Prometheus - Part 9

A partially translated Engineers weapons manual was found and is believed to be part of a viral campaign. After the events in the movie Weyland Corp recovered said manual and translated it. The black goo in the film was a weapon for eradicating sentient life on a planet the engineers were planning to terraform. It takes the goo 5-6 months to wipe out all sentient life on a planet. The engineers who deliver this goo are like dark angels and referred to as such by Ridley himself. After all sentient life has been destroyed other engineers, not the dark angels, go to the planet and terraform it. Then they ritualistically seed life on the planet as was seen at the beginning of prometheus.

Interesting stuff. This leads to the possibility that they have eradicated sentient life on earth more than once.

Im unable to upload a picture of the manual atm but i will do so as soon as i get to my desktop.

Whoa. :wow:

It makes the Engineers seem more like caretakers of the galaxy. They cleanse the soil, prepare it, lay the seed, and then after a certain time they wipe away the old crop and begin anew. Just like a garden.

I got this movie but havent had time to watch it yet.Prob will try this weekend.

Is this it?

Yep. That is it.

If this is legit, then this graphic is intriguing as hell.

The graphic is suggesting that there are contrasting effects if you digest, inhale or even proceed in sexual intercourse with the Black Goo. I wonder though, who inhaled the goo? And if The Engineers have seeded and exterminated life on Earth on more than one occasion, then does suggest that we, humans, are the ultimate bio-weapon?

I'm not sure we are the ultimate bio weapon. We destroy the environment and ourselves, but at a much slower pace than their chemical goo. We are more of a runaway weed overtaking a garden due to lack of care and proper pruning.

The argument could be made that we are the Xenomorphs (the plague).

We are capable of exterminating life across the universe if given the opportunity. Granted, we don't possess acid for blood but we've created weapons of mass destruction, and are capable of adapting/evolving. Think about it. We humans obtained strains of The Engineers' DNA. So it's not far-fetched to believe that The Engineers were a bit threaten by us [the future versions of ourselves].

Haha yeah I like to think of what must have been going through that engineers mind when he awoke. Lots of comedic possibilities.:woot:

Just put it together. Milburn and Fifield inhaled the vapor when they were lost in the tunnels during the storm! The whole complex was exposed to the goo so the vapor must have been all over the place. And they were exposed to it longer than anyone else. That is why they couldn't find their way out and why Milburn approached the creature! Their judgment was impaired. The engineer manual says it can cause confusion and slight dimentia when inhaled. That is also why it mutated Fifield instead of disintegrating him like Holloway. Hollaway ingested it which causes cellular degeneration. Fifield nhalated it which causes DNA recoding. So even if the creature hadn't attaked Fifield and Milburn they would have still mutated. Its all coming together now!

Holy crap, just the introduction of this black goo explanation makes the movie even better for me. The characters' nonsensical actions throughout the majority of the film actually make sense.

If this had been incorporated into the final film, my initial impression of the film would have been much better.

Don't get me wrong, after much thinking and reading some interesting explanations that help make some of the stuff in the film make sense, I enjoy it a lot more. I only wish that my initial reaction had been as positive as my current one.

Im of two minds. On the one hand, had they included this it would have probably reduced the backlash and the film would have been accepted more. But on the other hand by spoonfeeding answers to the audience it would have stripped the film of this mystery. It sucks because only us internet people who are willing to search this stuff out will find this stuff and understand the film. Now because of this there is a group of people who wont give the film another chance or look for these answers. I guess they are a lost cause and shouldnt be my concern tho. If they dont want t look for answers it may not have been the film for them anyways. We are getting another film and prometheus was a success so we win, and i appreciate scott not including the answers. Ive had a lot of fun speculating about all this and finding answers and in light of this prometheus may be my favorite film of the year. I was iffy about it but once i watched it again on bluray and found this all out i really love this film. Its the kind of scifi that makes you think and ask questions and that imo is the best scifi. Call me crazy but i see this film gaining popularity over time and gaining a cult following.

That's a great theory and all, but there's not enough data to support that Fifield's and Milburn's logic and reasoning were impaired during these events. Fifield and Milburn weren't expose to goo as they were making their way out of the Juggernaut/Structure. It wasn't until both of them returned to the giant sculpture that they were exposed to anything.

Everyone would have been exposed to the vapors of the goo just by entering the complex and taking off their helmets. There was an outbreak that killed the engineers and contaminated the entire base the vapors could have been all throughout the complex. The reason why Fifield and Milburn had impaired judgment and no one else shpwed signs is because Fifield and Milburn spent more time than anyone else with their helmets off inside the complex.

Something else i was thinking about. The headless engineer when they put electricity into him began to degenerate but we know that the only way for that to happen was if he ingested it. So i wonder why he would have ingested it? Why would any of the engineers have ingested it? Inhaling it in the event of an outbreak makes sense. Ingesting it not so much. And then there is the burst chest some of the engineers had. It makes me wonder if the containment breach in the base was a result of a xenomorph getting loose.

This just feels like to big a concept to not better hint at in the film. This makes some interesting concepts that will only expand what is a huge sci-fi universe. I'll need to rewatch it soon with this new concept in mind.

Mark Kermode Uncut: Prometheus Revisited

After watching the movie again I couldnt help but now think that the Xenomorphs are morphed versions of The Engineers themselves, they are about the same height and size, the Xeno's have the same body as the suit (or whatever it was, it actually looked part of his body) that the Engineer had on at the end of Prometheus.

Plus, in the Alien movies, the Xeno's always start warping their environment to look very similar to the inside of the installation and ship in Prometheus, why would the Aliens do this in any environment they take over if it was ingrained in them from memory?

I also noticed that The Engineer's blood at the end of Prometheus looked very similar to the black goo from the jars in the tomb, is the black goo just the engineers blood thats been tampered with and experimented on?

So many possibilities with this movie and its sequels.

Looks like Ridley Scott wasn't joking when he said he really enjoyed working on a Science Fiction genre movie again.

Slashfilm is reporting that Scott signed a deal with Focus Features International, linking Scott Free London to a large slate of genre movies. Ridley will oversee six low budget genre movies ranging from horror and thrillers to science fiction. Each film will shoot in Northern Ireland
