Okay, I think I'm going to try and avoid this thread as much as I possibly can for the next couple weeks or so. There's too much stuff being posted in "Spoilers" throughout this thread that would be hard not to click and spoil for myself.

Once I actually see the movie in about three weeks, I'll venture back into this thread again.

Alien is pretty phallic, and in fact, Giger's whole concept is about the fear of women. That's the interesting aspect of all the Alien sthetic.

Oh ya, it truly is the core of that entire story. And it's what elevated Sigourney (at least to me) as one of the greatest Female heroes. Her maternity and feminism is not dumbed down and pushed towards her just acting like a guy. She keeps her female aspects, but still shows great strength and power.

Ya I love the mother vs mother fight. Both are just trying to protect their young.

That's why Ellen Ripley in Aliens is my favourite female (action or otherwise) character of all time. I know many people like Sarah Connor in T2, but she had the problem as Vasquez in Aliens - trying to act too much like tough-talking macho men, and most women simply aren't like that. Ripley was unique in that her individuality and vulnerability as a woman was kept in tact, while at the same time showed how tenacious, unyielding and utterly uncompromising a mother can become when the fate of her babies is put on the line. She's terrified, yet essentially walks into the jaws of death with a resolve that men can only dream of. And the best part of it was that it could be any responsible mother in Ripley's position and you know that she'd do the same without any hesitation. It was such a powerful and open statement about female empowerment that you can't help but scratch your head in disbelief why characters like Ripley aren't more commonplace in movies today.

I've known it had a lot of sexual themes in it, including rape but gay rape is a first for me as well

I've never said gay rape, it's just rape. There is more then just phallic symbols, there are many vaginal and just female sides of sexuality, such as birth, impregnation and many of the designs in the derelict spacecraft. The alien "rapes" Lambert so, I don't think it is one sided by any means.

If that is really what it does then this movie is going to be more gross than I thought. Awesome!

That's insane that's extremely unsettling, but also fairly interesting, seems like it'll take the whole birth concept introduced in Alien and completely flip it on it's head. I can't wait to see how Ridley explores that.

I can't tell the differences between the Engineers and the Space Jockeys. I just guessed at which one it was.

They are the same thing and the blueish suit he wears underneath the classic SJ suit seems to be biomechanical as well

I hope that tentacled creature has more than just tentacles, I wanna see a biomechanical body ,arms, legs and a damn scary mounstrous face and not just a mass of tendrils/tentacles. I wanna see something that becomes iconic just like the xenomorph did in 79.

Kane gets basically orally raped by the face huggers tube that lays the embryo. You can also see it in the shot in Prometheus as well where the snake thing is forcing itself down Rafe Spall's characters throat.
