Quesada killed Marvel.

If you do like the character, I can't imagine that you're enjoying the current storyline, so it would be a non-issue.

By the way, I know you guys already did the 2007 Hype awards, but can I nominate this thread for "Thread most titled like a Drama Queen" for 2008?

Let me put it this way. I wanted it done. For a long, long time. I don't think they came up with the best way of doing it, but my reasons are different than other people (my main objection is that I would prefer a solution that could happen in the real world. One that you could explain to a non-fan and not have them rolling their eyes. Otherwise, it's just trickery), but in the end, I'm all right with it. I'm never averse to change (I hope that doesn't trigger a good change/ bad change speech from anyone), I'm not one of the ones who threw a hissy fit at the clone saga a decade ago, in fact, I thought it was clever. So was it a good story? No. Am I glad they did it? Absolutely.

You're glad Marvel does ****ty stories for the sake of change?

PJ, do you ever have actual discussions with people, or do you only look for clever ways to poke and insult them? Wake me up when you have a real question that you'd like a real answer to.

So you didn't enjoy OMD, but you like the premise? Am I right?

I know a lot of people read Spider-man but my point is it's one character. I won't chase my post around defending it to the death but Spider-man is one character. And either you can go back to your trades or issues and read them again and enjoy or you can't. Nothing about One More Day entails that Spider-Man will can no longer be enjoyable.

And in general I'm tired of hearing people acting like Quesada is this evil man when he has done some great things. Spider-Man's success has always and will always depend on one thing-- not Mary Jane (being married to him), not Harry, but good stories.

Doom-I don't think Joe is evil but he has screwed up a lot of history. And to say Spiderman is just one character speaks volumes because he touches every other character in Marvel. So you change 20 years of Spiderman's mythos then you change 20 years of Marvel History. There is no Clone Saga (which is a good thing) there is no rebirth of Spiderman, there is no Iron Spider and that just in the Spiderman arena. What about the New Avengers and Avengers, or prime example the "Iron" Scarlet Spiders in Initiative. I know there is more examples but this is just one character--This is the Marvel Universe. What else will be undone?

Because I don't.

Look, I know when someone's trying to box me in to some sort of logic Rubik's Cube. I didn't like the marriage. I think it limits storytelling. Most of what JQ was saying in those interviews, I've agreed with for a long time. So do I like how they got there, not completely, but I'm still happy with the result.

So you don't think the creator's are limiting themselves; it's the marriage itself that's limiting the creators?

That's one of my biggest questions. I mean, the public might not believe that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, But Tony Stark knows it. Does that mean Tony all of a sudden does not care that Peter is running around unregistered? How is his home not on lockdown with SHIELD agents? The only answer to that question is that somehow Mehpisto's MAGIC undid the unmasking. Does that mean then that there was no personal relationship with Tony Stark to begin with? If so, are the Scarlet Spiders still around? If they are, how does that work, exactly?

There are just too many goddamn questions to be answered.

Peter went to live somewhere else and changed his name to Ben Reilly. HOW that escaped Tony Stark is beyond most of us, given that Stark would be running names on all known family members (living and dead)and their living quarters, and be doing some door knocking. Granted there's probably tons of people named that. But it'd be mighty odd to have Ben Reilly deceased, but there's one who recently got an apartment so close to the event, when Pete had a family member named that.

As for the Scarlet Spider armor things? Yeah, I can see how the whole "It's magic, don't look behind the curtain" thing gets on people's nerves. It's not that it COULDN'T work with magic, it's just that it was hastily done and leaves tons of plot holes. A deal with the devil is one thing if it were limited, but it's vast and totally out of control. In many ways, it feels sort of like a Crisis for Marvel. A very badly done one.

So.... you hate the marriage, cause it limits storytelling?

And this thread is about hating Joey Q because it is easy and convenient to do so...

Wait... maybe you hate the marriage cause it is easy and convenient to blame that for writer's not being able to come up with not sucky stories and thus being very limited.

I never liked the marriage because MJ and Pete were ill-suited for each other.

I got the impression that Tony wasnt REAL concerned with arresting Peter, or any of the New Avengers for that matter.

I mean, Tony KNEW they were all hiding out at Strange's Sanctum...he could have razed it to the ground from high above in the helicarrier if he really wanted too....
