How this movie is performing in the theatres is just disappointing. Losing to two sequels, one of which never needed the green light?
This isn't WB's best year.

this movie is all style and no substance.
What's more puzzling to me is how much of a pass this movie is getting because "that's what GDT was going for"
He was going for characters that are terribly flat? I get the cliched accents. But there is literally nothing unique, or even interesting about the characters in this movie.
I'll say it again, you replace GDT's name with Bay,Abrams, or any other director and the tune would change.
I'm glad this movie is under performing, it's been my least favorite of the summer.
Yes it is. Seems marketing was pretty terrible there, jmc didn't even know there was an Australian jaeger. Underwhelming in the UK also. Two key markets where its not doing well.
I'm also not sure how Japan is gonna take the movie, will they accept something that they love being done by Hollywood? Also WWZ gets released the same time around it.
I think the fact that the leading lady is Japanese might help, but having the Japanese jaeger went down so quickly in the movie might not.
It's not going to make 300mil domestically and yet it's still a hit, unlike Pacific Rim. That doesn't make Pacific Rim a bad or good movie, it's just not a hit. Mos's detractors and over zealous fans are the only ones calling it a failure at the box office.what makes the fanboys always angry is when they dont like a movie but critics or other fanboys do.
we all need to be right. thats what this is all about. the same with the BO. why are superman fans so invested in the BO? why does MOS need to make 300 domestic? because they can run around the niternet community screaming MOS is a good movie because it made 300 domestic.
Do they even have any reason to?
I was never excited about Godzilla and Pacific Rim only makes me less excited. I would like a response to your question though.after seeing Prim, can anyone explain why one should be excited for Godzilla, seems like a less ambitious take on the material in a way.

Still think James Cameron would have pushed this film into record breaking numbers.
I don't think people mind the standard cliches and archetypes of the characters so much as the dialogue and performances/delivery of dialogue.
uh hell yeah
