and training to keep from getting lost in past memories I suppose.

Alright I got ya. Sounds neat. Thanks for the clarification arman. Helpful as always. :)

I was skeptical of this movie at first.

GDT has always been hit or miss for me. But these trailer are undeniably awesome.

I'm hoping it outgrosses Oz and gets over an 80% on rotten tomatoes.

That featurette was awesome. Great timing too right? Just last night I was curious as to how these pilots mind meld. First arman shares what he knows, then WB lol.

Can't wait to see more. I hope we get a featurette for each Jaeger.

Hey I wanna ask something of you guys. I'm creating my own little fan fiction Jaeger. And I'm aiming to have it be one pilot capable. Do you guys think that's OK? Like a sign of progressing Jaeger tech. Or that it should stay two pilots? Because I'm working out quite as few ways as to how one pilot can be possible.

Proper jaeger measurement :p

thanks for posting the new blueprint of Cherno. Hmm I thought Alpha was 250 feet and not 280. Hope to see it has some good action against 1 Kaiju before it gets tag teamed.

the drift is a briliant idea for a scifi movie.

with the drift you get a natural way to have flashbacks for the main characters. at the same time you get real drama inside the robots when they fight because something bad will happen when characters are under stress.

this is just good oldschool scifi writting. finding an original way to tell a scifi story. this is how you do it. i bow down.

^ Agreed Dark B, I really enjoyred the Drift featurette.

The mind meld aspect is what I love most in the script, it makes it stand out instead of being a dumb Transformers-like movie. It actually brings emotion and depth to the story and characters.

A new kaiju has appeared!

Here's why they made the Jaegers in the first place...

(Edit) Oh and that's the new kaiju.

I assume that's a critique on the entire Transformers mythos. Cause there ain't anything as human as the mental handshake concept in the entire series...but I digress.
