As someone who has watched it from the start, that is exactly what it is. It is melodramatic and cheesy. The random attempts at ultra violence and raunchy sex just add to the eyerolling. It is a night time soap. But I still enjoy it. It is just very juvenile, which is why it is so cheesy when they try and play up the big emotions. THE WORLD IS ENDING.... AGAIN!!!!!!!

I'm not saying it shouldn't have moved slow when it was dying, I'm suggesting that they should always move that way. This is tones and tone of hydraulics at and pumps at work.

You're getting those reactions because 'soap opera' is kind of a loaded term with a lot of preconceptions. 'Television drama' would be more accurate.

I was so disappointed to not see a trailer for Pacific Rim with Iron Man 3. I hope when I see Star Trek in IMAX, I will finally see this trailer in all its glory.

This trailer BTW, is still not as good as the Con Footage..that is still my favorite.

Doubt it. Gipsy Danger is an older Jaeger than the rest of the ones you see in the trailer. The others are more advanced. I'm betting they can all haul ass.

You're getting those reactions because 'soap opera' is kind of a loaded term with a lot of preconceptions. 'Television drama' would be more accurate.

Nah, Game of Thrones is a television drama imo. Mad Men, Justified, those are television dramas. SoA is kinda of like pro wrestling. Soaps for men. A lot of big, over the top emotions, with sketchy writing. Lowest common denominator type stuff.

Regarding the comment on the Jaeger moving as fast as Bayformers...I have to disagree, strongly. The only thing that even comes close to one flying around hitting **** is Gipsy Danger running forward and using thrusters to boost a jump. These things need massive thrusters just to do a jump, they're not twirling and whizzing about.

The only thing that even comes close to one flying around hitting **** is Gipsy Danger running forward and using thrusters to boost a jump. These things need massive thrusters just to do a jump, they're not twirling and whizzing about.

Go watch a clip of Optimus running and jumping and or punching and or coming out of a swimming pool. It's pretty much this. Considering the scale and the human operating factor, I just expected a vast difference. Optimus is 34 feet tall and moving his own limbs.

Obviously there are smaller TF's that "whizz about", but let's not be obtuse here. I know this is a forum but still.

I watch it, I enjoy it, but I know what it is. It is what it is. I could fluff up pro wrestling as well, but I know why I enjoy it. The general scenarios are very soapy and cheesy. The escalation is just like a relationship on a soap, where happiness or normalcy is not allowed. You need to continue to present a greater conflict, but because of the general idea of the show, it becomes completely outlandish. The show is a great eye-roller for that reason. The show tries, but you can see the machine working and in the end it always falls back on the tried and tested. They attempt expand the narrative (usually through shock and awe), but the writing just holds it back, mid-season everything becomes jumbled and in the end they just fall back on striking out at the base emotions, usually in the most "brutal" way possible.

There are some shots where they look pretty quick and agile, but it is all going to need to be seen in context imo. Maybe there is a reason for it.

I don't think that's concept art. The Facebook page has been posting official pics lately, and it didn't say it was concept art. You could be right man, but it at the moment looks like a movie shot to me.

Is it just me, or does the footage of Gipsy Danger holding the boat and slamming it at the Kaiju seem a lot more polished than the last couple of the trailers?
