Again, someone says this is a prequel.
Another person says it's not a prequel.
Another person says it's in the same universe.
Another person says it's a stand-alone movie.
Someone once said this is a sequel to Harry and the Hendersons.
Another person said this movie is made with organic bananas.

What the hell is this movie.

It is a stand alone non-prequel or noquel set in the same universe. Easy.

It's a movie you must watch, end of story. :argh:

How can I want to watch it when I don't even know what it is? And don't mention The Inception Effect - that was not a part of any franchise or series, and the trailers pretty much showed us what we were getting.

I'm putting five bucks on this movie completely tanking at the box office. Audiences will be confused as hell, they won't understand what it's supposed to be (or if it's even supposed to be anything), and everyone involved will learn an important lesson.

This movie is riding on the trailer. If people respond with head scratching and a unanimous "Huh?", it's in the ground. The marketing needs to be clear as day. It's either an Alien movie, or it's NOT. Show us a goddamn xenomorph, too.

The plot is clear as day, you should read the last few pages.
A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

If that doesn't interest you then it's not your movie regardless on whether or not it connects to another franchise because the general audience does not care. Only thing they will care about is if it look and sounds good.

It's a movie set in the same universe as the Alien films, but it a) takes place before the events of Ridley Scott's movie and b) is not about the aliens from that film. Rumor has it we will see that alien (or "xenomorph") near the end of the film, but it is more of a subplot to a larger narrative unrelated to that film.

I think that there might actually be people out there who watch Prometheus and say, “This is an Alien prequel” but it’s a prequel in sort of a different sense than I’m used to. Isn’t it more interesting to think of a movie that takes place in the Alien universe, there are some familiar things that you will see along the way but if there were a sequel to Prometheus, it would not be Alien. That to me had to be the goal. God willing, if Prometheus is successful, and there is a sequel, it won’t be Alien because the end of this movie, if this movie is A to Z, Z is not there’s a bunch of eggs laying on the floor of LV-426. Z in this movie is entirely different although people will watch this movie and say, “I feel like I have a different contextual framework now for the original Alien, I’m going to watch it again. I feel like I know a little bit more than I knew before.”

So basically, it has nothing to do with Alien.
the space jockey will be inside the movie. the last 8 minutes will be connected to the alien movie. confirmed by Ridley Scott. visually it looks like the 70's Ridley Scott movie.it looks retro(very happy about this)

its happening in the same universe and its happenig before. of course Prometheis will not end when Alien starts. that would be stupid from Fox. the movie will be set so that they can make sequels

its a prequel to the Alien 1979.

But they keep going back and forth between part of Alien Universe and original Sci fi film.
They need to get stories straight.

It can be called a prequel without directly leading to begining of Alien.

Having ridley scott direct a prequel to Alien Is different than him direct original film.
People might even come to want to view films In Future as Prometheus,Alien, and Aliens.

I find It strange Fox doesn't want to play up connection to Alien.

It's an original sci fi film set in the same fictional universe as the Alien movies. Simples.

i dont think its fair to writte that its an original scifi movie. since its set in the Alien universe and since Scott confirmed a Blade Runner sequel. it would love Scott to direct an original scifi movie. but this is not one of them.

i do agree that it looks like the story from Prometheus is not connected to ALien 1979.

Well it can still be an original story with original ideas/characters etc. It may be set in the same universe as Alien, but it seems like it will stand on it's own two feet, so to speak.

I think if they marketed it that way, people are going to be royally ticked if they go under that premise don't get a Alien film. This is smarter. You have a better shot at satisfying everyone. Fans know, and that's enough.

I know next year is Spidey, Batman, and freaking Avengers, but THIS may be my most anticipated film!

Heh. I'm looking forward to this, and Dark Shadows, more than any of the comic book movies....except The Dark Knight Rises of course. That's going to be like fanboy crack. ;) :oldrazz:

But yeah, this is definitely up there for me.

You can say that the Xenomorphs do exist in the Prometheus universe it's just that they don't play a big part in this movie.

Again, huh?

