I'll be honest, I read that synopsis after hearing it was fake and thought it was fantastic as an Alien prequel, with some amazing ideas, especially with Fassbender's character, now hearing it may be true I am gutted I read it, but if thats what transpires in the movie I think it will be amazing.

even if the synopsis is fake i want the fassbender's story to be true...

you know that someone was going to ask this. my questions are very simple.

did the writters writte Alien with sexual undertones in mind and based on the story called HR Giger. OR did they just writte an alien horror movie and after HR Giger started working on the movie his love for sexual undertones was included in the movie designes. because all the designes with sexual undertones is something that HG Giger likes himself.

my memory from Alien is all from when i was a young kid. and then i didnt understand the sxual undertones. did anyone watch the first movie as an adult and notice all the undertones and did you notice the penis on the Alien?

The sexual undertones were written by Dan O'Bannon long before he even finalized the script. He had *every* intention of making a movie about rape. Specifically, homosexual rape. The alien motif evolved around it. In his own words:

"One thing that people are all disturbed about is sex... I said 'That's how I'm going to attack the audience; I'm going to attack them sexually. And I'm not going to go after the women in the audience, I'm going to attack the men. I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs. Homosexual oral rape, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number.'"

As a matter of fact, Giger's imagery came about at O'Bannon's own suggestion. They more or less teamed up to come up with as many penis and vagina images as they could get away with, and Ridley Scott was merrily along for the ride.

There's a complete write-up over at cracked which you can read, but be *WARNED*....plenty of cussin' there, if you're the easily offended type.

They were all men in the original, the moster had tentacles akimbo, the facehugger inserted "a throbbing member" down the men's throats, and it was horrible. HORRIBLE. Like a chicken.

Add to that Giger's psycho-sexual style and what Scott implied with Lambert and the movie is....much creepier. Also, it's less clear if it's hunting people solely for food and Queen-egg fodder like in the sequel. It makes the monster's motives that much less defined and scarier. Thus a better movie.

Part of the horror they were going for was the idea of male rape and impregnation. The Facehugger basically rapes Kane and impregnates him.

That kind of concept was and still is pretty ****ing horrifying for a guy. And I guess with that you could say Alien was one of the first movies to actually target the males in the audience.

Movie budget breakdown: What are the riskiest films of 2012?

http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/11/29/movie-budgets-2012/
Prometheus — $100 million
Ridley Scott’s return to sci-fi looks fascinating and has been burning up the Internet with relentless “Is it an Alien prequel?” speculation. But Internet-buzz doesn’t always translate into actual box office: Shed another tear for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. If Prometheus is a genuine original property — if the title doesn’t quietly morph to Alien Origins: Prometheus in the next few months — then it will have to compete for attention in a summer filled with recognizable titles. (Note that all of 2011′s biggest flops were non-sequels.) And it’s been a long time since the movie-going public paid attention to a dark sci-fi movie not directed by Christopher Nolan. The film reportedly has a budget of $100 million, which isn’t much nowadays, but the need for a big marketing push makes this a gamble.

You know what's funny...I realize they were going for heavy sexual undertones...but I never "got that" when I was watching the movies. I just thought the designs looked cool. That's all :P

Based on that trailer and those mag scans, I can guarantee this movie wont be risky at all considering the $100 budget.

An R rated 100million budgeted film is always a gamble. That's a sad and true fact.

Yea i don't think it'll be that risky. 100 million is quite modest these days. And we're talking about a film that will be hyped beyond belief next year. It's got a few recognisable actors, i'm sure the trailers will be amazing. And whatever Scott and co say now about it's links to the Alien movies, have no doubt those links will be played up in the marketing once release gets closer.

And it isn't R rated is it? Even if it is I think it could overcome that hurdle.

Is the R rating confirmed? I remember he was going back and forth on PG-13 and a R rating for the theaters.

If at 250? Yes it would be a risk but if it's a smash hit people will be saying

"This was only made on 100 million! and it made back triple what it cost"

Does anyone know how much it cost to make the original "Alien"?

I wonder if Ridley is trying copy what made the first movie in 1979 so successful with a similar budget.

i know that the budget is over 150 million because the sets are huge and because its an effects heavy movie realesed in summer. its also an Ridley Scott movie . Prometheus based on the scope can not be cheaper than Robin Hood in 2010.

but a 100 million movie could be R rated. the studio would IMO realese it with a R rating. lets hope for the best

Scott said he was making two cuts for the studios and would let them decide.

Would a PG-13 rating make anyone angry or worried?

Not really, since he is making two cuts, and may have made specific shots for each rating. That and I believe he said that regardless of what the theatrical release is, we will get the R version on Blu-ray. At least that's what I remember hearing.

you are both aware that its not that simple right?

It's a film based on a calssic franchise that is being buzzed up online for nearly a year before release, there's no way this film will be a gamble.
