The bits I didn't enjoy were the Alien tie in so I blame whoever was responisible for that, director, script writer or Fox. I love this movie when it's its own thing.

My theory..

Is that the engineers never wanted to create life. That was a rogue engineer in the first scene...creating life of earth against the wishes of the others. I believe the engineers are actually bent on destruction and destroying life. So they can rule over the universe. That would explain why the surviving one was so aggressive at the end of the film. They are the anti-god. They never wanted us. So they were coming back to wipe us out. They were also trying to design the perfect weapon, or killing machine, thus the xeno producing black goo. The rogue engineer decided to use that goo to create life instead. That was never its' purpose of course. That was their "nuclear" bomb, and it blew up in their face.

Nope, still doesn't fit for me in a dramatically satisfying way. I think it's just liquid plot device. Just pour and get through your next major set piece!

I didn't mind the 'liquid DNA', but they never really debated/talked about it on screen. They just never really explained anything or came to any onscreen conclusions or theories. I guess I was hoping for more of an explanation or something into the 'Alien DNA' and its progression. I guess I have to assume the 'penis aliens' were early face huggers;which brings me to another issue. The face hugger that grew to mammoth like proportions it just didn't sit well with me for some reason.
I also wasn't a big fan of the ending sequence I know this wasn't the same planet as Alien, but man it would of been better if ending sequence was of the 'engineer on his chair and having his chest burst out with an xenomorph.
I did like the 'Engineers' I thought they were well done and kind of wished more interaction with them or back round. Heck, maybe they will make a sequel to this and explain more??
Overall it was an okay movie, visually it was good, but had some flaws story wise. Didn't know if it wanted to be a stand alone movie or tie-in with Alien.

I think the difference is the characters in Prometheus didn't really know each other before the mission. Its not like the crew of nostromo, marines, prisoners or betty crew who all had history and bonds with each other.

Most the Prometheus crew were professsionals there for answers or the money.

I didn't have problem with that personally.

Maybe to them it's not about ruling, maybe they just want to destroy. Again, just a theory. This would kind of make them 100x less interesting the more I think about it however. So there will have to be more depth than just "Evil beings" bent on destruction.

Loved the film. I hope we learn more about the engineers motivations in a future film.

Um, maybe you need to watch the movie a few more times.

Those "penis aliens" were nothing more than the worms that were shown when the crew entered the room for the first time.

Yep. I kind of dig that we it wasn't spelled out for us. There is a lot of intended mystery with this film, but to me, it still feels like a complete film. There is just tons more to explore.

If they never wanted to create us, explain the cave paintings. They made contact with humanity long before we had any type of technology. They could have wiped us out. They didn't. Also, the lone Engineer in the beginning is left on the planet. We clearly see some type of ship leaving. It would seem he was left there for a purpose.

And I know this is not part of the film, but the art book reveals a second Engineer looking over the self sacrificing one.

I haven't stopped thinking about this film since yesterday. There's still glaring problems, but I can see myself enjoying it more and more over time. I do wish the 3rd act was less concerned with action and mayhem, and had more of the uncertainty and exciting possibilities of the first hour or so.

My issue with that was the manifestations from the alien goo seems too arbitrary. So you have to go through all that to create a Xenonorph? Were the 'cobra/squid' things intentional? I dont have a clue.

The Engineers had to be aware of Xenomorphs because of their mural. But it came off as so random that it kinda took me out of the film.

Now I didn't think the movie was terrible. In its own right, it's a beautifully made film plagued with script issues. I like vagueness if it works but here, there are simply too many blanks so the plotting came off as incoherent.

And for the third time, the squid things weren't intentional, they weren't even squids. They were just the worms in the room that got infected once the tubes started leaking. You people need to pay more attention.

This film left me cold. Very disappointed.

*Sigh* Oh well. At least there's Elysium and Gravity to look forward to .

You're too literal with the squid thing. And I would give the movie a solid B so I did like it.

I'm a very initiative guy. I like movies of all types including Davif Lynch who is the king of WTF.

Here, we know as much as the human characters. Shaw's arc was complete at the end so it wasn't a total miss. But I think there's a difference between "The Cat ____ up the tree" and "The___ up___ the____".

And we end up filling up the blanks which is fine if the story demands it and is told well. Here, it needed a polish here and there.

But I don't see as many blanks. And honestly with many Lynch films or so forth, people have been analyzing them on the internet for years, when a lot of his films first came out, there was a lot of blanks, like the later example you made.

I do agree there were some script problems, but to me they were with some of the pacing of the ending, and the secondary characters, they should have tightened them up, and the scenario of Milburn and Fifield was not the best I will agree with that.

I have to see it many times more until I can start filling out more of the blanks, and that is the same with many older films that people pondered over for much longer then a week.

This film really needs to make a profit, or there won't be a sequel to answer the remaining questions.

Regardless of the blanks, I just think the script needed another polish. If they keep Engineer thing mysterious that's fine but at least make the humans more interesting. I like some of them, But I only really liked Elba, Theron and Fassbender. Rapace was too underwritten despite her good performance.

I don't know if I really want a sequel as some have said, I think some of it is suppose to be mysterious and stay that way.

I want him to do his Blade Runner sequel first. The man is getting old so I'm sure he won't be able to make a lot more film.

I can see aspects of that, like I said some of it had rough bumps, I actually thought Rapace's character was written fine, Holloway had some great moments then some meh moments. But Daivd sure stole the show. Fass gets it done.
