I made these awhile back,

I have to say that I am now on the bandwagon of Hoffman for Penguin. But... do you guys really think he's gonna get it? We already have Bale, Caine, Freeman, Oldman, and, apparently, Ledger. This is not gonna turn into the Burton/Schumacher franchise with major actors in all the major roles. I think that The Penguin will be cast with someone along the lines of the status that Cillian Murphy was at when he was cast in the Begins.

Good point... we can't add a huge name for a cameo of all things... it's ridiculous... even if Penguin has a big role in BB3... give the BB2 budget a break...

Philip Seymour Hoffman would make a great Penguin. I'm sure with a little computer magic he can be reduced in height like John Rhys Davies as Gimli.

Still chances are Nolan may likely go for a British actor.

He could fit the role well. He hasn't been in movies for a very long time and will soon appear in an upcoming Robert De Niro film. He's the same age as Bob Hoskins but shorter. Starring as a Batman villain would be a great way for him to come back.

I agree, Pesci could be easily bought with little recent movie roles, and he could bring a cult base towards a character that's unappealing comparied to the likes of scarecrow, joker ect.

In all seriousness I don't think they will put a short fat guy to fight batman thats just rediculous just like in returns.

yes it would be. which is why i think the penguin is best suited to the british arms dealer part, supplying arms to the waring factions of Gothams underworld. Who says anything about the Penguin fighting Batman? It'll probibally be a cameo part about 10 mins screentime if that. He'll probibally not even be called 'The pengin', or it could just be a mobster nickname like Oswald 'the penguin' Cobblepot.

I dont think we need to lower our standards on actors just because of how small the role is.
Considering how small a role(in terms of the entire franchise) Freeman, Liam and even Caine took compared to what they are used to is testament enough that the actors interested in being a part of Nolans Batman arent taking the roles for the money or the character itself.

Id have to go with this Suchet fella out of the 2. He looks more intense.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman looks the role, but the nose wouldnt be long like the pic imo.

David Suchet or Jim Broadbent are the top contenders for me, more Suchet although i liked Broadbent as Boss Tweed in Gangs of New York.


Though one guy i really want to do it is...Joe Pesci. He said he would do a role if it was good enough and seemed like a character he could care for and give it his all. He wont come back and do movies he dont think will work.

So Suchet, Broadbent or Pesci for me.
