Penny Dreadful - Part 1

I saw it as John having a memory of the man he used to be before he died.

That's exactly what it is. Lilly remembered her past life as Brona and way back Proteus started to remember as well. So it's about time Mr. Clare got an inclination of who he once was.

Just finished watching the premier and man! the last part of it gave me chills. "I am...Dracula." lols. Makes me eager to see what's to come. :) Love the episode. :)

It's disappointing that Renfield is a prostitute loving weirdo.

I always thought the tragedy of what the man endured was born out of being turned into something completely at odds with who he was. Tom Waits got it spot on.

Fooling around with a prostitute doesn't make him a weirdo.

He is totally Dracula.

Edit: yeah he may be Dracula. His talk about liking the "broken things" that are ignored does sorta make me think he might be referring to vampires and monsters.

Sucks for Vanessa if he is Dracula. Poor girl just can't seem to catch a break.:(

True enough, but the way he was acting with her I found very creepy.

As for Sweet, if he's Dracula then it's convenient that of all the places Vanessa could have gone to, he's the curator of the museum she ends up in.

Or he could have been lying I suppose.

If not for bad luck, Vanessa would have no luck at all.

I think they might have "pushed" her there. They have a lot of people on the street right now. The doc might even be in on it. The only reason I don't think it is him, is because it seems way too obvious.

Awesomeness :) seriously was I the only one who got chills hearing Dracula's voice? I have a feeling this is going to be an exciting season. Hope it lasts a little bit longer than 3 seasons.

"I love what you've done with the place." :p

This show missed an opportunity to dedicate a few mins showing Vanessa and Viktor as drug buddies. :hehe:

I know some people think Sweet is Dracula but I'm calling him as Satan. My evidence:

1. He's not pale enough to be a vampire.

2. His soothing, pleasant manner of speech kind of reminds me of the Lucifer doll Vanessa sparred off against at the end of season 2.

I think this season will be all about the two brothers vying with each other to get Vanessa.

According to the legend as cited by the legendary scene stealing Lyle: Lucifer & Dracula were Angelic bothers, both cast down after the war for Heaven with Lucifer cast down to Hell, and Dracula down to Earth, and having been 'cleaved apart' were set in eternal enmity. Both are after 'mating' with Vanessa (A vessel for Amunet/Lilith/Mother of all Evil thing etc) to gain the power to reconquer Heaven and assure an apocalypse on Earth.

The 'Wolf of God' (obviously set to be Ethan) is the wild card of the prophecy. Lyle figured this 'mystery guest' could be a threat to the brothers schemes, and I aint gonna argue with a man with such awesome hair.

Lucifer has had his shot at Vanessa via possession and the witches and attempted to seduce her spiritually. Dracula can go after her and seduce her physically.

So it seems like Lucifer cannot have a physical presence on Earth beyond possession (Vanessa herself and the doll) or manipulation of agents (witches).

Dracula obviously does have a physical presence, but has remained hidden until now.

And Dracula is the first of the vamps. Safe to assume he can have powers far beyond the mortals he turns 'in his image', so him being able to take on an alluring mortal form wouldn't seem out of bounds.

This doesn't mean Doctor Sweet has to be the big D (could end up just being a good guy who unwittingly stumbles into this nefarious game. How heartbreaking would that be for Vanessa assuming it wouldn't end well for him?), but if he is one of the 2 brothers then Dracula is the more likely.

I must admit that I almost gave up after S2 as it had a lot of :whatever: moments, especially the whole thing with the Vanessa doll, which I thought was unintentionally hilarious. Imo Josh Hartnett remains as interesting as cardboard, and Reeve Carney is straight up awful - but I think pairing him with Lily was a great idea, Billie Piper is great and will hopefully raise his game.

However, I am Gothic horror trash so decided to stick with it, and am glad I did. Just got caught up on the first episode of S3 last night - very enjoyable. That ending - "My name is Dracula - marvelous!

I think that could still happen with this Renfield. But agreed on Tom Waits -'Bram Stoker's Dracula' is one of my all-time favourite films, I've probably watched it a million times. The production and especially the costume design are just spectacular. Eiko Ishioka was a genius.

Well at least they didn't drag the Dracula reveal out even if it was rather predictable.

I'm glad they got that out of the way. The guy they got is so friggin' charismatic. It's such good casting. [blackout]I had a feeling it's him but I was absolutely sure the moment he declined the coffee. Poor Vanessa. She's so falling for him. [/blackout]:waa: Meanwhile Ethan is a million miles away and will probably hook up with Hecate. My poor shipper heart. :funny:

Can someone explain the deal with Ethan and Kaetane? He seems to want to help Ethan or is that just a ruse? Ethan seems to hate him a lot.

Yeah, I figured it was him. Another great episode, all it needed was Lyle but we can't have everything. :p

I got that Ethan...

..killed most of Kaetane's family and felt bad about it. He asked the Indian to kill him but the old man refused. Now he wants to use Ethan for something but I don't know for what.

God I feel so sorry for Vanessa.:( She can't win for losing.