It's the same universe as the alien movies

Prometheus will just be it's own story but still sprinkle some recongnizable "Alien" events and stuff to tie it in.

Its like how some want to believe blade runner and the alien series share the same universe

It's all Ridley scott created stuff so it might as well be.

Ok to make a long story shorter I work for about 100 or so of the good paid survey sites(the ones that aren't scams and pay through paypal and such) as a part of many online jobs that provide my income.
I hide my IP so I can take surveys multiple times to increase my profits. Now, I've seen a certain survey a few times that asks me to rate my anticipation for upcoming movies. It gives a brief description of the movie, explaining what it is, before I'm asked for a response. I took the liberty of copying the synopsis, and the ones for a lot of the movies I'm really looking forward to. I'll post one from another movie to show the level of detail they give me.

Warning: spoilers ahead (too lazy to figure out how to work spoiler tags this late at night). It's things we already know and some stuff that many have speculated. But it just may confirm Prometheus as being connected through at least the company, as well as existing in that universe. What gets me is they give the year 2058 which lines up with some of the supposed leaked descriptions.

Here it is as I got it, different from the official synopsis:

"Prometheus
Occupying the same universe as the groundbreaking 1979 film “Alien”, this is an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe.

Earth. Year 2058.

Archaeological digs in Africa reveal alien artifacts that show humans were actually genetically engineered by an advanced alien race. Amongst the finds are coordinates to the Alien God's home-world, to Paradise. Within months, the Weyland Corporation launches the spaceship Prometheus and its crew of human and android scientists into deep space to make first contact. Thanks to faster than light travel, the Prometheus enters the Zeta Riticuli star system to meet humanity’s alien makers in a thrilling journey that will test the crew’s physical and mental limits. While there, they will discover the answers to our most profound questions about our world and the nature of our existence… before an unfortunate act of treachery that will ultimately lead to a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race."

Not too much we didn't know but it confirms some things. Outright says "android scientists" and takes us back to that same star system(As some supposed leaks have indicated). It appears we're getting the company name from Aliens, more or less, and that it is indeed before the merger with Yutani.

Here's MIB 3. I might post it in that thread, but notice the level of detail and how they gave me everyone's name and the part about a certain celebrity playing an important part in the mission. I don't think anyone has this exact synopsis, and although brief they seem to give away just a little more about this movie too. The Dark Knight Rises one is even better. It doesn't mention Tate but mentions someone else by name. I'm sad to say the Avengers one reveals nothing at all, but I copied it since it's different from the official. Here's MIB3.

''MEN IN BLACK III

In this latest 3D installment of the hugely popular sci-fi comedy adventure series, a dangerous escaped alien convict, Yaz, travels back in time to 1969 in order to kill Agent K, an action that will set off a chain of events that ends in the destruction of the Earth. When the younger Agent J discovers this plot, he goes directly to his nearest Apple Store- which are all revealed to be secret time travel hubs- to follow Yaz back in time and stop him. Once there he must brave life in the 1960's, in order to track down the 26 year-old version of Agent K before Yaz does, and protect the future of the entire planet. Several celebrities of the era including Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, Castro, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Andy Warhol are revealed to be secretly aliens, with Warhol actually aiding Agents K and J in their latest mission."

I need more info about this movie before I can get really excited about it. Right now all I know is that it is set in the Alien universe, but it's not a prequel of Alien, but it is directed by Ridley Scott (who directed Alien).

humans on a big spaceship fly into space. they find a big planet or another big space ship. there they will steal something. or they will be attacked by an alien race that maybe create humans.

My guess of the plot from everything we have heard so far is the space crew Noomi, Elba, Charlize, ect find either Space Jockey planet or Space ship. The Space Jockies are basically God scienists who engineered varoius species through out the universe (the human race and xenomorphs inclueded).

The human space crew take something they shouldn't (perhaps a Xenomorph egg?) and thus are killed or punished by aliens one by one. The movie ends with the space jockey ship crashing on the planet from Alien/Aliens setting up the rest of the franchise.
