Action-Adventure Power Rangers 4.0 - Part 2

It feels like yesterday we had the bizarre tire face rangers.

I remember thinking Go-Onger would be hard to make a cohesive PR season from— but RPM was really well done. I need to rewatch it again.

Knowing about all the s**t he went through back in the day because of his sexual orientation, and after all other cast members from the various other shows becoming problematic and controversial, it’s nice to see someone who isn’t a complete piece of s**t or total loon make a comeback, get the recognition he rightfully deserves and be completely thriving. Not to mention, out of all the still living original cast members, he, along with Amy Jo Johnson and Walter Emmanuel Jones, have probably aged the best.

Good on you, David!

I'm assuming it'll be a reimagining of MMPR rather than a new iteration of Power Rangers since that's where the money's at.

I’m actually floored Disney wants to get involved with the franchise again as a TV show, even though Hasbro still owns it. I guess the show runners had to get the Mouse House involved if they wanted to use material from the 1995 film. 20th Century owns MMPR:TM outright, plus distribution on T:APRM— so getting 20th Television on board is a major clue that’s where they’re going.

I hope it happens. SHOCKED that Disney is the one that wants it though

I mean, not really when you think about it. Disney clearly sees YA content as their key content for Disney+, what with the Holes show announced. Power Rangers can fit into that easily. And Power Rangers was a hit for Netflix. We could have gotten Cosmic Fury S2 if Hasbro wasn't being jerks.

i’m actually more shocked it took so long and didn’t happen until now.

I mean, you have YA market and a built-in fan base of the original. It’s superheroes, giant robots fighting giant monsters, interpersonal conflicts, girl power, action, dramatic rivalries, romance, etc. That’s practically their bread and butter at this point. And it’s basically got all of the trappings and tropes of a live action anime, so you’ve also got that demographic as well.

Also, it’s not like this is the first time Disney had had their hands on this franchise. Remember Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, S.P.D., Mystic Force, Jungle Fury, and RPM? Some of the better Power Rangers shows, all made under Disney. (Except for Operation Overdrive. We don’t talk about that.)

I’d imagine if they don’t go to VFX heavy, it could end up being cheaper to make than a lot of their other shows and they could get more bang for their buck.

This is the easiest slam dunk they could ever make.

They barely cared about the franchise when they purchased it....and it was dirty cheap. They sold it back so going back to a property they once owned....not very Disney like

BUt I forgot about my Jason crush back in the day

Trini and Tommy died, Jason is a crook, Billy was prejudiced out of a job, and Zack is missing a finger. 😞

Different times, different markets. They bought Power Rangers to shore up their boys market. Well, they made a few bigger purchases after that. Also, the Disney/ABC Saturday morning block was dying. I also suspect there were weird issues with Toei in the contracts they had.

We will see how the Percy Jackson people handle it.

I do look forward to new complaints about "woke casting".

I made it seem like Tommy was my favorite Ranger as a kid but deep down I know my favorite was actually Kimberly. She was my first real crush and I use the word "real" literally because before her it was Ariel, Belle and Jasmine. :o Also I pretty much lost interest in Power Rangers after she left the show so what does that tell you?

Same man. All this.

I held a lot of irrational hate to her Katherine replacement too. :sneeze:

I still implore you guys to catch Kakuranger if you ever get the opportunity.

SO good and still my favorite super sentai season.

That whole Kimberly arc was SOOO GOOD. And then there's poor little AIsha who got nothing even though she was promised a Kim-like exit.

That was some bull what they did to Aisha.

I remember watching the ABC Family reruns of MMPR S3 and I was impressed back then. Amy Jo Johnson was good in MMPR despite the questionable writing. “A Different Shade of Pink” was decently written and let AJJ explore the less perkier side of Kimberly.
