Which would you rather see emerge as a villain in the next film?

I think its unlikely we will see them both (other than a cameo maybe) since they both fill the same villain archetype (business-oriented crime boss) and Nolan likes to mix the villains up (scarecrow/ras, two-face/joker, very different types of baddies)

Pengy! I'd love to see The Penguin.

there really should be an option for both, but penguin has been done before and other than two face and joker, i really dont want rehashed villains, give me something new!

I want Penguin and Black Mask to be the new heads of the mob in Gotham. Not rivals or anything, but working together. Black Mask could be kind of like the Chechen, and Penguin, Maroni. I also think that Rupert Thorne should be brought into the picture somehow.

hmm....but they are basically the same villain. Having them both seems like a waste to me

I don't think they're the same. Having them both would be awesome. It would show how since Joker has come into the picture, other freaks are emerging, and it shows escalation. I think that Penguin and Black Mask could have killed a bunch of mobsters to get where they are including Rupert Thorne who was next in line after Maroni.

I'll go with Black Mask as well.

Comic Penguin has always seemed boring to me which is why I enjoyed the semi-changes given to him in Batman Returns; It actually made him interesting. And I don't see how any writer could make him as interesting as he was in Batman Returns without paling in comparison.

For me, the ideal Penguin interpretation is ruthless crime lord with a napoleon complex and severe self-esteem issues

Black Mask is just ruthless crime lord

Which is why i greatly prefer Oswald. He's a more dynamic, fleshed-out and interesting character

Yeah, Penguin's been done...even if he wasn't comic-accurate.

Time for something new. Plus, having Roman Sionis as the villain gives us a tie to Bruce Wayne as corporate adversaries.

I remember reading that Nolan liked Black Mask so I wouldn't be surprised if Sionis was the villain in 3.

Black Mask as the main villain. Penguin a smaller role. I really dug the rumor of Penguin as a British gunrunner. Black Mask should look like a professional businessman, a popular philanthropist and contemporary of Wayne who hides his dark side from the world.

Throw Catwoman in there too. Maybe use her as a temptation for Bruce, who is now hunted as a villain, to maybe steal some coin. She's also a romantic temptation, as Bruce struggles to get over Rachel.

Perhaps the Black Mask vs. the Penguin? The penguin starts to have a power base, and the black mask does the same. Both want to take over for th very sudden and rapid loss of the main mafia groups. The Penguin is that public mobster, on paper you cannont touch him, but he has his hand in everything illegal. The Black Mask is more ruthless and prefers to get his hands dirty. Both make times hard for Batman.

^that i could live with, but Nolan has kept his villains very different from eachother up until now.

BB: Falcone, Crane, and Ras al Ghul really have nothing in common with eachother, which is why they work so well

TDK: Same with Joker, Maroni, and Two-Face

Penguin and Black Mask, on the other hand, are very similar to eachother.

Sigh...

Kids. No respect for history.

"Black Mask can throw a punch and he TORTURES people! I'll vote for him!"

I don't exactly think the Penguin needs to get "respect". He is a fictional character, its not like he is going to care if he gets passed over. Poor Oswald's feelings won't get hurt.

If Black Mask is the better marketing decision (which I think he probably is) then that is who they should go with. Yes, they should still take the time to make him more unique and not just a Red Skull rip off, but I don't exactly see what makes the Penguin so much better besides he is a more classic villain. Personally I don't care one way or the other who gets picked, but I bet Black Mask action figures would sell a lot better then Penguin ones.

I wouldn't mind penguin, if they never refer to him as penguin, and just oswald, same with Roman Sionis, never referring to him as "the black mask" but you could make hints to that.

I could see the three of them sitting down having dinner together, bruce, oswald, and roman talking about business and there thoughts on the batman, crime, etc. Would be pretty neat to see the three political views, much like how joker was chaos, mr.2face was chance, and batman was safety.

You could have wealth (oswald), power (roman), and loyalty (batman). Would be three interesting concepts between the three.

However, I really doubt were gonna see oswald.

for the very simple reason that the nolan's could do pretty much anything to black mask without most of us fanboys caring, i vote for him.

i think he could be made into a very interesting character, who could tie in well with the themes i would have in a sequel.

of course, penguin may be better suited to whatever nolan wants to do. Alternatively, it might be the case that neither character suits the theme the nolan's want to communicate, nor the stroy they want to tell.

basically, in a non-long-winded way, if i had to choose who i would use, it would be black mask. but that's becuase i have my own idea of what B3 should be.

Penguin is a lot more iconic, memorable, and original. If you hear Batman, he's one of the few Batman villains you think about, like the Riddler and the Joker. I have to give it to him, even though its more likely Nolan would go with BM.

I vote for the rogue with more experience in facing Batman; The Penguin.

Torture and violence don't always make a compelling villain, if that were the case Carnage would be in a Spider-man movie, and all superhero movies would be rated R.

Besides you can just put the Black Mask qualities into Penguin. Of course you can put it the other way around. It's just that the Black Mask seems like an inferior version of Red Skull, at least visually.

Penguin should look like something along these lines:
