Why simply come up with the idea that this is an alternative universe? It's not, it's a movie that takes place in the same universe and that tries to aproach different things.

The movie wanted to explain what the space jockey actually was, it was explained.

That entire galaxy was probably a military instalation for the space jockeys, so when the project started to go wrong they left it, more must have gone wrong too.

Here's my guess.

In the planet that appeared in Alien they probably developed the Xenomorphs as we know them from the alien films, while other planets like the one in Prometheus were working with the same DNA, that's why they got similar but different results.

So it's probable that they also had problems in the planet from Alien, and why that planet became infested with Xenomorphs, i also believe that after these problems the engineers abandoned that galaxy, but left their military experiments behind as it was too risky to take them.

Does Ridley have to show everything? Do humans have to allways be there when something happens? Hell no!

Imagine now, somebody that didn't see any Alien film, watches Prometheus first and then sees Alien, considering the planet they guess that it's a different planet that also has a Space Jockey military instalation.

Marvolo is right, the Prometheus movies are supposed to be about the space jockeys, it has some pleasant references to the Alien franchise but that's it, Ridley said himself that his main inspiration to go back to the franchise was to explore the space jockeys.

I also like the timing in which the movie takes place, 30-40 years before Alien, which makes such things as Weyland to merge with Yutani, and the companny to be interested in exploring that sector realistically.

 I think you hit the nail on the head with this one, it makes more sense than all the other theories.

And it was explained that there was more than one ship on that planet, and she started flying to a different planet at the end in one of the ships.

Never say never, Kingdom of Heaven went from forgettable to near masterpiece for some.

Too be fair, Kingdom of Heaven already had great performances and a solid structure. The extended cut expanded on the characters, displayed the characters motivates far better, gave clarity to storylines giving them far more weight, completely fixed the pacing issues and gave closure where there was none.

Do we really believe there is a Sibylla like story arc that was just cut?

Nope not something to that extent.

I still wonder why Ridley even agreed to release the theatrical cut. It leaves far too many things completely ambiguous, just drops storylines and completely changes some of the key characters.

Wasn't it revealed that Scott would have complete final cut if it was PG13 but if it was R it had to have restrictions. Unless, I'm thinking about the budget aspect.

He agreed to a smaller budget but only if he had control and final say.

I loved Kingdom of Heaven and I've yet to see the directors cut.

You own it to yourself to watch the real film then. For one, it completely changes Eva Green's characters Sibylla and puts the opening of the film into much more moving context.

I think Prometheus was rumored to have a 130 million budget not including the marketing money.

It looks like the movie may have already made back its production budget.

I've never seen the directors cut of Kingdom Of Heaven either. I think they showed the directors cut on film4 a number of times in the UK and Ireland.

The movie did earn $50 million this weekend but big declines could be coming. However, it should make plenty WW to justify a sequel.

You have to more then double your money production budget and marketing to make your money back. This film probably needs to do something like 300+ million WW before it can start talking about breaking even.

On wikipedia it says it had a budget of 120-130 million $, and made a budget of 141.5 million dollars, seems to have already made back its budget, i hope it can get the double of it as it's probably the only way they can make a sequel $120–130 million

Just 2 days ago it made like half its budget so it's going well.

BRO you have to watch the film as soon as possible.

i posted this a few pages before about the significance of the Directors Cut

An extended director's cut of the movie was released on December 23, 2005, at the Laemmle Fairfax Theatre in Los Angeles, unsupported by advertising from 20th Century Fox. This version has been widely praised; at approximately 45 minutes longer than the original theatrical cut, it is purportedly the version Ridley Scott originally wanted released to theaters. The DVD of the extended Director's Cut was released on May 23, 2006. It comprises a four-disc box set with a runtime of 194 minutes, and is shown as a road show presentation with an overture, intermission and entr'acte; the Blu-ray Disc release omits the roadshow elements, running for 189 minutes. Scott gave an interview to STV on the occasion of the extended edition's UK release, when he discussed the motives and thinking behind the new version.[36]

After the pitching of this film, studio marketing executives took it to be an action-adventure hybrid rather than what Ridley Scott and William Monahan intended it to be: a historical epic examining religious conflict. 20th Century Fox promoted the film as an action movie with heavy elements of romance and, in their advertising campaign, made much of the "From the Director of Gladiator" slogan. When Scott presented the 194-minute version of the film to the studio, they balked at the length. Studio head Tom Rothman ordered the film to be trimmed down to only two hours, as he did not believe that a modern audience would go to see a three-hour-and-fifteen-minute movie. Ultimately, Rothman's decision backfired, as the film gained mixed reviews (with many commenting that the film seemed "incomplete") and severely under-performed at the US box office.

The Director's Cut (DC) has received a distinctly more positive reception from film critics than the theatrical release, with some reviewers suggesting that it is the most substantial Director's Cut of all time[37] and a title to equal any of Scott's other works.,[38] offering a much greater insight into the motivations of individual characters. Scott and his crew have all stated that they consider the Director's Cut to be the true version of the film and the theatrical cut more of an action movie trailer for the real film[citation needed]. Alexander Siddig, the Sudanese-born actor who played Imad ad-Din al-Isfahani, in particular agitated for the release of an extended cut[citation needed].

AND ALL THOSE FANS OF RIDLEY & KOH must watch this trailer that was never released!!!

If you all haven't noticed I fall in the category of the theatrical version being borderline garbage and Director's Cut being a masterpiece.

No one got to saw David Thewlis's character, Guy vs Balian, and Edward Norton's character as the king with 15 more minutes. Unreal how much this film was gutted.

Yeah I know but it hasn't opened everywhere yet and it seems to be doing pretty well so far so I figure it should be able to turn a profit.

Prometheus is definetley divisive. Its not going to appeal to everyone but it looks like it may generate enough positive reactions to get a sequel if it makes money.

This movie is almost certainly going to profit. This is the kind of movie that blows up when it hits BluRay/DVD.

In time, I'm waiting when they release it on blu ray with all the extras like on the dvd.

I hope so, i feared that this film wouldn't make enough profit as many people today expect to go to a scy-fy film and see a lot of action.

That's interesting, I was following the blu-ray.com's review and they mentioned there was no extras on that disc.

I guess I'll buy it soon then.

I hope they one day realease a box set with the alien films, and possibly the Prometheus ones too in an Alien head like they did with the Alien Quadrilogy some years ago
