I'd like to see this.

Me too! I like it for the dark tone. I'd like to see that one or something like this:

I would like to see the Joker with short hair or with a terrible cut (he cut his hair by himself in a very bad and mad way). Also I see him wearing black clothes, something like a black, rough, turtleneck and a black pair of trousers. I see him wearing wool during the summer or better, I see him never changing his costume because the Joker is definitely lost in his own madness. He wears an all-black costume just like a dramatic arts actor on stage, and the stage is Gotham!
:)

No black clothes! That's missing the whole point about Joker's look. He's the Yin to Batman's Yang. While Batman is dark and somber and scary, he at first sight might be thought a bad guy, but he is a hero, The Joker is bright and colorful, and at first glance appears to be nothing but a jolly clown, yet he is quite dangerous and evil. It is this direct contrast that makes Joker the prefect arch-enemy for Batman. It's as important that he be bright and colorful as it is for Batman to be dark and scary. Joker is scary too, but only because of the direct contrast between his look and his behavior

Yes, you're right but even if I think that today Batman is more a grey type heroic figure instead of a white one (who wears black!) I don't care about clothes. We've got a tremendous Scarecrow, dressed just in a suit, with jacket and necktie but keeping is trademark burlap sack mask. He worked so well that I dreamed more screen time for the character for months after the movie release (and I still hope to see more from the Scarecrow). This time (and I emphasize this time because we have already got a good '89 bright and colorful Jolly Joker) I want a Joker who really is the Joker, the wild card, who works alone and is unforeseeable. A solitary madman killer so difficult to stop in a big city like Gotham. So I want a smiling Joker who acts like the Joker but it is not necessarely a clown-around Joker. In this case only the smiling face and the modus operandi will define the character. If we have accepted that "it's what you do that defines you" I will accept a figure that synthetizes and collects the essence of the original character even if it is not just like the classic violet suit version.

P.S. By the way I think that Batman Beyond Return Of The Joker all-black mr. J rocks!

P.P.S. The yin/yang story is always interesting but I would suggest to keep this story for the sole Two-Face character when the new version will be developed to screen by Nolan (I must say for the first very time, let's forget about the crappy Tommy Lee Jones version). He really is the black and the white figure at the same time and I sincerely hope that Nolan will take Two-Face to the limit.

P.P.P.S. Very sorry for my not so correct English.
:)

He looks so silly with the birght purple and big bowtie sometimes. It wouldn't translate that well on screen. I think maybe a black suit with purple pinstripes would look good. Maybe some maroon in there. Actually, I think he should have kind of a change of looks throughout the film, and eventually at the end look more like the normal Joker, like what happend with the scarecrow. Except hopefully toned down colors.

There is also a strong tradition in depicting the Joker with an elegant b/w tuxedo from the Red Hood...

...to the funereal tux from "a death in the family" ...

...Tim Burton in the 1989 ( the pen, is truly mightier than the sword)...

...to Alex Ross!

There is also the unforgettable all-white version by Frank Miller in Batman the dark knight returns.

But after all this, whatever look he will get in the next movie, I sincerely hope Nolan's Joker will be like this:

(from DC Secret Origins special #1, 1989)

A lonely, wide hat and trenchcoat killer Joker!

As soon as I saw this, the first thing that popped into my head was "that is EXACTLY what we are going to get in 2008."
Good ****ing job, my man.

I see this joker with less of the clown fashion and more of the "mobster fabulous" look. 3 piece purple tuxedo with necktie comes to mind. The purple 3 piece suit with white shirt and white bowtie is good also. That and black tux with bowtie.

Purple gloves nice.

No oddlong guns please this time.

This is an interesting take on the Joker. It's not perfect, but I think it's workable. I'd lose the piercings and grow out the hair a bit. Otherwise, it's a Joker I think could fit in the Nolan-verse fine without betraying the original standard of the character.

lol the purple leather stuff needs to go. The face, not bad... i like the contacts. Some classy suits with color coordination and thatd be pretty good.

Id perhaps dye jokers hair dark green though.

NO!!! That's no Joker.

Well, the basic scheme could look much better on ledger. Maybe longer hair too. Permutations of it could be a look id like. Although theres a good range of appearances that i wouldnt mind. There can be lots of good creations made... even if only 1 gets chosen for a flick.

I'd like Joker to have darker tones in his suits, if it's going to be purple, then I prefer a dark purple. I just think it would fit with the tone of Nolan's rendition of Batman. I'm leaning toward the Alex Ross interpretation. And I hope they do a really good job in the makeup department, the skin condition has got to be convincing. This Joker figure is very good:

Exactly what I was going to post.

Yea those are good in suits, but they look like Jack Nicholson heh

I don't see how it isn't the Joker. There is no one representation of the Joker. He's been portrayed in numerous different ways, with a few constants. This version has a white face, green hair, and red lips just like all other Jokers. He wears garish colours. He has a trench coat, which in my opinion is better than a business suit. I also like the fact that it's white, which contrasts with Batman's black. It is the Joker, just a different spin. Looks change over time dude, it's not a bad thing.

I do feel Joker needs to look like a professional criminal, someone who sees himself as one of great importance. Suits get my vote, but better coordinated than Nicholsons.

 Yeah, that's right on. Joker is one of the least "nailed down" characters in the DCU. Everyone writing him has a different take. Nolan choosing Ledger is only the first of many decisions fans of the traditional Joker are going to flip out about. I'd much rather see a reimagined version of Joker than what Burton did. You know what I mean fat, 20 years batman's senior and murderer of his parents.

Im very fond of the contacts idea tho mcallima. That has potential.

Well, that's certainly the oddest Joker interpretation I've ever seen. Lose the purple S&M gear, make his shirt collared, and change his hair, and we may be at an area where it's workable. Still, it wouldn't be what I'd prefer to see.

The Joker looks like this:
SaturdayJuly302005.jpg

He wears a suit, usually an elegant one. This indicates he has a class and taste(for a homicidal sociopath). Your suggestion for The Joker's apperance goes against all of this. He is just some punk in white make-up, not fit lick The Joker's spats.

The Joker is not a punk. He is not some drag queen diva. He does not wear spandex, put on lipstick, or dye his hair. He doesn't run around in a straight jacket with no shoes and he doesn't have a carved smile or peicings.

There is one definative version of The Joker. You just blind yourself to it.
