I was reading some of the posts in the thread to see if buying the blu ray was worth the money, but I think I'll pass.

Personally, I found the movie to be...meh.

I notice people seem to get plot holes and not explaining something mixed up. Those are two different things. Complain about the plot holes for all I care, and there are some, but why ***** about something so intriguing like the xenomorph mosaic that predates the one at the end of this film? Ass the green crystal tomb and it's just so much more fun to think about and it really adds to this whole mythology.

Hell, the fact we can look back on the Alien films and think that somewhere out there, there's a whole different mythology that is in that universe that they don't even know about. It's just so ****ing cool.

Agreed, I am glad they didnt de-mystify the aliens too much as it would have made the Alien films less enjoyable.

Because of what they did, I think they will be more enjoyable, as we now know there is more in that universe and another story to be told.

Even if Prometheus flopped there would of been another Alien movie sooner or later. Fox isn't going to let a successful franchise like Alien just end.

Fox was very smart in wanting to tone down the Alien tropes and having Ridley Scott come back and explore the space jockey story.

It has expanded the mythology and given them far more options for future movies in the franchise.

Rented this last night. Eh much worse when I saw it in theaters. The visuals are still nice but I don't have the ginormous screen to marvel in them and take my attention away from the dumb story and even dumber characters

I found it better ( except the novelty of it ) when I saw it on bluray, the story was much clearer and I could pay more attention to details ( visual ).

For anyone who has bought the blu ray, do you feel the 35 minutes of deleted footage add to the story? Again, I just watched this recently, but I've been waffling on buying the blu ray because I just don't feel it's a movie I'll watch more than once. Yet, the deleted scenes seem pretty intriguing as adding to the story overall.

I watched it last night. What a clusterf#***! Dear lord how did he screw that up so badly? The characters were dumb, nonsensical, and one dimensional. The plot was so insanely over stuffed with random elements and they explained absolutely nothing! This film was just a random series of weird things happening to a group of uninteresting people. Holy crap! What a disaster!

The visuals were nice and all; and I enjoyed the nods to Alien and Blade Runner but just what a mess. How many plot holes and random unexplained events (squid baby that grows 15 feet in an hour and then somehow immediately turns into a full grown Alien...that's not even quite an Alien?) were there? Uggghhhh...3/10

Would have helped if you had payed attention. The squid didnt grow into the alien, it impregnated the Engineer and the Alien burst out of that. It didnt look full size either, the Aliens are 8 feet tall, Similar size to the engineers, yet The Deacon (as Ridley calls it) was half that size.

Some of the deleted scenes are good.

The characters are more expanded in the deleted alternative scenes which is why I think some of those scenes should of stayed in the movie.

You can hear Shaw talk about her background and her beliefs, Captain Janek talks about a military mission he was on which expands his characters viewpoints a bit more, Vickers has an expanded scene with her father Weyland that is more fleshed out than the theatrical cut, the expanded Weyland talk with the engineer also gives you a better understanding of his character.

Well, I am an Alien fan so I appreciated the deleted/altered scene but I am not objective on the subject. There is also the Weyland files on the BRay which are nice too ( Shaw video message to Weyland, David commercials, some info about LV426 and Yutani etc ).
I could not advice you to search for the bonus on some torrent site.

Did you watch this freaking movie? It was an absolute mess. Seriously, 100% objectivity here. That film was a MESS. And this is coming from someone who really WANTED it to work. A film that's a bridge from Blade Runner to Alien is a really cool idea to me.

Are there really people here that think it was a well told story with interesting and intelligent characters? Anyone? Is that possible? Seriously, someone who actually believes this please respond and try to defend the characters or the plot. I won't even attack you. I just want to see someone who actually believes that there were characters worth giving a damn about; or a plot that was actually explained and/or made a lick of sense

I mean Scott and company just didn't even try here. The more I think about this film the more I violently hate it. At first I thought it was just weak, then bad, then terrible, and now I realize it was truly a complete failure. It's pathetic really.

Here's my one sentence summary of the film:

"A series of random, unexplained, and nonsensical bad 'sci-fi' things happen to a group of uninteresting total morons."

The other guy is right, I was on about your comment about the squid thing turning into an Alien, which simply DIDNT happen in the movie. If you werent paying attention during that part, you obviously were during other parts, which I suggest is why you didnt enjoy the movie.
