That's because he intentionally no-sold it.

"When we started shooting it had been tacitly agreed that the version of the film that we had agreed upon was the version without voiceover narration. It was a ****ing nightmare. I thought that the film had worked without the narration. But now I was stuck re-creating that narration. And I was obliged to do the voiceovers for people that did not represent the director's interests. I went kicking and screaming to the studio to record it."

"What I remember more than anything else when I see Blade Runner is not the 50 nights of shooting in the rain, but the voiceover ... I was still obliged to work for these clowns that came in writing one bad voiceover after another.

Aye, but thinking about it now, the funny thing is, that is exactly why the performance suits the film, because Dekard has been brought back to work under the exact same circumstances, and carries the same attitude to his work throughout the film.

I prefer the cut without the vo, but I can see why some folk prefer it, they like that downtrodden PI vibe it brings, and I can also see why I didn't mind it back in ye olden pre-DC days.

I'm convinced that Ford got himself piss drunk when doing that narrating piece. I'm not kidding either you can hear the slurring caused by alcohol throughout that entire narration.

Is good point. I always liked it myself.

Hope my dvd gets here before the weekend, I'm interested in comparing the different versions.

That's my reason.

I love hearing Darabont talk about film. He's so passionate and sincere and doesn't give a **** what anyone else might think.

Aye, it is really sh** in that scene, haha.

Ford sounds like Plinkett throughout the entire thing. The RedLetterMedia guy who reviewed the Star War movies. :funny:

I completely agree with him.

Yeah Darabont is right on the mark. I mean WTF!? is this for goodness sake:

I will say this. The narration voice over by Ford is quite possibly one of the funniest things I've ever heard. It's so deadpan, drunk and disinterested that it makes for a hilarious viewing of an otherwise great movie.

I wouldn't recommend the theatrical version to anyone watching the movie for the first time that much is for certain but if you're already a fan it doesn't hurt to watch it just for the "lawlz".

I saw the 'Dangerous Days' making of doc recently, and that was the first time I saw any footage of the vo version in many years, hell, perhaps the last time I saw it was back in 91 at the cinema.
The only scene i recall seeing in the doc was the opening narration iirc, and it did not sound that bad at all in that scene, it did fit the attitude Ford was carrying in the scene.
and y'know, back in the day, when I was a young teenage scamp, I did not mind it so much, it is far better without it, but I would not so readily mock people who also like that version, it's a bit snide.

edit: I'm sure that folk who like the vo version as well, know that the vo is wonky in *that* scene, it's pretty insulting to insinuate that the posters who said they did like it, like it in *that* scene.

I mean, coming in after a couple of posters have said they like the vo version, and posting this...you just sound like an ass.

I'm not mocking anyone for liking it. I'm making fun of that drunken mess of a narration.

The only one to blame is WB for forcing Ridley Scott to do this when he didn't want to and forcing Ford kicking and screaming into the studio to record lines for something he was completely against.

Ford absolutely made the right choice in getting completely hammered before doing this disservice to a great movie by Scott. I would have done the same. The entire thing was a sham so he treated it as such.

Don't talk like a child. marcvader and Whiskey Tango just said they liked the vo version, and I said I didn't mind it so much back in the pre-Dc days, so you came in with a post that was designed to make people feel stupid for liking the vo version.
That's exactly what it was, not that I give a **** so much, I'm not the one you are calling stupid, I'm just pointing out that you're talking in a way I bet you wouldn't if you were sitting with people in the pub.

I'd absolutely say the same thing in a pub directly at your face. The voice over was horrible if someone liked it that's absolutely fine.

I'm free to state how big of a joke I think the entire thing is however. It's not like Ford or Scott would disagree with me.

As always you're being overly sensitive and exaggerating this entire thing out of proportion.

I thought the narration was awful in the movie. Let the movie show it, not tell it, I believe

*waits for Bum to call me pretentious and snobby and have a childlike hissy fit about how everyone is against him*

eh, I bet you would have coaxed the point in a less mocking manner face to face, unless y'know, you wanted to be trying to deliberately trying to make people feel stupid and bring a bad vibe to the table, you were making a jerky mcjerk style post there.
I'm not overly sensitive, I'm just right, i passed my Voight Kamp test, I'm frickin frying a turtle in the kitchen right now, smells amazing, like an unflushed pee pee toilet.

Ah, an unflushed pee pee toilet. Cool story, bro.

That goes up there way up there on the no one cares scale.

eh, I agree, I already said so, I was just pointing out he was being a jerk to the folk who do like the vo.
I mean, Frank Darabont obviously had his religious experience screwed with a bit there, but myself, I probably just frickin let Ford get away with the wonky vo in that scene cause he was Han solo and Indiana Jones, and in my teenage mind, the guy could do no wrong! haha, or, y'know, maybe I even thought myself, eh, bit intrusive there that voiceover.
Anyway, my point was, the tone of his post was a totally jerky mcjerk face.

'cool story bro', holy moses, you really are never ever gonna get anywhere creatively by leaning on these internet phrases all the time.

it's not a huge deal, as I said on the last page I haven't seen Blade Runner since I was a teenager. The part in the Darabont clip was pretty frikkin awful but I really don't remember it being that jarring thru the entire movie. I guess I never gave it much thought.

Dammit USPS why is my dvd just sitting in memphis? :argh:
