Yes the Space Jockey!!!

Now I haven't really kept up with this movie. I only know it's directed by Ridley Scott. Is this a true prequel to the first Alien movie? Or is it an original story unrelated to the Alien movies?

Prequel.

So is it pretty much confirmed that the trailer was released with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? And it's a prequel to Alien!? :wow: I thought it was it's own original story!

It has it's own original story that takes place before Alien. It's not going to be your average prequel.

i dont understand why fans are so defending that its not just a normal prequel.its about the f. space jockey for the love of god. if the space jockey was not inside the movie i would leave you alone. but it is about him.

Yeah, it has THE Space Jockey and THE derelict ship (well duh, because the SJ and its chair are inside it...) from Alien (1979) in it!

Plus the logos on the vehicles and crew shirts are definitely Weyland.

I think it's because most prequels are films about the characters leading up to the original film. Well as you know none of the characters are in this movie nor are the aliens from the original. The common link though is the backdrop and some elements that will be delved in to this time around. So it really isn't a straight prequel. If you say it is then people that don't follow all the info in the internet will go in thinking a younger Ripley would be in it or that they would be seeing the xenomorphs everyone is so familiar with.

We'll, see but I'm quite certain the Space Jockey and its ship are the same ones as in Alien.

They are, that's why I said some elements and the backdrop are connected but none of the characters are.

You don't count the Jockey as a character?

He's just part of the scenery in Alien and you never really think about him in the franchise. It is a character now though.

Do we have any indication of the time the HD trailer will go up on Apple tommorow?

I think many people, including me, disagrees with you.

I'm sure many people like you notice and think about many details when seeing a movie but the common moviegoer was not wondering what that giant man sitting in the chair was all about while they were watching a movie about people being stalked and killed one by one in a spaceship. The existence of the being was just there and didn't do anything to the story of the movie therefor can't really be called a character in Alien.

I'm a big film buff and never gave the space jockey much thought.

When watching lord of the rings, and you see the skeleton of the dead dwarf in balins tomb, do you consider that a character in the movie, as you would aragorn or legolas? No. The space jockey was a dead body with no name, lines, or actions in one scene and was never even mentioned again in any sequel.

Yeah, same here. It's been a long time since I've seen Alien, but I had honestly forgotten all about that thing.

It would be funny if this kicks off a new trend in which movie studios decide to make "vague prequels" to movies based around random pieces of scenery.
