Did they have any scenes that took place in Japan, rather than China/Hong Kong?

Not that I can think of. I just remember China, Alaska, San Francisco, an underwater scene, and the beginning scene in the middle of the ocean.

I genunely didn't. It was a little inconvenient to have to run back to the parking structure to put my phone away shortly before the movie started, but aside from that and searching everyone for cameras, there wasn't anything done to avoid letting details slip. I was expecting a non-disclosure agreement with the paper that I filled out on my overall thoughts for the film, but nope.

Can you describe the battles? And would you say the action is some of the hugest you've seen in a movie?

Also, what weapons do you remember the Jaegers having?

The first battle is within the first five minutes of the film, and it's with Gipsy Danger trying to protect a fishing boat, while simultaneously destroying the Kaiju before it reached land. That one was mostly a fist fight/grappling, and a couple shots of the plasma cannon.

My favorite was the scene in Hong Kong involving 3 Jaegers, 2 Kaijus, A rocket punch, plasma cannon, chain sword, flying, etc. I don't want to ruin that one.

The action was definitely some of the biggest I've seen in a movie. It's definitely very anime inspired. The best way I can say it is if you geeked out in Avengers during the city flyby scene, think that level of excitement for those interested in mechs/kaijus/anime even remotely.

Weapons....There's a chain sword, like this one:

there's the plasma gun, rocket fist, rockets, a nuke, striker has 2 blades on its fists, and one scene has Gipsy Danger smashing a Kaiju with a large sailboat.

Really? I don't see how anyone, with a bit of common sense, will be thinking Transformers when they see those posters. Just the tag "Coyote Tango: Japan" will give it away, there are no "country specific" robots in Transformers, and the scale is nothing like Transformers, which looks ridiculous in comparison.

I think they were engines, but it wasn't really pointed out.

The Kaiju that looked the best to me was the one that smashes Hong Kong. It has a visual tongue(If that makes sense?), it also has glowing wings, and acidic spit.

I didn't think he was too bad. I wasn't blown away, but I think he did okay. My friends are extremely critical, for what it's worth.

I actually got a Star Trek vibe from it in terms of enjoyment. I felt like Star Trek had a similar pace to it, very quick and full of action and humor. I would also compare it to The Avengers. The plot was predictable enough, but it will keep you smiling and if you're into this stuff even remotely, you'll geek out.

The plot is probably the downfall of it, but here's the way I see it: Anime/mechs vs. Kaijus require a niche audience and can be hard to sell. This movie is kind of Del Toro's way of opening the door, and so he plays it very safe with plot, so that people don't get scared away, and sort of embrace it. It's not a stupid story, it's just been done before and is predictable in that sense. So if/when he does make a sequel, he can kinda go all out with that one.

Gipsy Danger and all the Jaegers built during and before Gipsy Danger are Nuclear powered, but every other Jaeger featured in the movie are built a few years afterward, with cheaper power sources.

I would really describe it like an anime. There were a lot of parts that remind me of Gundam/Evangelion/Big o.

The takes are very well cut, you can follow everything that's going on, and even though the action is fast-paced, I wouldn't call it "Bayhem at all.

IMHO, I think that poster could get a momentary 'Another Transformers?' before 'Oh, it's not... What is it?' kinda thing...

While some skepticism is of course always necessary, it kind of baffles me how down on this film a lot of people are despite the many positive reactions from pre-screenings, people at the studio and from other filmmakers not involved in the project.

It's hard to tell from that picture, but I think the first one is the one in Hong Kong, and the third one is in the first battle of the movie.

Pretty sure about the first one, the other one I can't remember if that is the one I'm thinking of, I just remember that it uses it's nose as a blade to tear through Jaegers.

I really don't like the new poster. Its just the art style. It just makes it look cheap. They either should have either had the cg image be up to snuff with the quality found in the film or straight up painted the poster.
