Paramount Dumps Tom Cruise

man, if this is true i think paramount is making a huge mistake.

tom cruise is tom cruise..no one comes close to this guy. nearly every single movie he has ever made has been a box office success. the m:i movies grossed over 1 billion dollars for christ's sake! no matter what he does in his personal life or the way he lives his life to me he is still a great actor who does phenominal films ( except vanilla sky)

I personally think it's a bad idea for ANY entertainer to publicly criticize another. Especially to that degree. You only make yourself look bad. And you can end up burning a lot of bridges that way.

Yeah it really is. If Cruise's off screen antics are causing the company money then it's good they let him go. He make money for them but still if you are cosing as much as your making then what good is that.

For no longer being bankable, according to the latest reports.

The performance was less than expected. And the featured DVD sales and rental earnings were reportedly bad.

Personally, I didn't enjoy Mission Impossible 3. Can't explain why but I was underwhelmed.

it was less than expected yes. but it did make a hell of a lot of money either way. 45.7 opening weekend is fantastic.

it kind of annoys me because it's almost like the same situation with king kong. it made 50 million, again fantastic, opening weekend..but then websites write.."king kong opens shy at the box office"

Paramount makes crap movies anyways. All their star trek films bombed.

It's about time a talented actor like Tom moves in with FOX. He is a great actor and his personal life shouldn't matter.

War of the worlds was an incredible and smart film. I loved it.

Tom Cruise is my homeboy. I've met him at the Miramar TopGun Station here..He is an awsome person and that's why he has succeded.

On the upside, this pretty much kills any threat of him playing Iron Man.

I'll be fair and say this first: Paramount hasn't made anything special as of late so they probably need Tom because even his crappy unprforming movies must have made some money for the studio and the studio should not have made it personal... that was a sleezy thing to do.

MI3 was a disappointment but I think that is in part do to it being a sequel to a 6 year old movie that sucked and the overhype that TC, the studio and overpredictions put on it.. (Come on people the movie was a long shot to hit 200mil in the U.S it would have been lucky to do 180mil; I thought 170mil-)

Okay I've been fair enough: I don't like Cruise...at all. He is a overrated actor who brought all of the bad media on himself.

Here's the thing a lot of you are overlooking; Paramount is a movie studio. (i know; really?) A movie studio by its very definition is first & foremost in the image-selling business. I'll say it again-the IMAGE-SELLING business. Perception is everything. If they have a high-profile actor whose image is not well-received, whose public perception is likely to be detrimantal to his drawing power (i.e., his ability to put @$$es in seats) then it is wise to cut him loose.
That said, they should also be wary of ventures w/the likes of Robert Downey, Jr. & Charlie Sheen. If they don't clean house of largely unpopular actors across the board, then they are unfairly singling Tom Cruise out & that can be viewed as religious persecution.

DVD sales and rentals are at $0 right now, I wonder why?

Cruise will bounce back from this in the end IMO. Im happy he's leaving, maybe a fresh start will be good for him. EW has a nice article about the matter...they also state that Cruise and Judd Apatow(40 Year-Old Virgin, Anchorman) are in the talks about a comedy for Cruise....which I would love to see.

same here

I think in a way he deserved it; sometimes a star needs a wakeup call, to remind them that their $h!t stinks. I also think he will most likely bounce back, & he deserves that too.

Dude, that idea grew stale long ago. Rest assured Favreau knows better.

You know what I think Tom should do? Spend a couple years quiet. Let people forget about all the **** about him and his statements and attitudes and whatnot. Be discreet for a while. Then come back and do something serious, low-profile. Win some respect back. Then there´s a chance he´ll be back to his old glory days.
