Plot Details

Ah, but you must take into consideration that in this world there are two kinds of fairy tale critters - those we know from childhood stories, and those conjured up by the twisted, brilliant mind of Guillermo del Toro. I bet the fairies we see are not quite what we expect.

HM

I was thinking the exact things.

The plot sounds good, but really the best thing about Hellboy is the character relationships, so that's what I am looking forward to the most.

For those interested in what Guillermo has up his sleeve. Read the story he wrote for HELLBOY: ODDER JOBS.

It's towards the back of the book and is called (I think) TASTY TEETH. It pits Kate Corrigan and Hellboy up against a swarm of fairies. Should give you an idea of what kind of action we might see in this new movie.

I'm seriously looking forward to this! The first Hellboy totally rocked on so many levels. I can't imagine anyone else doing Hellboy besides Perlman, and Del Toro will deliver the goods with the fairy folk.

I'm also glad to see Abe Sapian getting more time as well. If I had any knock on the first film, it was that we didn't really see any fight scenes with Abe. From what I hear, we'll see more in the second movie.

It's a great premise, with a great balance of action and character development.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Thats what i did like about the plot description, a lot of character moments were mentioned, which should make for great viewing.

So far I'm not liking this plot description much at all. I WAS looking forward to this movie, but now I think I might prefer the animated flicks.

I mean, Liz getting lured away by damned Johann Strauss, the guy who's just a cloud of ectoplasm in a glass bubble? I'm so sick and tired of the Hollywood desire to always "threaten to split up the couple" in every sequel just because they don't know what the **** else to do. Stephen Sommers tore this tendency a new bunghole in interviews regarding The Mummy Returns, and whatever you may think about Sommers, he was definitely right about this - it's completely stupid that couples can't stay together in the movies and STILL have adventures and drama.

Also, not even mentioning Meyers - the man who Broom hand-picked to replace him after his death? Uh, yeah, that's... pretty much bull and isn't exactly treating the first flick with respect and all. You have to at least have him cameo, otherwise what was that all about?

The rest sounds fine, although I could do without an Abe romantic subplot.

And since Del Toro has recently indicated that he's going to use Doug Jones' actual voice in the sequel and cut David Hyde Pierce out of the proceedings entirely, well, that kinda bugs me too just for continuity reasons.

I understand your comments, but GDT is one director who can surely make this scenario work.

I'm completely fine with Myers not appearing in the second, as I felt he was completely unnecessary in the first. So I don't see it as disrespecting the continuity of the first, I see it as correcting an error; it's for the benefit of the movie. I'd concede to the point about splitting couple up though.

I never thought he was completely unnecessary; I enjoyed the character the first time, and thought he provided a good gateway for introducing Hellboy's strange BRPD world.

However, even if you feel that way, this is still a sequel to the first film. It'd be one thing if it was ignoring that movie and starting from scratch, but it's not... and as such, ignoring the fact that Myers was hired by Broom to replace him in a fairly pivotal BRPD role after his death, with Myers playing a major role in the first film for that very reason... well, it's super-lame in my eyes, because you can't just pick and choose which pieces of continuity you want to follow. That'd be like making a sequel to Superman II where you just decide to pretend that Lois DIDN'T get her memory erased at the end, but you still try to follow everything else.

Oh.. wait.

Well I suppose the filmmakers did, otherwise they wouldn't be writing him out.

Too bad their own script for the first one contradicts that. :down Typical.

They wrote in an element that wasn't in the comic, realized it was a mistake, and are rectifying the situation.

Honestly, not many people are going to miss Myers.

Ignoring continuity doesn't rectify any mistakes - it simply creates brand-new ones.

Give him a cameo, talk about him being somewhere off-screen, but you can't ignore him completely or else it's a severe cock-up.

If I have one rule for ALL storytelling formats, it is this - CONTINUITY IS ABSOLUTE LAW.

Yeah, a cameo or throwaway comment is necessary IMO.

Nowhere did anyone say that they weren't going to give an explanation for Myers not being in the second movie, like he was just going to disappear into thin air and never be mentioned. I'm sure they'll create a reason for him not being there. But effectively writing him out doesn't mean they're ignoring continuity. They're altering it, which is entirely within their means to do so.

Good stuff but i'm bummed that there won't be any Myers. Not even a mention.:( In my opnion he should have a role in the sequel. I like his character in HB1.

I notice there isn't much talk about Manning. Well, any talk...but it says everyone but Myers is back, so I assume he's in there. I can't wait to be

there's another Hellboy comign out?... AWESOME! I loved the first one.

that article is kickass, good find.

i actually like the idea of Abe having a crush on this princess character - aslong as its not overthetop as the Hellboy/Liz thing.

if you've ever read "Bones of Giants", abe had a really sweet relationship with this folklorist - it never really developed into anything but it was there. id be chuffed if it was something like that in the film :)

Fairytales. Hmmph. This is something I don't like the sound of.

I used to be a fan of Charmed, and come season five, they went crazy with the fairytales, and carried them on through season six. The show became too light and fluffy, and fully of childish humour fitting for a two year old. My experience of fairytales isn't a good one.

I like the idea of a Prince and Princess. They can be done relative moodily. I just hope these fairytale creatures aren't going to be happiness and light. It will make the movie unwatchable for me.

Remember, the plot info (and there is no reason to believe this is the final story by any means) says the Prince and Princess are the children of the King of the woodland Ghouls. Certainly not what you could call fluffy, and I hope they are as weird and as quirky as only Guillermo del Toro can make them.

I'm pretty sure they will be.
