@ TheOnlyOmega

That's exactly what we're talking about. If you read the theory Infinity posted, it's mainly centered around Jesus's role. But that's not even in the film, no matter what throw away line they hinted at with the head's carbon dating.

I also thought that was far fetched. I understand Janek coming close to the conclusion, but he pretty much hits everything spot-on lol.
But nothing in the movie has told us that what he's saying is absolutely true, which is why it shouldn't be so farfetched.

Ah. I just never click reddit links. Would have caught it if it was any other site.

Since you're blessed with the superior intellect and can decipher this film's text, answer me:

Why does the black substance affect humans differently? If it is indeed the same substance as the beginning, why doesn't it affect humans in a similar manner to that of the Engineers, since both have the same DNA?
After seeing the movie twice now, what the Engineer ingested in the beginning of the movie visually looks very different from what we see later in the movie.

I can only guess that the substance in the beginning is meant as a molecular "re-separator" that destroys the body and uses surviving DNA to rapidly combine with its surroundings to re-create the DNA strand over again. The DNA strand it creates is human it seems.

The substance later on seems to have a very specific and much more aggressive ability. The substance we see later seems to create a DNA strand that is xeno-based and may or may not require an Engineer to ingest it (you could dump it in a pool of water and it would eventually form a xenomorph that can swim and breathe in water). As I mentioned, when ingested, in small doses, as in the beginning, it still starts to break down the cells in the body at a quick rate, but it's also CHANGING that host DNA into something---a xeno perhaps. It changed Holloway's sperm cells obviously and adapted itself into a fetus as a means of a secondary life cycle, apparently for the xeno. However, with the larvae/worm and Farfield, this substance, upon organic tissue exposure, seems to quickly evolve, mutate, and turn the exposed into an instinctual and advanced physical being possessing strengths and skills allowing it to better adapt to its surroundings.

Why it does this, we still don't know for certain. We only know how it works to an extent.

I liked this movie but the script was definitely flawed with the same problems as Lost - ambitious ideas, flaky execution, resorting to religious allegory to explain plot points, etc.

Ridley Scott needs to work with better screenwriters.

I was just about to suggest Dan O'Bannon but I've just found out he's dead. Pity.

It took me a 2nd viewing to realize this, but the score was totally out of place. Didn't fit the movie at all. I think the movie would be a lot better with a more foreboding, atmospheric score.
Oh, well that's a stretch.

The movie isn't supposed to be a horror film. It isn't supposed to be an action film. It's supposed to be exploratory and suspenseful sure, but that's not the driving element of the film. It's meant to be more uplifting and wondrous.

Think of the main theme for Jurassic Park...

Seriously...

Not the same ship? My God, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that. I guess all those comments over the years from Scott and set ups in the film were for nothing then.

EXACTLY.
Why bother with all the setups if it's not even supposed to be the same ship???

And I'm also with you on the 426 thing. They could've easily renamed the planet when it eventually became near-inhospitable as it appears in Alien and Aliens. Also, the 426 didn't even show up until Aliens IIRC, so who knows?

Gentlemen, you do realize there are possibly two other sequels coming, right? Ridley is no idiot. I'm certain (as the creator) he's aware that the ship and planet featured in Alien and Aliens did not match the planet and ship in Prometheus.

I believe it was the yellow sac you see for a second.

It doesn't take very much variation in DNA to create different organisms. You'd be surprised to see how similar our DNA is to wildly different life. That being said, it could be argued that the differences in our DNA would be mathematically insignificant, but biologically different enough to create the different species.
To be fair, if you did a beginning-to-end genome comparison, our DNA wouldn't match up very well with other organisms, because we've picked up a lot of extra stuff along the way that's cut out when the genes are translated into proteins.

But we DO have tons of genes in common or almost the same as other animals, which is why we can use chimps, mice, or even zebrafish to study human biological processes.

I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm not sure how they worded it exactly, but considering how Neil DeGrasse Tyson tweeted how Vickers got the light years vs. distance completely wrong, I don't think we could use the script as a gauge for scientific accuracy and/or canon. :funny:

Yeah I'm of the opinion that it was not a queen whatsoever. I don't know why people think it is.

We want it all to connect. If the sequels come they should connect in some way.

I walked out of the theater talking about this movie with a friend and at first I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. After thinking about it for awhile and sleeping on it, I think it might be one of my favorite movies of the year.

I think overall Prometheus is a good movie that will polarize people. That being said, it's total hyperbole that some fans are thinking that this is the second coming of Phantom Memance. No, it's not. At least this was beautifully made.

I don't completely agree with this, but I get what you are saying. There was a bit that didn't seem to fit right. The part when the Jockey Ship was coming out of the ground was ****ing great though.

I liked the movie, but I was disappointed that it didn't feel as "epic" or "terrifying" as the trailers implied (the music used in them certainly helped). I was also disappointed that the 2nd trailer pretty much gave away the whole movie and there wasn't much left to surprise me. I didn't expect to be sitting there at the end going "hmm", but more like "wow".

Maybe I'll appreciate it more on a second viewing now that I know what to really expect.

This is movie is more sci-fi than horror and I'm perfectly fine with that.
