Please Help Support X-Men Storm Get Her Own Solo Comics Petition

That's Joe Kelly's doing, not the Image bubble's. He took Liefeld's basically unoriginal character, who was primarily known for more sociopathic ripoffs of Spider-Man one-liners, and turned him into a genuinely engaging character who used humor to cover up his internal struggle between his desire to do good and the ease of doing evil.

But the character somewhat taking off in the pages of X-Force along with the success of the two minis before Kelly's run on Deadpool was what convinced Marvel to go ahead with a Deadpool ongoing.

Again to bring up my boss who really loved Cable, still saw Deadpool as the unoriginal Liefeld incarnation. He had no idea about the more humorous and deeper take on the character. When I introduced him to Cable & Deadpool, he didn't like Deadpool's character at all, he much preferred Liefeld's Deadpool. I really started ripping into him on how Liefeld's Deadpool was nothing but a rip off of DC's Deathstroke character who cracked some one liners like he was Spider-Man.

I can't believe Cable's first series went over 100 issues.
I used to read Cable solo stuff it wasn't that bad. I liked the stuff involving his whole destiny of destroying Apocalypse.

Also it had some decent writers over the run like Jeph Loeb, Fabian Nicieza, James Robinson, Joe Casey and Brian Vaughn.

To last a decade they had to be doing something right.

That's... depressing. :csad:

I don't recall who wrote it but everything leading up to The Twelve was really good. I think it started with 48 and lasted through 77. That run was great.

I also liked the stuff with X-Man and Post... so just shy and including Onslaught.

People who read comics in the 90's are nostalgic of the 90's material that they liked. In my comic book shop the clerk is also fond of a lot of the Image stuff that came out. And while Liefeld isn't my cup of tea, I at least see why people were into it back then.

I don't. It's just bad, bad art. I was fine with it when I was younger because I didn't know any better and I hadn't been as exposed to the likes of the Buscemas, the Romitas, the Kuberts, Steranko, Adams, et al. yet.

women's history month is coming up in March.. it would be good publicity if Marvel can start a new Storm series by then; as of right now there are no ongoings with a solo female lead at Marvel

Black History month is February, just in time for Marvel to cancel Black Panther TMWF.:o

Because they don't sell. No one would buy a Storm ongoing. No. One. And with Marvel taking a more conservative strategy in regards to publishing, it just isn't going to happen.

:pal:

why don't we give Storm a chance? I mean, a lot of female characters have already been given an ongoing like and then Storm didn't have one. so she should at least be given a chance.

Marvel is slashing series that are selling. Make no mistake they aren't going to run a series about Black Panther's wife when his series is getting cancelled.

Plus storm hasn't been interesting since she and forge broke up. She breaks wind and says goddess a lot and now she's a queen and crap. Who is this relating to except people looking for wack material?

Except now is not the time to give chances to books that aren't going to sell. Storm is not going to sell. The X-Men line just cannot handle solo titles for the time being.

Please support the Storm petition.

So out of curiousity... what Marvel female character do you guys think COULD support an ongoing?

I, sadly, can't think of one. At least, none of the heroes. Maybe an interesting twist on a villain, like the old Mystique ongoing, could work.

None, they don't have an A-list heroine at Marvel like DC has with Wonder Woman. they have a ton of B-listers. Besides, Marvel is full of woman haters it would seem. If I was EiC @ Marvel I would challenge all of my writers at the first creative summit of 2012 to provide Marvel with their first major A-list female character by 2013. Unfortunately in this rocky sales climate it would be tough to experiment with a new female ongoing but if you ask me, the writers at Marvel need a good challenge like that.

IMHO the ONLY way it could work would be her being allowed to cut loose.

She's limited by how much damage she is willing to do,....

Start by tossing her,... on second thought I'm not putting out ideas,...

But while I would enjoy it for as long as it would last,.. the majority of those answering here are right,.. her solo with the restrictions put on the character can't last.

I miss that series. Elektra's too. I didn't actually read that much of Elektra's, but I liked what little I did. Mystique's was just all kinds of awesome, though. That's how you do a covert operative for the X-Men.

Anyway, I'd like to think She-Hulk could support an ongoing again in the right hands. Maybe Fred Van Lente if they want to go for a comedic feel again or a hot up-and-comer like Aaron or Remender if not.

I guess they could give Ms. Marvel another shot. As indifferent as I am to her, I have to admit that she's about as close to a Wonder Woman-type character as the Marvel universe has got.

She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel probably would have the highest rate of successful ongoing.

And yet, they're two of the characters that I have the least amount of interest in.

I wonder if maybe a female book incognito. Like how Jessica Jones had a solo book but it wasn't called Jessica Jones or Jewel... it was Alias, the name of her company.

I could potentially see Jessica having an ongoing again dealing with the Alias/Superhero angle. Now that she has a family to play off of, more connections due to the Avengers, and more of the audience being familiar with her... it could be worth a shot.

Something like a mainstream Marvel equivelent of X-Factor. Guest staring Avengers as needed. Regular guest stars Luke Cage (husband), Ms. Marvel (best friend), and Squirrel Girl (nanny). It could maybe work.

It'd be a bit awkward given how hard Bendis has hammered into readers' heads that she wants nothing to do with superheroes or costumes anymore.

I vote that people start a new thread about Marvel female ongoing series and let this sad sad thread finally die.

None. As a matter in fact, almost all of Marvel's characters cannot support an ongoing right now. The only characters in Marvel right now that can support steady solo ongoings are Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Daredevil, the Punisher, and Deadpool. Nine characters, that's quite sad if you think about it.

In order to promote all their other characters, Marvel has to rely on team books like Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, Thunderbolts, and Fantastic Four.

Honestly I think you're stretching even those. Punisher and Deadpool are struggling to support ongoings and likely won't last too much longer if I had to guess. Even Daredevil isn't blowing up the charts, despite how good it is.

Personally, I prefer team books but I do see the problem here.

Good idea. We're very much off topic in this thread anyhow, why not make one more appropriate? I'll be heading off to do that right now.

I was honestly thinking about that, but I think it might be a little too soon to say that the Punisher and Deadpool cannot support one ongoing. I certainly won't be surprised to see the Punisher and Deadpool not being able to support one ongoing within the year though.

It isn't blowing up the charts, but it's not struggling yet.
